The dense twill of the reinforced-core pair, in four charcoals
Satiné is the second of Mermet's two exterior-rated weaves and the darker, denser one. It is an offset twill in 42% fiberglass and 58% vinyl, 122 inches wide, woven at 1% and 5%, and at 17.8 oz per square yard in the 1% weave it is the heaviest screen in the library after S Screen. The diagonal line of the twill gives it a textile surface rather than a technical one, and Mermet identifies its two sides by which way that diagonal runs. Every colourway has a photograph of its reverse face on this page.
The card is four charcoals: Charcoal/Charcoal, Charcoal/Charcoal-Grey, Charcoal/Cocoa and Charcoal/Cocoa-Fawn. They absorb 87% to 95% of the solar energy that reaches them and pass 1% to 6% of the visible light, which makes Satiné 1% the densest, clearest-viewing screen Mermet weaves. UV blockage is about 99% at 1% and 95% at 5%. Fire listings are NFPA 701 TM#1, California Title 19 and CAN/ULC-S109, with GREENGUARD Gold, RoHS lead free and antimicrobial testing to ASTM E2180 and ASTM G21.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, Rv = visible light reflected, in percent, as published by Mermet USA for the fabric on its own. SHGC int. and SHGC ext. = solar heat gain coefficient of the fabric mounted inside or outside residential double glazing, from the same spec sheets; UPF = Mermet's ultraviolet protection rating where it publishes one. We bring the sample books to the consultation.
Where Satiné works here
Outdoors we specify Satiné 5% on a terrace or a pool deck where the client wants a dark, quiet shade rather than a two-tone one, on a motorized exterior roller in side tracks. Indoors the 1% weave is our answer to a tall west window that has beaten every lighter fabric: charcoal, heavy enough to hang dead flat, and dense enough that the glare simply stops. Both go on the same motors as any other shade we make.
Satiné is the dense charcoal twill of the reinforced-core pair; Natté is the more open basketweave in twelve two-tone colours at 3%, 5% and 10%.
Satiné: frequently asked
Why is Satiné only offered in charcoal?
Because that is the card Mermet weaves: four charcoal combinations, paired with charcoal, charcoal-grey, cocoa or cocoa-fawn. For a lighter exterior fabric, Natté runs from Sable/White to Grey/Grey in the same reinforced-core construction.
Is a 1% exterior shade too dark?
Outdoors, usually yes on an open terrace, where 5% keeps the air moving and the view open. Indoors, 1% is exactly the point: the densest weave here, absorbing up to 95% of the solar energy that reaches it, for a window where glare is the whole complaint.
How wide can a Mermet Satiné shade be?
Mermet publishes standard roll widths of 122" (310 cm) for Satiné, so a single shade can run to about 122 inches wide before a seam or a second shade is needed. Wider openings are covered with two shades on one headrail programmed to move together, or with a seam placed where the mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the chosen system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in Satiné?
Satiné is a roller shade fabric. We source it directly from Mermet, so the same weave goes on Lutron, Somfy, Crestron or Vertilux motors or a manual chain, cut and finished in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Can I see Satiné samples before ordering?
Yes. We keep the Mermet sample books in the Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and the Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150), and we bring the colours you shortlist to the in-home consultation so you can hold them against your glass in your own light.
