Holland & Sherry Heriot
Wool plaid, 6 colourways, 100% wool, 51 in wide. Holland & Sherry's own figures, and how we make it up as draperies in our Fort Lauderdale workroom, from the cloth your designer orders.
6 colourways of wool plaid, 51 in wide
Heriot is a wool plaid from Holland & Sherry, in their Highland Fling collection (100% wool, 51 in wide, made in France). It comes in 6 colourways, Marble, Bluebell, Golden Eagle, Nettle Green, Iron Ore and Thistle. Their spec sheet gives its end use as "Light upholstery, drapery, wall upholstery, soft goods and accessories".
The 51 in width runs up the roll, so panels are made of joined widths and the seams fall inside the pleats. Holland & Sherry give the repeat as 12.9 in across, 14.9 in down; we match it across every seam and from window to window, which adds yardage and is figured into the order.
Wool is naturally flame resistant but not sun resistant: it fades and weakens in direct sun, so it is lined, and on unshaded south or west glass it wants a solar shade in front of it. It can stretch a little over time in humid air, and like silk it is a protein fibre that wants an air-conditioned room rather than a house closed up for the summer (what each fibre does). It weighs 16 oz per linear yard (523 g per linear metre) by Holland & Sherry's figures.
Their drapery note advises hanging the drapery before it is hemmed, so the cloth settles to the room, and lining every drapery, to block the light and protect the face.

What Heriot does at the window, and what it does not
Best use
We would make Heriot up as tailored panels, pinch pleat or ripplefold, lined, for a bedroom, a study or a living room that wants the warmth of a suiting cloth.
Light and privacy
Closed, Heriot gives full privacy; how much light comes through is decided by the lining we sew behind it: light-filtering for living rooms, interlining for body and quiet, blackout for bedrooms (the lining guide).
Cloth and care
100% wool; 16 oz per linear yard (523 g per linear metre); Martindale 12,000 rubs.
Limitations
Not for unshaded south or west glass on its own: the sun fades natural fibres, so a shade goes in front of it there. At 51 in a wide panel is made of joined widths, and the repeat is matched at every seam, which costs yardage. No NFPA 701 result in Holland & Sherry's data, so a condo common area or a commercial job that asks for it needs the cloth flame treated with a certificate, if Holland & Sherry can supply it that way, or another cloth.

How Heriot becomes draperies in your home
Your designer specifies
Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so the cloth is chosen and ordered by your designer, with the colour code and the sample in hand. Not working with a designer? Tell us; we can suggest a cloth we order ourselves.
We measure and give the yardage
We measure the windows, settle the style, the fullness and the lining, and work out the yardage on the width and the repeat, so the order to Holland & Sherry is right the first time.
We make and install
The cloth comes to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, where our five in-house seamstresses cut and sew the draperies, and our own installers hang them on the rod, track or motorized system the window calls for.
Where Heriot works here
We have made Holland & Sherry wool up before: at the Ritz-Carlton Residences Miami Beach the designer's schedule called for two Holland & Sherry wool jacquards, made up as blackout drapery on Lutron Sivoia QS tracks, the reversible flannel hung with its lighter face outward as specified. Heriot would be made the same way: lined, for an air-conditioned room, with a shade in front of it on bright glass.
For the same use, compare Heriot with Fraser (wool straie, 55 in, 11 colourways), Musette (silk wool velvet, 55 in, 10 colourways) and Cuillin (wool jacquard, 50 in, 6 colourways).

Heriot: frequently asked
How many colours does Holland & Sherry Heriot come in?
6 colourways on Holland & Sherry's site when we read it on October 7, 2026: Marble, Bluebell, Golden Eagle, Nettle Green, Iron Ore and Thistle. Every one is listed on this page with its code; Holland & Sherry's photographs of each are on their own site, linked from the table.
Can I buy Heriot from you?
No. Holland & Sherry sell to the trade, so your designer orders the cloth from them. We make it up and install it: we measure and work out the yardage, the cloth is sent to our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our seamstresses cut and sew the draperies.
Does Heriot need a lining?
Holland & Sherry say every drapery should be lined, to block the light and protect the face, and we agree. The lining is chosen for the room: a light-filtering sateen for a living room, an interlining for body and quiet, a blackout lining for a bedroom (lining guide).
Do you match the Heriot repeat?
Always. Holland & Sherry give the repeat as 12.9 in across, 14.9 in down; we match it at every seam and from window to window, so the yardage your designer orders is worked out on the repeat.
What does Heriot cost made up as draperies?
The cloth is bought through your designer at Holland & Sherry's price, so our quote covers what we make and install: the fabrication, the lining, the track or rod and the installation, worked out from the measure. Ask for a workroom price with the button above and we come back with a figure, not a range.
