Brackets, Pockets and Fascia

What are the Crestron Architectural shade hardware?

Crestron's Architectural hardware (CSS-ARCH3 for the QMT3 motor, CSS-ARCH5 for the QMT5) is the mounting system behind a Crestron roller shade: brackets for surface mounting on a wall or ceiling or recessing in a pocket or window jamb, with fascia, top and back covers, aluminum pockets and the blackout side channels, H channels and sill angles that close the light gaps.

Single roll shades on the QMT3 hardware fit a pocket as small as 3 x 3 inches; the QMT5 needs 5 x 5 inches, and dual shades on one bracket need 5.75 x 4.125 inches (QMT3) or 9 x 6 inches (QMT5). Fascia comes square or curved, top and back covers in single and dual versions, and pockets as aluminum U-extrusions with an optional tile lip, all in white, black, gray, brown and almond and running to 16 ft in one length; the QMT3 brackets themselves are white. The QMT5 system adds coupled brackets, an angled coupler for bay windows and manual clutch brackets with Crestron's Chainhold tension device for child safety. Blackout accessories are the same on both: U-channels at the sides, an H-channel between two shades and a sill angle at the bottom, with end caps. The CSA-DSK-HDWR-QMT3 and QMT5 sample cases hold the parts for a design meeting. Crestron sells the hardware only as part of a complete shade, so the choice is made when the shade is specified.

What It Costs

What Crestron's own guide says a shade costs

Crestron sells no motor or bracket on its own: the price is the finished shade, and Crestron publishes only a budgetary guide for it. This is that guide, unchanged.

Crestron Shades Budgetary Estimation Guide, June 2022: one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, MSRP in US dollars
Shade sizeTier 1Tier 2Tier 3Tier 4
3 ft wide x 5 ft high$900$1,000$1,200$1,400
5 ft wide x 10 ft high$1,100$1,300$1,600$2,200
10 ft wide x 10 ft high$1,400$1,600$2,000$3,200

Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).

Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.

Where the Architectural hardware fit

On Trump Tower III every roller sits in a recessed ceiling pocket, no fascia, no bracket, no tube in sight, which is what the Architectural pocket is for; the pockets were templated on a stepped and curved facade and set out with the ceiling trades before the drywall closed. On a finished ceiling the same shade wears a square fascia or a top and back cover in the jamb. Blackout channels are the difference between a dark bedroom and a bright edge at 6 am on an east-facing wall in Sunny Isles: see blackout shades and recessed shade pockets for how we detail them.

Good to Know

Crestron Architectural shade hardware: frequently asked

What is the difference between QMT3 and QMT5 Architectural hardware?

The motor and tube they are built around. QMT3 hardware carries the 3/4 Nm CSM-QMTDC-163-1 motor on a 1.625 inch tube in a pocket as small as 3 x 3 inches; QMT5 hardware carries the 4 Nm CSM-QMTDC-250-4 on a 2.5 inch tube, needs 5 x 5 inches and adds coupled and angled brackets for wider walls and bays.

How deep does a Crestron shade pocket need to be?

Crestron's minimum for a single QMT3 shade is 3 x 3 inches and for a single QMT5 shade 5 x 5 inches; dual shades need 5.75 x 4.125 inches (QMT3) or 9 x 6 inches (QMT5). The roll of fabric grows with the shade height, so a 12 ft blackout needs more than the minimum; we confirm the pocket size per opening from Crestron's charts before framing.

Can a Crestron shade be manual?

Yes. Both Architectural systems have manual clutch brackets with a Chainhold tension device, so a guest bath or a closet window can match the motorized shades in the same finish and fascia without a motor.

Do you install Crestron shades without a Crestron integrator?

We measure and specify the shades, Crestron builds them to order, our workroom sews the drapery for the track, and we install everything and commission it with the home's integrator, who owns the processor programming. On a project without an integrator we bring one in or propose Lutron or Somfy, which we program ourselves.
