Holland & Sherry Graduate Stripe
Wool sateen, 3 colourways, 100% wool, 59 in wide. Holland & Sherry's own figures, and how we make it up as draperies in our Fort Lauderdale workroom, from the cloth your designer orders.
Wool sateen, 59 in wide, in 3 colourways
Graduate Stripe is one of the Holland & Sherry cloths we make up as draperies: a wool sateen in their Sporting collection (100% wool, 59 in wide, made in Chile). The range runs to 3 colourways: Natural Merit, Honors Green and Magna Blue. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods, and accessories".
At 59 in it is cut up the roll like a conventional drapery cloth: a wide panel is made of joined widths, with each seam hidden inside a pleat or a ripplefold wave. The stripe runs up the roll, by Holland & Sherry's sheet, so it stays vertical on a panel made of joined widths. The repeat is 29.5 in across, matched at every seam and across the windows of a room, so the yardage is worked out on the repeat rather than the finished size.
Wool is naturally flame resistant but not sun resistant: it fades and weakens in direct sun, so it is lined, and on unshaded south or west glass it wants a solar shade in front of it. It can stretch a little over time in humid air, and like silk it is a protein fibre that wants an air-conditioned room rather than a house closed up for the summer (what each fibre does). It weighs 17 oz per linear yard (550 g per linear metre) by Holland & Sherry's figures.
Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room, and lining every drapery, to block the light and protect the face.

What Graduate Stripe does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
Graduate Stripe is a tailored drapery cloth: pinch pleat, Euro pleat or ripplefold panels in a study, a bedroom or a living room, lined, on a decorative rod or a track.
Light and privacy
Closed, Graduate Stripe gives full privacy; how much light comes through is decided by the lining we sew behind it: light-filtering for living rooms, interlining for body and quiet, blackout for bedrooms (the lining guide).
Cloth and care
100% wool; 17 oz per linear yard (550 g per linear metre); Martindale 30,000 rubs.
Limitations
Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 59 in a wide panel is made of joined widths, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

What Holland & Sherry say about Graduate Stripe
End use, in their words
"Upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods, and accessories", from Holland & Sherry's spec sheet.
Their drapery note
Drapery should hang before it is hemmed, so it can adjust to the climate of the room; every drapery should be lined, to block light and protect the face.
Fabric direction
The stripe runs up the roll, by Holland & Sherry's sheet, so it stays vertical on a panel made of joined widths.
Flame tests
NFPA 701, the drapery flame test: not listed; upholstery tests on the sheet: BS 5852 Cigarette & Match Pass; Cal 117-2013 Pass.

How Graduate Stripe becomes draperies in your home
Your designer specifies
Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.
We measure and give the yardage
We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.
We make and install
The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.
Where Graduate Stripe works here
In South Florida a wool drapery belongs in an air-conditioned room with the glass shaded: a study, a dining room, a bedroom with a blackout lining, a media room where weight and quiet matter. At the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach we made two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards up as blackout drapery on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, to the designer's schedule; Graduate Stripe would be built the same way.
For the same use, compare Graduate Stripe with Ace (wool flannel, 59 in, 15 colourways), Blazer Stripe (wool flannel, 59 in, 5 colourways) and Fair Isle (lambswool Fair Isle, 57 in, 4 colourways).

Graduate Stripe: frequently asked
How many colours does Holland & Sherry Graduate Stripe come in?
3 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: Natural Merit, Honors Green and Magna Blue. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.
Can I buy Graduate Stripe from you?
No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.
Does Graduate Stripe need a lining?
Holland & Sherry say every drapery should be lined, to block the light and protect the face, and we agree. The lining is chosen for the room: a light-filtering sateen for a living room, an interlining for body and quiet, a blackout lining for a bedroom (lining guide).
Do you match the Graduate Stripe repeat?
Always. Holland & Sherry give the repeat as 29.5 in across; we match it at every seam and from window to window, so the yardage your designer orders is worked out on the repeat.
What does Graduate Stripe cost made up as draperies?
The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
