TOP Orient Transparent Fabric
14 colourways, transparent, 240 cm roll. TOP Window Covering fabric, made into roller shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed from Miami to Palm Beach.
A see-through roller weave for rooms that want the view softened, not hidden
Orient Transparent is the open end of the Orient family from TOP Window Covering, the Rotterdam supplier whose cloth we buy by the roll and make up in our Fort Lauderdale workroom. TOP classes it as transparent, its most open category: pulled down, the shade lays a veil of colour over the glass and the outlook stays readable behind it. The cloth is a light, heat-set polyester on a 240 cm roll (94.5 inches), wide enough for most windows in one piece. Fourteen colours run from Optical White and Ice White through Sand Dollar and Gray Mist to Neutral Gray and Cool, for living rooms, kitchens and dining rooms where the view matters more than cover.
TOP publishes no light or solar figures for Orient Transparent, so the colour is chosen with samples against your own glass, though the physics is predictable. Neutral Gray and the deeper tones give the sharpest view out and take more of the sun's heat into the cloth; Optical White and Ice White glow brighter, send more heat back out and soften the view more. The trade-off is the evening: once the lamps are on, a transparent weave hides nothing. For bedrooms, Orient Blackout Color Backing shares several of these colour names, Beach, Drizzle and Sand Dollar among them, on the same 240 cm roll.
What Orient Transparent does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Day rooms with an outlook worth keeping and sun that is already under control: a north or east living room, a kitchen, a breakfast room, a dining room behind a covered terrace, a stair window. Choose a white or a pale neutral where the room should stay bright, a gray where the view out matters most. If the window takes direct afternoon sun or faces a neighbor, choose another fabric.
Privacy
Partial by day, none after dark. In daylight the sunlit face of the cloth outshines the room behind it, so a passer-by reads shapes and movement near the glass rather than detail, and the pale colours hide a little more than the grays. With lamps on at night the room is in full view. For bedrooms and street-facing rooms, put a blackout behind it on a dual roller.
Glare control
TOP publishes no light transmission figure, and transparent is its most open class, so treat Orient Transparent as a softener rather than glare control. It takes the edge off a bright sky and the shine off water; a television or monitor facing the window still washes out with sun on the glass. No fabric this open stops a low sun sitting square in the window.
Limitations
Do not buy it to darken a bedroom, to hide a lit room at night or to stop hard west sun: it does none of those. TOP lists no fire rating, so it is out for a hotel room or a condo common area that needs NFPA 701. Where you want daylight with privacy, a light-filtering cloth does the job, and the TOP roller fabrics include several.

Where Orient Transparent works here
We specify Orient Transparent where the sun is already handled and the outlook is worth keeping: a north or east living room, a kitchen under a deep overhang, a dining room opening onto a shaded patio, a high-floor condo window that faces open water rather than the next tower. On a west wall it softens the afternoon without taming it, so there we put a solar screen at the glass. In a whole house it takes the day rooms, with a blackout in the same colour name in the bedrooms.
The light-filtering Orient (XXL) hides the room by day where Orient Transparent keeps the view, and it comes in a much longer colour card, some colours on a wider roll.
Orient Transparent: frequently asked
Is Orient Transparent a solar screen?
No. A solar screen is woven to a published openness factor to cut glare and heat while keeping the view, and those figures are the reason to buy one. TOP publishes no openness or solar figures for Orient Transparent, which is a weave for softening daylight rather than controlling it. On glass that takes direct afternoon sun, we specify a solar screen instead.
Can Orient Transparent go in a bathroom?
TOP lists it as suitable for humid environments, so steam is not the problem; privacy is. A transparent weave softens the view by day and shows a lit bathroom at night. It suits a bathroom window that is frosted, set high or faces nothing, and for any bathroom window someone can see into we would choose a light-filtering fabric or add a blackout layer.
Can it match pleated shades elsewhere in the house?
Yes. Orient Transparent Pleated carries the same fourteen colour names, and the same item numbers with a pleated suffix, so a slider can take a roller and a small window a pleated shade in the same Drizzle or Sand Dollar. TOP sells them as separate products, so we compare the two samples side by side before ordering a mixed set.
How wide can a roller shade in TOP Orient Transparent be?
TOP makes Orient Transparent in a 240 cm (94.5 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 94.5 inches wide. Wider openings get two roller shades side by side, set to move together, or a split placed where a mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in Orient Transparent?
Orient Transparent is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Can I see Orient Transparent samples before ordering?
Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
