Crestron shade and drapery controllers: the interfaces that bring other motors into Crestron
Crestron shade and drapery controllers: every current model, Crestron's specifications and documents, and what the shade costs in Crestron's own budget guide.
What are the Crestron shade and drapery controllers?
Two Crestron interfaces put shades that are not Digital QMT motors on the Crestron system: the C2N-SDC shade and drape controller drives two conventional three-wire 120 V AC motors from Cresnet, and the CI-SOMFY-RTS RS485 transmitter controls up to 16 groups of Somfy RTS motors and receivers from a Crestron processor.
The C2N-SDC is a two-channel Cresnet controller with two independent 120 V AC outputs, each rated 7.5 A and 1/3 HP (15 A total), giving up and down or open and close to a bidirectional motor, with built-in timing and interlock logic and manual buttons on the front for installation; it mounts in a 4 inch square or 2-gang electrical box, 1.5 inches deep. Crestron lists it for motorized window treatments, doors, sunroofs, lifts and projection screens. The C2N-SDC-DC is the version for DC motors. The CI-SOMFY-RTS is the bridge we use most: a house with Somfy RTS shades, or a building where Somfy motors were the right choice, joins the Crestron scenes through one transmitter. Crestron publishes no further specification table for the CI-SOMFY-RTS on its site.

Where the shade controllers fit
At Salato in Pompano Beach every unit runs Somfy Sonesse ULTRA 50 RTS motors on a power panel, and each unit's Somfy TaHoma switch ties the shades into the Crestron system with every room mapped to Google Home, a path that suits a new building with 120 V conduit and no low-voltage plan. A dedicated CI-SOMFY-RTS does the same job from the rack, without the TaHoma app in between. The C2N-SDC is the answer for an existing 120 V line-voltage motor on a projection screen or a heavy exterior shade. See Somfy motorization and automation and integration for how we decide which system leads.
Crestron shade and drapery controllers: frequently asked
Can Somfy shades be controlled by Crestron?
Yes. The CI-SOMFY-RTS transmitter puts up to 16 groups of Somfy RTS motors on the Crestron processor, and Somfy's TaHoma integration is the other route; Somfy's SDN and RS485 motors connect directly. We have done both on South Florida projects.
What does the C2N-SDC control?
Any conventional three-wire 120 V AC bidirectional motor, two of them per controller, at up to 7.5 A and 1/3 HP each: window treatments, projection screens, lifts, doors and sunroofs, from Cresnet with interlock logic so both directions cannot be energised at once.
Do you install Crestron shades without a Crestron integrator?
We measure and specify the shades, Crestron builds them to order, our workroom sews the drapery for the track, and we install everything and commission it with the home's integrator, who owns the processor programming. On a project without an integrator we bring one in or propose Lutron or Somfy, which we program ourselves.
