TOP Orient Blackout Color Backing Fabric
15 colourways, blackout, colour backing, 240 cm roll. TOP Window Covering fabric, made into roller shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed from Miami to Palm Beach.
The Orient blackout that shows its colour to the street, in 15 colours
Orient Blackout Color Backing is TOP Window Covering's Orient blackout with the back finished in the face colour instead of white, so a Drizzle shade reads Drizzle from the street and a Black one reads black. It is 100% polyester with an acrylic foam coating, 0.47 mm thick and 280 g/m2, on a 240 cm roll, about 94.5 inches. The 15 colours run from White, Optical White, Cream and Sand Dollar through Silver Fern, Thrush and Beach to Dark Gray, Brown and Black. It is for houses where the shade is meant to be part of the elevation rather than hidden behind it.
The decision is the facade, and it cuts both ways. A colour back lets a dark room keep a dark window, which suits tinted glass and dark frames where a white shade would show as a bright rectangle. It also means the colour you choose faces the sun: a pale back sends more of the heat back out, a dark one absorbs it at the glass. TOP publishes no optical figures for this card, so the colour itself is the guide. Its light-fastness rating of 6 to 7 is among the highest TOP gives a blackout, which matters on the side that faces the sun.
What Orient Blackout (colour backing) does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Bedrooms and media rooms in houses with tinted glass or dark frames, where a white shade would show from the street, and condos whose rules allow a coloured street side. Take Black, Dark Gray or Brown where the facade is dark; take Optical White, Cream or Sand Dollar on hard west and south glass. Choose by the facade first and the room second.
Privacy
Through the cloth it hides the room completely, by day and by night, in every colour; the colour back changes how the shade looks from outside, not what it hides. A roller leaves a narrow gap at each side, and after dark that gap outlines the shade in lamp light. Side channels or a recessed pocket deal with it.
Glare control
Nothing passes the cloth, so a television stays readable at noon and a desk loses its daylight. TOP publishes no figures for this card; all 15 colours are sold as blackout, and where they differ is in the heat a dark back holds at the glass. A low sun square to the window still glows at the side gaps unless the shade runs in channels.
Limitations
Do not choose it for a building that requires a white street side unless you pick White or Optical White, and even then show the association a sample. It gives no daylight or view, TOP lists no fire rating, and the 240 cm roll means a slider wider than about 94.5 inches becomes two shades. For a living room, put a screen on a dual roller in front of it.

Where Orient Blackout Color Backing works here
On a house in Fort Lauderdale or Coral Gables with gray-tinted glass, we would take Dark Gray or Black so the bedrooms match the facade from the street. In a condo, read the association rules first: where a white street side is required, only White and Optical White on this card show white outside, and the white-backed Orient is the simpler order. On hard west glass we steer to the paler colours, because a dark back takes the afternoon heat into the cloth.
Orient Blackout White Backing is the same width and thickness with a white back in every colour, for buildings that need a uniform street side; it has 17 colours to this card's 15.
Orient Blackout Color Backing: frequently asked
Can I pair it with a sheer Orient?
Yes. Orient Transparent shares nine colour names with this card, among them Optical White, Beach, Drizzle and Silver Fern. On a dual roller the transparent shade would hang in front for a softened view by day and the blackout behind for the night, and since both show their colour outside, the street sees one colour family whichever is down. We compare the samples together first.
Does a dark colour make the room hotter?
It makes the cloth hotter. A dark colour back absorbs most of the sun that reaches it, so the fabric warms at the glass and passes some of that warmth to the room, where a pale back reflects more of it out. TOP publishes no heat figures for this card, so we cannot put numbers on the difference. On west glass, Cream, Sand Dollar or Optical White is the safer choice.
How wide can a roller shade in TOP Orient Blackout Color Backing be?
TOP makes Orient Blackout Color Backing in a 240 cm (94.5 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 94.5 inches wide. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades side by side, set to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in Orient Blackout Color Backing?
Orient Blackout Color Backing is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Can I see Orient Blackout Color Backing samples before ordering?
Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
