TOP Orient Blackout White Backing Fabric
17 colourways, blackout, white backing, 240 cm roll. TOP Window Covering fabric, made into roller shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed from Miami to Palm Beach.
A thin white-backed blackout for bedrooms and nurseries, in 17 colours
Orient Blackout White Backing is the blackout in TOP Window Covering's Orient family, 100% polyester with an acrylic coating, 0.47 mm thick and 300 g/m2. That makes it one of the thinnest and lightest of TOP's blackout rollers, and it rolls up small. The 17 colours run from White, Ivory and Vanilla through Sand, Soft Beige and Nougat to Eucalypt, Oil Green, Light Blue, Terracotta and Dark Blue, with a white back on every one. Inside it reads as a plain panel of colour; from the street, as a white shade. It is for bedrooms, nurseries and guest rooms on standard-size windows.
It answers two questions at once. The white back lets a bedroom be Eucalypt or Terracotta without its window looking any different from the rest of the building, and the colour you choose never faces the sun. TOP rates its light-fastness at 6 to 7, among the highest of its blackouts, and shows GREENGUARD Gold, REACH, OEKO-TEX and RoHS logos for it. TOP publishes no optical figures for Orient, so there are no light or heat numbers to compare. The trade-off is the roll: 240 cm, about 94.5 inches, so a wide slider takes two shades where a wider cloth would cover it in one.
What Orient Blackout (white backing) does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Bedrooms, nurseries and guest rooms on standard windows, in a building where every window should read white from outside. The thin cloth earns its place on tall windows and in shallow pockets, where a thick blackout would not roll away neatly. For a slider wider than the roll, plan two shades on one headrail or a wider white-backed card. Where a small roll and a white facade both matter, choose this one.
Privacy
The cloth covers the room at any hour, which is what TOP's blackout class means, though TOP publishes no transmission figure for Orient. What a passer-by sees after dark is the gap: a narrow strip of lamp light down each side of the shade, saying the room is in use without showing anything in it. Side channels close those strips.
Glare control
Down, it takes away the sun, the sky and the glare together, which suits a television wall or a nursery at nap time and leaves a desk to its lamps. With no published figures, the blackout class is the guide. The side gaps matter most when a low east or west sun lines up with the window; for daylight without glare, the layer to add in front is a solar screen.
Limitations
It gives no daylight and no view, and TOP lists no fire rating, so a condo lobby or a hotel room needs Orient FR Blackout White Backing, which repeats five of this card's item numbers with FR added. The 240 cm roll is the other limit: past about 94.5 inches the opening takes two shades, because a seam would show as a line of light.

Where Orient Blackout White Backing works here
We would put Orient Blackout White Backing on the bedroom windows of a Brickell or Fort Lauderdale condo where the association wants white at the glass, and on the standard windows of a house whose larger openings take a wider cloth. Because it rolls small, it suits a tall window or a shallow recessed pocket. On a Lutron or Somfy motor, running in side channels, it takes a bedroom facing the morning sun over the Intracoastal to dark.
Orient Blackout Color Backing is the same width and thickness with the back in the face colour, so the shade shows its colour outside; it comes in 15 colours to this card's 17.
Orient Blackout White Backing: frequently asked
White backing or Color Backing: which Orient blackout should I choose?
Choose by what the building should see. This white-backed version shows a white shade from outside whatever the room colour, which suits a condo with a uniform-facade rule and keeps a white surface toward the sun. Orient Blackout Color Backing carries the face colour through to the back, so a Dark Gray shade reads dark from the street. Both come on the 240 cm roll.
Is it a good choice for a nursery?
It is a sensible one. TOP shows the GREENGUARD Gold logo for it, the low-emission certificate some parents ask about, along with REACH, OEKO-TEX and RoHS, and lists it for humid rooms. We would motorize it rather than hang a chain where a child can reach, and add side channels if naps have to happen in real dark.
Is there a light-filtering Orient to go with it?
Yes. Orient (XXL) is the light-filtering roller of the family, and ten colour names appear on both cards, among them Sand, Nougat, Terracotta and Dark Blue. On a dual roller we would put Orient (XXL) in front for daylight with privacy and this blackout behind for the night. They are different cloths, so we hold the two samples together before ordering.
How wide can a roller shade in TOP Orient Blackout White Backing be?
TOP makes Orient Blackout White Backing in a 240 cm (94.5 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 94.5 inches wide. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades side by side, set to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in Orient Blackout White Backing?
Orient Blackout White Backing is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Can I see Orient Blackout White Backing samples before ordering?
Yes. Shortlist the colours here and we bring TOP samples of them to the in-home consultation, so you can hold them against your own glass in your own light. Our Fort Lauderdale workroom (4539 Powerline Rd, by appointment) and Miami Beach showroom (500 South Pointe Dr #150) have motorized shades running if you want to see one move.
