TOP Chianti Blackout Fabric
12 colourways, blackout, 300 cm roll. TOP Window Covering fabric, made into honeycomb shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed from Miami to Palm Beach.
Blackout honeycomb in twelve colours that read the same from the street
Chianti Blackout is TOP Window Covering's film-laminated blackout honeycomb: a point-bonded polyester, 0.16 mm thick and 185 g/m2, with its colour carried on both sides of the cloth. A lowered shade is a flat field of colour formed into 25 mm or 32 mm cells, and the street sees the same colour the bedroom does. Twelve colours, from White, Ivory and Cream through Sand, Dune, Taupe and Sage to the grays and Black, all in both cell sizes. TOP lists the cloth free of PVC, lead, halogens, formaldehyde and phthalates and shows an OEKO-TEX logo on the collection page. It is the fabric for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms.
TOP's datasheet gives every colour a visible transmission of 0, and the colours with a full row show 0 solar and UV transmission as well, so the decision is colour and heat rather than darkness. Cream reflects 70 percent of the sun's energy, Sage 62, Taupe 60, Dune 59, Dark Gray 55 and Black 49: even Black sends about half back toward the glass, and the air in the cells slows the heat the cloth absorbs. Cream has no swatch picture on TOP's page, so we show it as a physical sample. The trade-off is the edges: the cloth stops light, the gaps beside a shade do not.
What Chianti Blackout does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Bedrooms, nurseries, guest rooms and media rooms, and above all a room on a street or a canal where the shade colour shows from outside. Cream, Sage or Taupe on west and south glass for the reflectance; Black or Dark Gray where the room is dark by design. Take the 32 mm cell on tall windows and the 25 mm on standard ones. For a nursery, build it cordless.
Privacy
Complete through the cloth, by day and after dark, in every colour: nothing in the lit room reads through it. What the street can see is a thin line of light beside an inside-mounted shade, which says someone is home without showing anything. An outside mount with an overlap closes most of that. Because both sides carry the colour, the shade itself is what the neighbors see.
Glare control
Nothing reaches the room through the cloth, so a television or a projector wall has no competition from the window at any hour. The daylight goes with the glare, which is right for a media room and wrong at a desk. A home office that only needs the sun softened belongs in Chianti Translucent, in the same colour.
Limitations
TOP marks it unsuitable for humid rooms, so not for a bathroom, and the datasheet lists no fire listing, which keeps it out of hotel rooms and amenity spaces that need one. It gives no daylight and no view with the shade down, and the colour shows outside whatever the association thinks. For a hotel room, look at TOP's flame-retardant contract fabrics, made up as roller shades.

Every Chianti Blackout colourway, with TOP's published figures
Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, Tuv = UV transmitted, in percent for the fabric alone, as published on TOP's datasheet; a dash means TOP publishes no figure for that colour. We bring TOP samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.
Where Chianti Blackout works here
This is the blackout we would put in a South Florida bedroom that faces a street, a canal or a neighbor, where its colour shows outside and should look chosen. In a condo whose association wants a uniform exterior, take White or Ivory, or ask before ordering Black or Sage. On west glass, Cream and Sage, the most reflective colours on paper, keep more of the afternoon out of the cloth. We would build a nursery shade cordless and motorize a primary bedroom on Somfy Cord Lift WireFree.
Chianti Translucent is the light-filtering twin in the same twelve colour names and both cell sizes, so a living room and a bedroom can share one colour.
Chianti Blackout: frequently asked
Will the room go completely dark?
The cloth will: TOP publishes 0 visible transmission for every colour, and the lift cords run inside the cells, so the face has no pinholes. The edges are another matter: a shade mounted inside the frame leaves a small gap at each side, and light finds it. For a media room or a day sleeper, we mount it outside the frame with an overlap, which closes most of the gap. Expect a dark room, not a sealed one.
Does the colour show from outside?
Yes. Chianti Blackout carries its colour on both sides, so a Black shade is black from the street. That suits a house where the shade is part of the elevation, and it can conflict with a condo association that asks for a uniform light exterior. In that case choose White or Ivory, or check the building's rules before ordering a dark colour.
Can the living room match in light-filtering?
Yes. Chianti Translucent has the same twelve colour names in both cell sizes, with its colour on both sides too, so a bedroom in blackout Taupe and a living room in light-filtering Taupe read as one scheme. The light-filtering version lets daylight through, softly in Black and brightly in White, so hold the two samples together in daylight before ordering.
How wide can a honeycomb shade in TOP Chianti Blackout be?
TOP makes Chianti Blackout in a 300 cm (118 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one honeycomb shade can be made a little under 118 inches wide. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades side by side, set to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in Chianti Blackout?
Chianti Blackout is a honeycomb shade fabric: the cells come formed in the fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering, cut it to the opening in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and build the shade cordless or motorized (Somfy Cord Lift WireFree in the headrail), and our own team installs it from Miami to Palm Beach.
Can I see Chianti Blackout samples before ordering?
Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
