Crestron QMT5 shade motors: the 4 Nm Digital QMT motors for shades to 168 inches
Crestron QMT5 shade motors: every current model, Crestron's specifications and documents, and what the shade costs in Crestron's own budget guide.
What are the Crestron QMT5 shade motors?
The Crestron QMT5 motors are the 4 Nm Digital QMT family in two tube sizes: the CSM-QMTDC-250-4 (2.50 in diameter) for shades 18 to 133 inches wide and the CSM-QMTDC-275-4 (2.75 in) for shades 18 to 168 inches wide, each wired on Cresnet (-CN) or wireless on infiNET EX (-EX), plus the CSMI international versions.
Both run at 10 to 30 rpm on 24 V DC, 42.5 W (1.8 A) from a CSA-PWS40 or CSA-PWS10S-HUB-ENET, with the same 8 minutes on, 40 minutes off duty cycle at full torque, the same UP, SET, DN buttons and status LED, and Crestron's obstruction detection. The Cresnet versions carry power and data on one 4-conductor lead; the infiNET EX versions take a 2-conductor power lead and join the 2.4 GHz mesh through a CEN-GWEXER or CEN-GWEXER-PWE gateway, 150 ft indoors and 250 ft outdoors by Crestron's figures. The 275 motor is the one for the widest single shades and for the heavier blackouts; both mount in the QMT5 Architectural and QMT5 Decor hardware, whose brackets are built around this motor and its 2.5 or 2.75 inch tube.

What Crestron's own guide says a shade costs
Crestron sells no motor or bracket on its own: the price is the finished shade, and Crestron publishes only a budgetary guide for it. This is that guide, unchanged.
| Shade size | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 ft wide x 5 ft high | $900 | $1,000 | $1,200 | $1,400 |
| 5 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,100 | $1,300 | $1,600 | $2,200 |
| 10 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,400 | $1,600 | $2,000 | $3,200 |
Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Where the QMT5 shade motors fit
The QMT5 is the living-room motor on the ocean side of Sunny Isles, Bal Harbour and Fort Lauderdale beach condos, where a single shade runs 10 to 14 ft across the glass and a 5% screen or a blackout has to hang dead flat in a 2.5 inch fascia or a ceiling pocket. Coupled and dual shades on one bracket also start here: the QMT5 brackets exist in single, dual, coupled and angled-coupled versions. A wall of glass wider than 168 inches is two shades on one line, programmed to move together. Below 96 inches in a light fabric, the QMT3 does the job in a smaller pocket.
Crestron QMT5 shade motors: frequently asked
Which QMT5 motor do I need, the 250 or the 275?
The tube. The CSM-QMTDC-250-4 fits a 2.50 inch tube and is rated to 133 inches wide; the CSM-QMTDC-275-4 fits a 2.75 inch tube and reaches 168 inches. Crestron's sizing depends on width, height and fabric weight together, so a tall blackout moves to the 275 sooner than a light screen does. We size every shade on Crestron's charts before it is ordered.
How quiet are the Digital QMT motors?
Crestron markets the family as Digital Quiet Motor Technology and describes its operation as nearly inaudible; it publishes no decibel figure for the QMT motors, so we do not quote one. In our showrooms the motors are running and you can judge them against Lutron and Somfy motors side by side.
Can two Crestron shades share one QMT5 motor?
Yes, with Crestron's coupled brackets: the QMT5 Architectural hardware has single coupled and dual coupled brackets and an angled coupler for bay windows, so one motor turns two tubes on one line. Where the openings are very wide or the fabric heavy, one motor per shade and a programmed group is the more reliable answer.
How much does a Crestron shade with the QMT5 shade motors cost?
Crestron publishes no prices for its motors or hardware; the motor ships inside a complete shade. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists one motorized 5 Series roller shade at $900 to $3,200 MSRP depending on size and fabric tier, before options, control, wiring and installation. We quote every project at the measure, with the fabric, the hardware and the commissioning on one number.
Do you install Crestron shades without a Crestron integrator?
We measure and specify the shades, Crestron builds them to order, our workroom sews the drapery for the track, and we install everything and commission it with the home's integrator, who owns the processor programming. On a project without an integrator we bring one in or propose Lutron or Somfy, which we program ourselves.
