Crestron QMT3 shade motors: the small Digital QMT motor for shades to 96 inches
Crestron QMT3 shade motors: every current model, Crestron's specifications and documents, and what the shade costs in Crestron's own budget guide.
What are the Crestron QMT3 shade motors?
The Crestron QMT3 motors are the CSM-QMTDC-163-1 family: a 3/4 Nm Digital QMT shade motor, 1.625 inches (42 mm) in diameter, for Crestron roller shades from 17.5 to 96 inches wide depending on fabric and height. It comes wired for Cresnet (CSM-QMTDC-163-1-CN), wireless on infiNET EX (CSM-QMTDC-163-1-EX) and, as the CSMI part numbers, in international versions.
Crestron calls the technology Digital Quiet Motor Technology: the electronics live inside the tube, so there is no interface box at the window, the motor reports its position back to the processor and it calibrates its own torque to detect an obstruction. The Cresnet version takes one 4-conductor home run carrying 24 V DC power and data from a CSA-PWS series power supply; Crestron lists it at 42.5 W (1.8 A at 24 V DC) with a speed of 10 to 30 rpm and a duty cycle of 8 minutes on, 40 off. The infiNET EX version needs only a 2-conductor power lead and talks to the system through a CEN-GWEXER gateway over a 2.4 GHz mesh, 150 ft indoors by Crestron's figure. Three buttons on the motor head (UP, SET, DN) let the installer set the limits, and a multicolour LED shows status. It mounts in the QMT3 Architectural and Decor hardware; Crestron sells it only inside a complete shade.

What Crestron's own guide says a shade costs
Crestron sells no motor or bracket on its own: the price is the finished shade, and Crestron publishes only a budgetary guide for it. This is that guide, unchanged.
| Shade size | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 ft wide x 5 ft high | $900 | $1,000 | $1,200 | $1,400 |
| 5 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,100 | $1,300 | $1,600 | $2,200 |
| 10 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,400 | $1,600 | $2,000 | $3,200 |
Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Where the QMT3 shade motors fit
The QMT3 is the motor on most of a South Florida condo: bedroom and bathroom windows, the panels beside a slider, any opening under 8 ft in a light or medium fabric. On Trump Tower III in Sunny Isles Beach we ran Crestron Digital QMT rollers in Mermet E Screen 5% through recessed ceiling pockets on every living-space window and commissioned them into the residence's existing Control4 scenes with the home's AV partner. For anything wider than 96 inches, or a heavy blackout on a tall opening, the next step is the QMT5 motor; where the walls are closed, the battery version of this same motor. Which fabric goes on it is a separate choice: see the Crestron fabric library.
Crestron QMT3 shade motors: frequently asked
What is the difference between the CSM-QMTDC-163-1-CN and the -EX?
They are the same 3/4 Nm motor with a different link to the system. The CN version is wired on Cresnet, one 4-conductor home run per motor carrying power and data. The EX version is wireless on infiNET EX and needs only a power lead, with a CEN-GWEXER gateway on the network. We choose wired wherever a cable can be run, wireless where it cannot.
How wide a shade can a QMT3 motor drive?
Crestron rates the CSM-QMTDC-163-1-CN for shades 17.5 to 96 inches (445 to 2,439 mm) wide, depending on the fabric and the shade height. The limit moves with fabric weight: a 96 inch blackout is heavier than a 96 inch 5% screen, so we check every opening against Crestron's sizing charts when we measure.
What does the QMT3 need at the window?
One home run of 4-conductor Cresnet cable from the power supply to the motor for the CN version, never daisy-chained; Crestron's standard Cresnet run is about 130 ft, Cresnet HP 500 ft. The EX version needs only 24 V DC power at the window. Our pre-wiring guide has the cable and pocket details for the electrician.
How much does a Crestron shade with the QMT3 shade motors cost?
Crestron publishes no prices for its motors or hardware; the motor ships inside a complete shade. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists one motorized 5 Series roller shade at $900 to $3,200 MSRP depending on size and fabric tier, before options, control, wiring and installation. We quote every project at the measure, with the fabric, the hardware and the commissioning on one number.
Do you install Crestron shades without a Crestron integrator?
We measure and specify the shades, Crestron builds them to order, our workroom sews the drapery for the track, and we install everything and commission it with the home's integrator, who owns the processor programming. On a project without an integrator we bring one in or propose Lutron or Somfy, which we program ourselves.
