A light-filtering zebra that softens the sun and keeps the room bright

Twinlight Flamenco is a 100% polyester zebra fabric from TOP Window Covering, a light cloth at 120 g/m2 and 0.42 mm with a 7 cm sheer band and a 10 cm solid band, about 2.75 and 4 inches. Its solid band is a light-filtering weave rather than an opaque one, so even with the bands offset the shade glows with daylight. The five colours keep to whites and grays: White, Ivory, Light Gray, Gray and Anthracite. It is for living rooms, kitchens and home offices that want the sun managed rather than shut out.

The colour sets the light. With the bands offset, the solid band passes 32.1% of visible light in White, 19.2% in Light Gray and 6.5% in Anthracite: a bright room with the glare reduced, soft daylight, or a dim, even light. White also reflects 63.1% of the sun's energy back out through the glass. Aligned, the sheer stripe passes 80% in White, close to an open view. The trade-off is plain: no colour darkens a bedroom, and on hard west glass even Anthracite only dims the sun.

Best Use & Limits

What Twinlight Flamenco does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

Living rooms, kitchens, family rooms and home offices on east, north or shaded glass, where the job is taking the edge off the sun while the room stays bright. Light Gray is the all-round choice, White the north-room one, Anthracite the one for a room with a screen or a dark interior. Decision: Flamenco for daylight rooms, a darker Twinlight for any room you sleep in.

Privacy

Offset, it hides the room by day in every colour. After dark it behaves like a light-filtering fabric: with the bands offset, people near a lit lamp show as silhouettes, most clearly through White; with the bands aligned, the sheer stripes show the room. For night privacy in a bedroom or a street-facing room, add a blackout shade or choose a zebra with an opaque solid band.

Glare control

Offset in Anthracite, at 6.5% visible transmission, direct sun becomes a dim glow and a TV stays watchable. Light Gray at 19.2% softens the sun but can still wash out a screen facing the window, and White at 32.1% reduces glare without removing it. Aligned, the sheer stripes pass 80% of the light in White, so a low sun in line with the window comes straight through.

Limitations

Do not buy Flamenco to darken a room, to hold back heat on a west wall or to protect art: the solid band is light-filtering in every colour, passes about a third of the sun's energy in White and up to 28% UV. It carries no fire listings either. For a zebra that goes near-dark, look at Twinlight Twist.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, Tuv = UV transmitted, in percent for the fabric alone, as published on TOP's datasheet; a dash means TOP publishes no figure for that colour. On the Twinlight sheets the main row is the solid band and the sheer-band columns are TOP's figures for the open stripe. We bring TOP samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.

South Florida

Where Twinlight Flamenco works here

Flamenco belongs where South Florida light is welcome but too strong: an east-facing kitchen or family room, a living room under a deep overhang, a home office that does not face the sun. Light Gray is the colour we would show first; White suits a north room, Anthracite a room with a TV. On west glass or in a bedroom we would point you to a darker Twinlight. Motorized, it runs on Lutron or Somfy.

TOP's Flamenco is the plain light-filtering roller fabric with the same name, the same five colour names and the same 0.42 mm thickness, which suits a room next door where a zebra does not fit; we would compare the two samples side by side before mixing them.

Good to Know

Twinlight Flamenco: frequently asked

Is Flamenco dark enough for a bedroom?

No. Even in Anthracite the solid band passes 6.5% of visible light, and in White 32.1%, so with the bands offset the room stays lit and morning sun shows. For a bedroom zebra we would look at Twinlight Samba or Twinlight Twist, whose solid bands publish at or near zero, or put a blackout roller in the room.

Will it protect my floors from fading?

Partly. TOP publishes 7.2% to 28% UV transmission through the solid band across the colours it measured, and the sheer stripes are open when the bands are aligned. With the bands offset the dose drops, but it does not stop. Where wood floors or art sit in direct sun, a Twinlight that publishes near-zero UV in the solid band is the better order.

How wide can a zebra shade in TOP Twinlight Flamenco be?

TOP makes Twinlight Flamenco in a 280 cm (110 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one zebra shade can be made a little under 110 inches wide. Wider openings get two zebra shades side by side, set to move together, or a split placed where a mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in Twinlight Flamenco?

Twinlight Flamenco is a zebra shade fabric: one continuous loop of fabric with alternating sheer and solid bands. We buy it from TOP Window Covering and make the zebra shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom, on a manual chain or motorized on Lutron or Somfy, and our own team installs them from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see Twinlight Flamenco samples before ordering?

Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
