Wide bands in ten colours that share their names with the Swing roller fabric

Twinlight Swing is a TOP Window Covering zebra fabric with a roller counterpart: all 10 of its colourways share their names with colours of TOP's light-filtering roller fabric, Swing Translucent. That pairing is the reason to choose it, because zebra shades in the living room and plain rollers in the kitchen or the hall can then follow one palette. Its bands measure 7 cm sheer and 10 cm solid, just under three inches and just under four, so the stripe reads boldly on the window, and the polyester cloth is 0.38 mm thick at 130 g/m2.

The card mixes four deep colours, Petrol, Olive, Purple and Pure Chocolate, with paler ones from White and Ivory to Dune and Misty Blue. TOP publishes no light or solar figures for Swing, so the light level is judged on the sample. As on any zebra, the deep colours should give the darker closed shade and the clearer view through the open stripes, and the pale ones the brighter room. The honest trade-off is fading: TOP states colour fastness to light only as better than 4, where most Twinlight designs publish 5 or more, so we keep the deep colours away from direct sun.

Best Use & Limits

What Twinlight Swing does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

Living rooms, dens, studies and family rooms, especially in a house that also wants plain rollers somewhere, because the colour names carry across. The wide stripe suits sliders and tall windows. Choose a deep colour for a shaded room where the view out matters, a pale one for a sunny room that must stay bright. On west-facing glass, take White, Ivory or Champagne.

Privacy

By day, closed bands hide the room in any colour; open, someone close to the window can see through the sheer bands. At night there is no published figure to go on, so colour is the guide: White and Ivory will let silhouettes through, Pure Chocolate and Petrol should hide more, and a lamp behind the sample settles it. For a bedroom that needs certainty, a blackout honeycomb or a dual roller is the answer.

Glare control

Closed, the solid band turns direct sun into a soft glow in the pale colours and a dimmer one in the deep ones. Open, the bands let the sun across the room in stripes, including a late sun square to the glass, and a television opposite shows every stripe. TOP publishes no light-transmission figure for Swing, so for a room built around a screen we would take Dixie XL in Gunmetal, which has one.

Limitations

Swing is a living-room fabric, not a bedroom-darkening one, and with no published figures it cannot be specified by number. Its fade rating sits below most of the line, so a deep colour on hot west glass is the wrong buy. It carries no fire listing. If the room needs darkness, choose a blackout shade; if it needs numbers, choose Dixie XL or Blues.

South Florida

Where Twinlight Swing works here

On rooms facing the water or the Intracoastal, where the sun is hard, we would take White, Ivory or Champagne; Petrol, Olive and Purple suit a study, a den or a north-facing bedroom. Where the rooms next door take plain rollers, the Swing Translucent fabric carries the same colour names, so we pull both sample books together and match the colour by eye. On Lutron or Somfy motors the bands can be set to one position for the day and another for the night.

Twinlight Fusion has the same wide bands on a slightly thinner but heavier cloth, with a better fade rating and a larger 13-colour card; Swing is the one with a roller fabric under the same colour names.

Good to Know

Twinlight Swing: frequently asked

Do Twinlight Swing and Swing Translucent match?

They share their ten colour names, which is the point of pairing them, but they are different cloths: the roller fabric is the heavier of the two and has no bands, so the same colour can read slightly differently on the window. Before ordering, we hold both at your glass in the same light, and we would put them in different rooms or on different walls rather than next to each other.

Will Petrol or Purple fade on a sunny window?

They are the colours most likely to show it. TOP gives Swing's colour fastness to light only as better than 4, below most of the Twinlight line, and a deep colour shows fading before a pale one does. On unshaded west or south glass we would choose White, Ivory, Champagne or Dune, and keep Petrol, Olive and Purple for north-facing or shaded windows.

How wide can a zebra shade in TOP Twinlight Swing be?

TOP makes Twinlight Swing in a 280 cm (110 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one zebra shade can be made a little under 110 inches wide. Wider openings get two zebra shades side by side, set to move together, or a split placed where a mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in Twinlight Swing?

Twinlight Swing is a zebra shade fabric: one continuous loop of fabric with alternating sheer and solid bands. We buy it from TOP Window Covering and make the zebra shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom, on a manual chain or motorized on Lutron or Somfy, and our own team installs them from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see Twinlight Swing samples before ordering?

Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
