Four grays from White to Dark Gray in a see-through roller on a 300 cm roll

Palermo Transparent is a see-through roller fabric from TOP Window Covering in a short, even gray scale: White, Light Gray, Mid Gray and Dark Gray. The weave has a fine, quiet texture, so on the window it reads as a plain field of tone with the outlook visible behind it, which suits a pared-back room where the shade should not draw the eye. The polyester carries an acrylic foam coating and comes on a 300 cm roll (118 inches), so many sliders take a single shade. TOP classes it as transparent.

The four colours behave very differently, and the figures show it. White passes Tv 40.9 and reflects 48.6 percent of the sun's energy, so it keeps the room bright and sends heat back through the glass. Dark Gray passes 17.8, gives the clearest view out of the four, and reflects only 11.6 percent while absorbing 70.1, which makes it a warm cloth on a sunny window. Mid Gray and Light Gray sit between them. TOP rates the colours 6-7 for fastness to light and lists the fabric for humid rooms.

Best Use & Limits

What Palermo Transparent does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

Wide windows and sliders up to 118 inches in rooms that want daylight and the view with a calm, single-tone shade: a living room, a kitchen, a home office. White or Light Gray where the sun reaches the glass, Mid Gray as the balance, Dark Gray where a balcony or an overhang shades the window. For a sunny room with a view, the decision is Light Gray.

Privacy

By day it softens rather than hides: shapes near the glass read from outside, most clearly through Dark Gray and least through White. With lamps on after dark, the room is in view. Bedrooms and ground-floor rooms on a street need a second layer, which the Palermo blackout provides behind it on a dual roller.

Glare control

Dark Gray, at Tv 17.8, takes a bright sky down furthest while keeping the outlook sharp; White at 40.9 glows on a sunny window. A monitor or a television facing the glass copes in soft daylight and loses to direct sun. As with every open weave, a low sun in line with the window shows straight through.

Limitations

Dark Gray absorbs 70.1 percent of the sun's energy, so on unshaded west glass it becomes a warm panel at the window; choose White or Light Gray there. Four grays is the whole card, so a warm scheme goes elsewhere. It will not darken a room, and TOP lists no fire rating. For real heat control, take a solar screen.

South Florida

Where Palermo Transparent works here

Palermo works on wide glass in a contemporary condo or a renovated house: a living room slider facing the Intracoastal, a run of kitchen windows, a home office looking onto a garden. White or Light Gray on anything that takes direct sun; Dark Gray only where a balcony or an overhang already breaks the sun, because of the heat it holds. In the bedrooms, the same four grays come as a blackout for the layer behind.

Palermo Blackout White Backing takes the same four colour names to full blackout on the same 300 cm roll, which makes it the partner to choose on a dual roller.

Good to Know

Palermo Transparent: frequently asked

Can Palermo Transparent go in a bathroom?

TOP lists it as suitable for humid environments, so moisture is not the issue; privacy is. A transparent weave shows a lit bathroom to anyone outside at night. On a bathroom window that faces nothing it works well, and anywhere else we would put the Palermo blackout behind it on a dual roller or choose a light-filtering cloth.

How wide can a roller shade in TOP Palermo Transparent be?

TOP makes Palermo Transparent in a 300 cm (118 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 118 inches wide. Wider openings get two roller shades side by side, set to move together, or a split placed where a mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in Palermo Transparent?

Palermo Transparent is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Can I see Palermo Transparent samples before ordering?

Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
