Phifer Fabric Library

The fiberglass blackout that matches the 2500 screen colours

SheerWeave 7100 is the odd one out among Phifer's blackouts and the most useful for one particular job. It is 37% fiberglass and 63% vinyl on fiberglass, laminated with a two-ply 100% PVC blackout film, at 19.4 oz per square yard, the heaviest blackout in the library. Widths are 63 and 96 inches. Every colourway publishes Tv 0, solar reflectance of 71% and a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.23 behind single glazing. It is also the only blackout here whose data lists a Microban antimicrobial additive.

The six colours carry the same Phifer codes as the 2500 family: Oyster P12, Oyster/Beige P13, Oyster/Pearl Gray P14, Beige Q20, Beige/Pearl Gray Q21 and Charcoal V21. That is the reason to specify it. A room can run a 2500, 2410, 2390 or 2360 screen and a 7100 blackout in the identical colour, which no other combination in the Phifer range allows. Two fabrication notes come with it: Phifer says some cupping may occur and recommends side channels to avoid it, and does not recommend railroading the fabric.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

South Florida

Where SheerWeave 7100 Blackout works here

A bedroom that already has a fiberglass screen on the window and wants the blackout to match it exactly. In South Florida that is most oceanfront primary suites, where the screen went in first and the blackout follows on a dual roller. The Microban additive is a genuine advantage on a bathroom or a bedroom directly on the water; the 96-inch width and the cupping note mean we plan side channels into the quote from the start.

The only Phifer blackout woven on a fiberglass base and the only one that shares colour codes with the 2500 screen card.

Good to Know

SheerWeave 7100 Blackout: frequently asked

Why does Phifer recommend side channels?

Because of the construction. Phifer notes that some cupping may occur in Style 7100 and that side channels avoid it. In a bedroom that is what we would specify anyway, since channels are also what close the light gap at the edges of a blackout shade.

Is it PVC-free?

No, and it is the one blackout in this library that is not. Style 7100 is laminated with a two-ply 100% PVC blackout film. For a no-vinyl blackout in a similar role, see SheerWeave 7001 or the 7500 pair.

How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave 7100 Blackout shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 63" and 96" (160 cm and 243.8 cm) for SheerWeave 7100 Blackout, so a single shade can run to about 96 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades on one headrail programmed to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SheerWeave 7100 Blackout?

SheerWeave 7100 Blackout is made up as roller shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see SheerWeave 7100 Blackout samples before ordering?

Yes. We keep the Phifer sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
