A coloured back on the blackout, and the quietest light-filtering twin

SheerWeave 7700R is a 100% polyester blackout with an acrylic foamed backing, 13.6 oz per square yard and 0.028 inches thick, publishing Tv 0 across all seven colours. What makes it unusual in the 7000 series is that the back is coloured to match the face, so solar reflectance runs the full spread of the card: 70% in Crystal, 59% in Chalk, 44% in Graphite and Concrete, 22% in Pewter and just 6% in Onyx, with absorptance climbing to 94% at the dark end. Its solar heat gain coefficient behind single glazing therefore ranges from 0.24 to 0.58.

Style 7750R is the light-filtering twin, 100% polyester with an acrylic coating at 8.8 oz and 0.023 inches, and at NRC 0.55 it publishes the highest acoustic value of any light-filtering fabric in the Phifer library. Both are 118 inches wide and neither is recommended for railroading. Seven colours run across the pair with the same names: Crystal, Sand, Concrete, Chalk, Graphite, Pewter and Onyx. Fire listings are California Technical Bulletin 117 on the blackout, and Class A under NFPA 101 and IBC Section 803.1.1 on the light-filtering twin.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, in percent, as published by Phifer for the fabric on its own. SHGC single = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric behind single 1/4 in clear glass (1/8 in where that is what Phifer publishes), SHGC insul. = behind 1 in insulating glass with a high-performance coating (1/2 in clear where published). Exterior SunTex and SunScreen figures are for the fabric installed outside the glass at a 30 degree profile angle. We bring the sample books to the consultation.

Where SheerWeave 7700R/7750R works here

The coloured back matters in a condo tower. Where an association will not accept a white shade line across a dark glass facade, Onyx or Graphite gives a dark exterior face on a blackout, which is rare. The trade is heat: at 94% absorptance Onyx takes almost everything the sun gives it into the fabric, so on hard west glass we would put an exterior screen in front of it rather than ask the blackout to do that job.

Good to Know

SheerWeave 7700R/7750R: frequently asked

Why does solar reflectance vary so much across one card?

Because the back of the fabric is coloured rather than white. Crystal reflects 70% of the solar energy that reaches it and Onyx reflects 6%, absorbing 94%. On a blackout that mostly changes how hot the fabric itself gets and how the building reads from outside, not how dark the room is: every colour publishes Tv 0.

Which fabric here is best for a media room?

Onyx or Graphite in the 7700R blackout, in side channels, with the 7750R twin in the same colour if the room also gets daytime use. The 7750R publishes NRC 0.55, the highest of any Phifer light-filtering fabric, which is a real consideration in a room built for sound.

How wide can a Phifer SheerWeave 7700R/7750R shade be?

Phifer publishes standard roll widths of 118" (300 cm) for SheerWeave 7700R/7750R, so a single shade can run to about 118 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in SheerWeave 7700R/7750R?

SheerWeave 7700R/7750R is made up as roller shades and panel tracks. We source it directly from Phifer, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Is SheerWeave 7700R/7750R PVC-free?

Phifer's published composition for SheerWeave 7700R/7750R is 100% Polyester with Acrylic Foamed Backing; 100% Polyester with Acrylic Coating: no vinyl and no PVC in the yarn or the coating, with GREENGUARD Gold, RoHS, REACH, ANSI/WCMA A100.1 lead content listed.
