A light-filtering roller in 36 colours, for rooms where the colour has to be exact

Orient (XXL) is the widest colour card among TOP Window Covering's roller fabrics: one light-filtering polyester cloth in 36 colours. It is a light cloth, 0.35 mm thick and 150 g/m2 with an acrylic coating, made on a 240 cm roll (94.5 inches) and, in some colours, on a 300 cm roll (118 inches) as well. With the shade down the room is hidden, the view gives way to soft light, and the window becomes an even panel of the chosen colour. The card runs from White, Ice White and Antique White through Oyster, Sand and Havana Beige to Terracotta, Argan Blue, Sea Moss and Dark Blue, which makes it the cloth for matching paint, tile or upholstery.

TOP publishes no light or solar figures for Orient (XXL), so the choice is made with a sample held to your own glass rather than from a table. Expect the pale end of the card to give a bright, even light and the deep colours, Dark Gray, Brown, Fig or Dark Blue, to bring the room down and tint it. The pale colours also send more of the sun's heat back out through the glass, while the deep ones absorb it and warm up at the window. The trade-offs are plain: there is no fire listing on the datasheet, and the 300 cm roll is not made in every colour.

Best Use & Limits

What Orient XXL does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

The everyday daylight shade for living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, children's rooms and studies, wherever the scheme is built on a colour and the shade has to belong to it. It also lets a whole house run one cloth with a different colour room by room. For a wide opening, pick the colour first and confirm its width. If the room needs darkness or a view, look elsewhere; for daylight in an exact colour, start here.

Privacy

By day, with the shade down, nobody sees in, and the outside shows as shapes at most. After dark it reverses: with lamps on, the shade glows and shows the shadow of anyone moving near it, most clearly in the pale colours. For a bedroom or a street-side bathroom, pair it with a blackout on a dual roller, or use Orient Blackout White Backing on its own.

Glare control

TOP gives no transmission figures, so judge it by its class. A light-filtering cloth has nothing to look through: direct sun is spread into an even glow rather than a beam, and a laptop stays usable. A pale colour on a sunny window becomes the brightest surface in the room, which a television facing it will show; the deep colours keep that panel dim. A low sun square to the window lights the whole shade.

Limitations

It will not darken a bedroom, keep a view or satisfy a fire marshal: TOP lists no fire rating for it, so a hotel room, condo common area or office takes Orient FR instead. On a colour made only at 240 cm, an opening wider than 94.5 inches becomes two shades. With no figures, two colours can only be compared side by side at the window. For a dark room, see blackout shades.

South Florida

Where Orient (XXL) works here

In South Florida we would use Orient (XXL) where a house wants one light-filtering cloth with its own colour in each room: Sand in the kitchen, Ice White in the baths, Light Blue in a child's room, Balsam Green in a study. On an opening wider than 94.5 inches we confirm the chosen colour is made 300 cm wide before quoting, and a shade that size goes on a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor. Every shade is made in our Fort Lauderdale workroom.

Orient FR is the flame-retardant Orient: six of these colours under the same item numbers with an FR suffix, listed to NFPA 701, where Orient (XXL) carries no fire listing but thirty more colours.

Good to Know

Orient (XXL): frequently asked

Will a strong colour like Terracotta or Dark Blue fade on a sunny window?

TOP rates Orient (XXL) at 6 - 7 for light-fastness on DIN ISO 105-B02, as high as it rates any of its light-filtering rollers, so the strong colours are a reasonable choice here. Any dyed cloth in direct sun changes slowly, and a change shows sooner in a saturated colour than in a pale one, so on hard west glass we still lean toward the lighter end of the card.

Can it go in a bathroom?

Yes. TOP lists Orient (XXL) as suitable for humid environments, and it cleans with a damp cloth. Plan for the evening, though: with the light on, a light-filtering shade shows the shape of anyone between the lamp and the cloth. A bathroom that faces a street or a neighbor needs a blackout layer behind it, or a blackout shade in its place.

How wide can a roller shade in TOP Orient (XXL) be?

TOP makes Orient (XXL) in rolls 240 and 300 cm (94.5 and 118 in); the 300 cm roll in some colours only. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 118 inches wide. Wider openings get two roller shades side by side, set to move together, or a split placed where a mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in Orient (XXL)?

Orient (XXL) is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see Orient (XXL) samples before ordering?

Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
