TOP Roller Shade Fabrics
268 colourways in 27 designs, from open transparent weaves to white- and colour-backed blackouts, made into roller shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom.
From a softened view to a dark bedroom
A roller shade is one layer of fabric on a tube, so the fabric decides almost everything the shade does to a room. TOP's roller range splits three ways: transparent weaves that keep a softened view, light-filtering fabrics (TOP calls them translucent) that hide the room from the street and let daylight through, and blackouts that stop the light through the cloth, with a white or a colour backing. All 268 colourways in 27 designs are here, each design with its own page of swatches and figures.
TOP lists every roller fabric in this library as PVC-free on its datasheet, nearly all of them as free of lead, halogens, formaldehyde and phthalates too, and many as suitable for humid rooms, which matters in a bathroom or a kitchen by the water. Rolls are 240, 280 or 300 cm wide (about 94, 110 and 118 inches), and Orient (XXL) adds a 300 cm roll in some colours. Where TOP publishes Tv, Ts, Rs and As, the design page gives them colour by colour.

How we choose a TOP roller fabric
Transparent
For rooms where the view matters more than privacy: the weave softens glare and keeps the outline of the water or the garden by day. At night, with the lights on, it hides nothing, so a bedroom or a street-facing room needs a second layer behind it.
Light-filtering
TOP's translucent weaves block the view in both directions by day and fill the room with even light. After dark a lit room shows shapes and a glow through them, not detail. The everyday choice for living rooms, kitchens and home offices.
Blackout, white backing
The street side of every colour is white, so a facade reads evenly whatever colour each room chose inside, and the white face sends more of the sun's heat back out. The usual answer in a condo with rules about how windows look from outside.
Blackout, colour backing
The back carries the face colour, so the shade looks the same from the street as from the room. Choose it when the outside of the window matters, on a house or a feature window; a dark colour absorbs more heat at the glass.
Reading TOP's figures
Tv is the share of visible light the fabric lets through, Rs the share of the sun's energy it reflects back out. On TOP's sheets the colour moves both more than the family does: Verona Plus in White passes 46.4% of the visible light and Anthracite 1.1%; Blues in Ivory reflects 74% of the solar energy while Gunmetal passes almost no light at all. A pale colour keeps the room brighter and cooler at the glass, a dark one cuts glare harder and gives the clearer view out, so pick the colour for the room and the exposure, not only for the decor.
A blackout's Tv is 0, so what separates one from another is the backing, the weight and how the shade is mounted. Garda Blackout in Off White reflects 70.6% of the sun's energy, a pale face sending most of the heat back out. And every roller blackout leaks a thin line of light at both edges unless it runs in side channels or a recessed pocket, which is how we build a bedroom that has to be dark: see blackout shades.

Roller shade fabrics in South Florida homes
In South Florida we put the transparent weaves on view rooms facing the water where privacy is not the brief, light-filtering fabrics in living rooms, kitchens and home offices that face the street or a neighbour, and blackouts in bedrooms and media rooms. In a condo tower the association often wants one look from outside; a white-backed blackout and a pale light-filtering fabric keep the facade even. Most of the rollers here are listed for humid rooms on TOP's datasheet, which is what we check before a bathroom or a pool-house window.
TOP roller shade fabrics: frequently asked
What is the difference between TOP's translucent and transparent rollers?
Translucent, which we call light-filtering, hides the room by day: you see light and shapes through it, not the view. Transparent keeps a softened view of the outside by day. Neither gives privacy at night with the lights on, and the transparent weaves give the least. Each design page shows the class and, where TOP measures it, the Tv per colour.
Should a blackout have a white or a colour backing?
A white backing makes every window look the same from the street and reflects more heat back out, which is why condo associations often ask for it. A colour backing shows the face colour outside too, so the shade reads the same from both sides. Inside the room the two look alike.
Do TOP roller fabrics contain PVC?
TOP lists every roller fabric in this library as PVC-free on its datasheet. The flame-retardant contract screens and blackouts are different: most of them carry PVC, and their pages say so.
Can a TOP roller shade be motorized?
Yes. We make TOP roller shades on Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motors, or on a manual chain, in our Fort Lauderdale workroom, and our own team installs and programs them. See motorized shades for how the systems differ.
How wide can one TOP roller shade be?
The roll sets it: 240, 280 or 300 cm depending on the design, about 94, 110 or 118 inches. One shade can be made a little under the roll width; wider openings get two shades side by side, set to move together. Each design page gives its roll.
Is there a flame-retardant version of these fabrics?
Yes, in TOP's contract line: Orient FR is a flame-retardant Orient, and Orient FR Blackout White Backing its blackout. The rest of the contract screens, translucents and blackouts are on the FR contract page.
