Crestron cable-guided shades: the roller shade for a sloped or angled window
Crestron cable-guided shades: every current model, Crestron's specifications and documents, and what the shade costs in Crestron's own budget guide.
What are the Crestron cable-guided shades?
Crestron's cable-guided shade (CS-SHADE-ROLLER-CABLEGUIDED) adds a pair of tensioned steel cables at either side of a QMT5 roller shade so the fabric follows a window pitched up to 20 degrees from vertical, inwards or outwards, and stays put in moving air.
A weighted hembar with slotted end caps rides the cables as the shade goes up and down; decorative anchors hold the cables at the sill and precision brackets take the top to the header, the jamb or the ceiling. Crestron rates it for shades up to about 10 ft (3 m) wide or long, on the QMT5 Architectural (CSS-ARCH5) and Decor (CSS-DECOR5) hardware with the CSM-QMTDC-250-4 or 275-4 motor. The cables take the sway out of a shade near an open door or under an air outlet as well as the slope out of an angled glazing line.

What Crestron's own guide says a shade costs
Crestron sells no motor or bracket on its own: the price is the finished shade, and Crestron publishes only a budgetary guide for it. This is that guide, unchanged.
| Shade size | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 ft wide x 5 ft high | $900 | $1,000 | $1,200 | $1,400 |
| 5 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,100 | $1,300 | $1,600 | $2,200 |
| 10 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,400 | $1,600 | $2,000 | $3,200 |
Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Where the cable-guided shades fit
Angled glass is rarer in a Florida condo than in a mountain house, but it turns up on the clerestory of a Coconut Grove modernist home, a sunroom addition in Boca, and the raked window wall of a yacht's saloon; the cable guide keeps the fabric flat against glass that leans. On a plumb window that catches the breeze from a terrace door, the same cables stop a light screen from swinging. Our yacht and marine window treatments page shows where guided shades earn their place at sea.
Crestron cable-guided shades: frequently asked
What angle can a cable-guided Crestron shade handle?
Up to 20 degrees from vertical, pitched inwards or outwards, by Crestron's figure, on shades up to about 10 ft wide or long.
Does the cable guide work with any Crestron motor?
It is made for the QMT5 hardware, Architectural or Decor, and the CSM-QMTDC-250-4 and 275-4 motors. The smaller QMT3 shades are not cable guided.
How much does a Crestron shade with the cable-guided shades cost?
Crestron publishes no prices for its motors or hardware; the motor ships inside a complete shade. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists one motorized 5 Series roller shade at $900 to $3,200 MSRP depending on size and fabric tier, before options, control, wiring and installation. We quote every project at the measure, with the fabric, the hardware and the commissioning on one number.
Do you install Crestron shades without a Crestron integrator?
We measure and specify the shades, Crestron builds them to order, our workroom sews the drapery for the track, and we install everything and commission it with the home's integrator, who owns the processor programming. On a project without an integrator we bring one in or propose Lutron or Somfy, which we program ourselves.
