TOP Twinlight Zebra Shade Fabrics
138 colourways in 16 Twinlight designs: sheer and solid bands on one loop of fabric, made into zebra shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom.
Daylight, view or privacy from one shade
A zebra shade runs one loop of fabric down the front and the back of the shade, woven with alternating sheer and solid bands. Line the sheer bands up and the window reads as a soft screen with the view through it; move the loop a few centimetres and the solid bands cover the sheer ones for privacy; raise the shade and the glass is clear. Twinlight is TOP's name for its zebra fabrics: 138 colourways in 16 designs, all on a 280 cm roll, about 110 inches.
What separates the designs is the band. Seasons, Linea, Blues, Dixie, C-Screen, Linen and Reve pair a 5 cm sheer band with a 7.5 cm solid one, a fine stripe that reads quietly on a window. Fusion, Dixie XL, Swing, Merengue, Salsa and Flamenco run 7 cm and 10 cm, Samba and Tango 6 cm and 10 cm, and Twist 7 cm and 11 cm, a bolder stripe for a big opening. The solid band differs too: TOP's figures for Samba and Twist show a solid stripe that lets almost no light through.

How we choose a Twinlight fabric
Fine or bold bands
A 5 cm sheer band with a 7.5 cm solid one reads as a fine stripe and suits a standard window and a calm room. The 7 cm and 10 cm designs, and Twist at 7 cm and 11 cm, read bolder and keep their proportion on a wide slider or a tall window.
Privacy at night
With the bands offset, a lit room shows a glow through the solid stripes of most Twinlight fabrics, not detail. On Samba and Twist TOP's figures show a solid stripe that stops nearly all light. Either way, light still passes at the sides of the shade.
Colour
Light colours keep the room bright with the bands aligned and reflect heat; dark colours make the sheer band easier to see through, the way a dark screen does. Seasons carries the widest palette in the line, from Ice White to Deep Red.
Fire and humid rooms
Twinlight C-Screen is the one Twinlight with fire listings and a humid-room rating on TOP's datasheet, a PVC-coated cloth for a bathroom, a kitchen or a hotel room. The other Twinlight designs list neither.
What the figures say
TOP publishes light and solar rows for a few colours on most Twinlight sheets: one for the solid band and, for some colours, one for the sheer band. The sheer band passes most of the light. Seasons in Ice White shows a Tv of 39.1 on the solid band and 89.7 on the sheer band, so with the bands aligned the window behaves like a very open screen, and with them offset like the solid band alone.
That is the trade a zebra shade makes: one shade doing the work of a sheer and a light-filtering layer, but never as dark as a blackout or as clear as a solar screen. For a bedroom that has to be dark, a TOP blackout roller or a dual roller does it better; for a view room facing the water, a solar screen keeps more of the view.

Zebra shade fabrics in South Florida homes
We put Twinlight zebra shades where one shade has to do two jobs: a street-facing living room in Fort Lauderdale that wants daylight by day and privacy at dusk, a home office that needs the glare cut at noon and the view back by late afternoon, a guest room that rarely needs full dark. The 280 cm roll covers most single windows in one piece; on a wide slider we pair shades and line the bands up across them when we install.
TOP zebra shade fabrics: frequently asked
What is a Twinlight fabric?
Twinlight is TOP Window Covering's name for its zebra shade fabrics: one fabric woven with alternating sheer and solid horizontal bands and made into a continuous loop. Moving the loop lines the bands up for light and view, or offsets them for privacy. We make the shade from it in our Fort Lauderdale workroom.
Do zebra shades give privacy at night?
Partly. With the bands offset, the solid stripes cover the sheer ones and a lit room shows a glow, not detail; on Samba and Twist the solid stripe stops nearly all light. Light still passes at the sides of the shade. For a bedroom that must be dark, a blackout roller is the better shade.
Can a Twinlight zebra shade be motorized?
Yes. We motorize zebra shades on Lutron or Somfy, which lets the bands stop at the same position every time, or build them with a manual chain. See zebra shades for the systems and cassettes.
Which Twinlight has the finest bands?
Seasons, Linea, Blues, Dixie, C-Screen, Linen and Reve, with a 5 cm sheer band and a 7.5 cm solid band. Twist has the boldest, at 7 cm and 11 cm.
Is there a flame-retardant Twinlight?
Yes: Twinlight C-Screen lists NFPA 701, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, EN 13773 and DIN 4102 B1 on its TOP datasheet, and is rated for humid rooms. The other Twinlight designs list no fire rating.
