The thinnest blackout in TOP's roller line, for tall windows and tight pockets

Riva Blackout White Backing is the thinnest blackout in TOP Window Covering's roller line: 100% polyester with an acrylic foam coating, only 0.34 mm thick at 340 g/m2, on a 280 cm roll, about 110 inches. The face is plain and flat, and the six colours are a short neutral run, White, Off White and Sand through Gray and Graphite to Black, each with a white back. It is for tall windows and shallow pockets, where a thicker blackout would roll too large, and for media rooms that want a dark face without a dark window outside.

Thickness is the reason to choose it. At about half the thickness of the heaviest blackouts in the range, it makes a much smaller roll for the same drop, so a tall shade fits a slim pocket or headbox. Black and Graphite give a media room a dark face while the street still sees white. TOP publishes no optical figures for Riva and makes no humid-room claim for it, so it stays out of bathrooms. The other trade is a six-colour card.

Best Use & Limits

What Riva Blackout does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

Tall windows, double-height rooms, shallow pockets and slim headboxes, where roll size decides the fabric. Also a media room or a bedroom that wants a black or graphite face behind a white street side. Choose White, Off White or Sand for a bedroom that should feel light, Graphite or Black for one that should vanish at night. If the pocket is tight, this is the blackout.

Privacy

The cloth covers the room fully, day and night, in all six colours; that is TOP's blackout class, though no transmission figure is published for Riva. A roller leaves a small gap at each side, and after dark a lit room shows a thin line of light there. Side channels close it.

Glare control

Down, it removes glare together with the daylight, which is right for a projector screen or a television wall. TOP lists it as suitable for workstations, so a home office that has to go dark for video work is a fair use. There are no published figures, and a low sun in line with the window still shows at the side gaps.

Limitations

Keep it out of bathrooms and rooms that stay damp, since TOP's datasheet makes no humid-room claim for Riva. It gives no daylight or view, TOP lists no fire rating, and six neutrals is a short card. For a wet room, Perugia Blackout White Backing is the white-backed blackout TOP marks humid-rated and fungal resistant.

South Florida

Where Riva Blackout White Backing works here

In South Florida this is the blackout for a high-ceiling bedroom, or for a new-construction pocket that was drawn too shallow for an ordinary blackout. We would make it up on a Lutron or Somfy motor for a media room in Black or Graphite, with side channels. For a bathroom or a room on the water we specify a card TOP lists for humid rooms instead.

Milan Blackout White Backing comes on the same 280 cm roll with a similar short neutral card, in a cloth about twice as thick that TOP lists for humid rooms.

Good to Know

Riva Blackout White Backing: frequently asked

Why does the thickness matter?

Because a roller shade stores its whole drop on the tube. At 0.34 mm, Riva builds a much smaller roll than the thicker blackouts in TOP's range, so a tall shade fits a shallower pocket or a slimmer cassette. If a pocket is already built and an ordinary blackout will not fit it, Riva is the first fabric we try.

Can it go in a bathroom?

We would not put it there. TOP's datasheet lists Riva as suitable for workstations but makes no claim for humid environments, unlike most of its blackout rollers. For a bathroom or a pool-side room, Sorrento, Orient and Perugia carry the humid-room listing, and Perugia is also marked fungal resistant.

How wide can a roller shade in TOP Riva Blackout White Backing be?

TOP makes Riva Blackout White Backing in a 280 cm (110 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 110 inches wide. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades side by side, set to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in Riva Blackout White Backing?

Riva Blackout White Backing is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Is Riva Blackout White Backing flame retardant?

TOP lists no fire rating for the standard Riva Blackout White Backing, and its datasheet marks flame retardancy as optional. If your building needs a listing, tell us before we order and we confirm with TOP what can be supplied.

Can I see Riva Blackout White Backing samples before ordering?

Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
