A blackout honeycomb with full figures, and a White that returns most of the sun

Barolo Blackout 25 mm is TOP Window Covering's dense blackout honeycomb in a single 25 mm cell: a polyester 0.18 mm thick and 215 g/m2, in six colours, White, Ivory, Sand, Gray, Anthracite and Black. Unlike most blackout honeycombs in TOP's range, it comes with a full datasheet row for every colour, and every row reads 0 for visible light and solar energy transmitted, with 0 UV across the card. TOP rates it suitable for workstations. It is for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms.

With darkness settled, the figures turn into a heat decision. White reflects 77.2 percent of the sun's energy and Ivory 73, the highest of any blackout honeycomb TOP publishes figures for; Sand reflects 61.2, Gray 58.6, Anthracite 44.2 and Black 38.1, so Black absorbs most of what reaches it. On west and south glass we would take White or Ivory; Black and Anthracite suit a north bedroom or a media room. The trade-off is one cell size and a short card.

Best Use & Limits

What Barolo Blackout 25 mm does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

Bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms, and above all a west or south bedroom where the shade has to keep both light and heat out. White or Ivory there, for the reflectance; Gray or Sand where white looks stark; Anthracite or Black for a north room or a media room. On sunny glass, choose White.

Privacy

Complete through the cloth in every colour, by day and after dark: TOP publishes 0 visible transmission across the card. The edges are what remain, a thin line of light beside an inside-mounted shade that shows the street a lamp is on. An outside mount with an overlap closes most of it.

Glare control

Nothing reaches the room through the fabric, so a television or a projector has no competition, and the daylight leaves with the glare. That suits a media room and not a study. For a room used by day in the same colour, take Barolo Translucent 25 mm in White or Ivory.

Limitations

One cell size, six colours, no fire listing on TOP's datasheet, and no daylight with the shade down. Black and Anthracite absorb most of the sun that reaches them, which on west glass puts warmth into the cloth at the window. If the room needs a deeper pleat or a fire listing, this is not the fabric.

South Florida

Where Barolo Blackout 25 mm works here

For a South Florida bedroom on the west side of a house, or on a high condo floor where the afternoon sun lands square, Barolo Blackout in White is the blackout we can defend on paper: no light through the cloth and more than three quarters of the sun's energy sent back toward the glass. With Barolo Translucent in the same colour in the living room, the two share a name and a cell.

Barolo Translucent 25 mm shares the six colour names and the 25 mm cell; it filters light in White and Ivory and is already close to dark in its deeper colours.

Good to Know

Barolo Blackout 25 mm: frequently asked

Barolo Translucent in Black already blocks the light, so why the blackout?

Because the blackout holds zero in every colour. The light-filtering Barolo is close to dark only in its deep colours, while its White and Ivory pass about a tenth of the light, and even its Black lets some solar energy through. For a dark bedroom in a pale colour, the cooler choice on sunny glass, this blackout is the version that does both.

How wide can a honeycomb shade in TOP Barolo Blackout 25 mm be?

TOP makes Barolo Blackout 25 mm in a 300 cm (118 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one honeycomb shade can be made a little under 118 inches wide. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades side by side, set to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in Barolo Blackout 25 mm?

Barolo Blackout 25 mm is a honeycomb shade fabric: the cells come formed in the fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering, cut it to the opening in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and build the shade cordless or motorized (Somfy Cord Lift WireFree in the headrail), and our own team installs it from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see Barolo Blackout 25 mm samples before ordering?

Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
