Lutron Sheer Shade Fabrics
46 colourways in 3 designs: polyester sheer rollers and the vanes of Lutron's horizontal sheer blinds.
Softness at the glass, motorized
Lutron offers sheers two ways. The first is a sheer roller fabric: a soft polyester weave rather than a fiberglass screen, with the drape and glow of a sheer drapery and the neatness of a roller. Ethos, new in 2026, is Lutron's dedicated SheerShade fabric in eight colours at 1%, 3% and 5% openness, PVC-free and Cradle to Cradle certified; Tre Sheer is the over-10% member of the Tre colour set. The second is the horizontal sheer blind, Lutron's Sivoia version of the vane-between-sheers treatment: Palazzo fabric in 2-inch and 3-inch vanes, light-filtering or room-darkening, that tilts for privacy and lifts clear for the view.
Sheer rollers are for rooms where a drapery stack has no space or a screen looks too technical; horizontal sheer blinds are for windows that must change from private to open several times a day. Both are motorized on Lutron and run in the same scenes as the rest of the house.
Choosing between the three
Ethos
A sheer that also controls sun: 1% and 3% weaves in Carbon, Espresso or Jet behave like a screen; 5% in White or Pearl is a bright, soft sheer. 116 inches wide, fire listed, with a matching Ethos Blackout.
Tre Sheer
The lightest member of the Tre set: an open polyester sheer in seven colours including Cornflower blue, made to pair with Tre Light Filtering and Tre Blackout on a dual roller.
Palazzo
Not a roller: fabric vanes between two sheer facings on a Sivoia horizontal sheer blind. Tilt for privacy, tilt for view, lift away entirely. 2-inch or 3-inch vanes, light-filtering or room-darkening, 114 inches wide.
Sheers in a South Florida window
On the water side of a condo we still put a solar screen at the glass and, when the client wants softness, a ripplefold sheer drapery on a Lutron track in front of it. The sheer roller is the alternative when there is no room for a drapery stack, or when the look should be architectural rather than dressed. On the street side of a house, the horizontal sheer blind is the treatment that gives privacy from passers-by while the room stays bright, and it is the one we recommend for Fort Lauderdale and Coral Gables neighbourhood windows.

Sheers on our Lutron installations
Our workroom makes sheer draperies as well, so the sheer question in a consultation is usually 'roller, blind or drapery?' rather than 'which fabric?'. We bring the linen and voile sheers we sew in Fort Lauderdale, order the Ethos, Tre or Palazzo samples you shortlist, and look at them against your glass.
Sheers: frequently asked
Is a sheer roller shade private?
Not at night, and only partly by day; it is a sheer. Its job is softness and glare reduction. For privacy pair it with a blackout or choose a light-filtering fabric instead.
What is a horizontal sheer blind?
Soft fabric vanes suspended between two layers of sheer, on a headrail that tilts the vanes and lifts the whole blind. Lutron's version runs on Sivoia and motorizes both the tilt and the lift; the fabric is Palazzo.
Can a sheer roller be combined with a blackout?
Yes, on a dual Lutron roller bracket: sheer in front, blackout behind. Ethos and Tre are both designed with a blackout partner in the same colour.
