The fire-listed Coulisse blackout with every Crestron hembarTier 2
Cosima is one of two Coulisse blackouts in Crestron's Designer Collection: 100% polyester, 110 inches wide, Tier 2 and dual sided. Crestron's Fabric Information Guide lists it fire retardant, which its sibling Dilanna is not, and that makes it the Coulisse blackout for a condo association or a hospitality-style specification that asks for the listing on a polyester cloth. Nothing passes through the fabric, so the questions that matter on it are the edges and the colour, and the second is easier than usual because both faces are the same. We cut Coulisse cloths in our own Fort Lauderdale workroom for other systems, so the family is familiar to us outside the Crestron programme.
Six colourways, in Crestron's code order: White, Shell, Sesame, Chanterelle, Sand and Mist. Crestron offers all four hembars on Cosima, including the Designer Half-Wrap wrapped in the shade's own fabric with no weld line, and lists it seamable but not railroaded: a shade wider than 110 inches is made with a vertical seam or, as we usually prefer on a blackout, as two shades on one line split at a mullion. Dual sided, it is a Coulisse blackout that can hang on Crestron's Decor hardware, where there is no fascia and the back of the roll faces the room. Like every fabric here it arrives as a finished Crestron shade, configured in the Design Tool with its motor and hardware.
Woven by Coulisse.
What Cosima does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Bedrooms, and especially the ones where the air runs damp: a pool-house guest room, a cabana suite, an apartment left closed through the humid months while its owners are north. Crestron lists Cosima mould and bacteria resistant, which it does not do for Dilanna, and in those rooms that settles the choice. White or Shell for a white room, Sand or Sesame against warmer walls, Mist against grey ones.
Privacy
Complete in both directions: nothing reads through the cloth by day, and after dark a lamp beside it shows nothing to the street. What escapes on an inside mount is a line of light at each side and under the hembar, which tells a passer-by the room is lit and nothing more. Side channels with the Exposed Blackout hembar close it; an outside mount that laps the frame narrows it.
Glare control
None through the cloth: with Cosima down, an east-facing bedroom stays dark at sunrise in June, apart from what the edges let in. The trade is total, so it is the wrong shade for a room that wants its view and its light by day, where glare belongs to a solar screen and Cosima waits behind it on a dual roller for the night.
Limitations
No view and no daylight while it is down, and the sun's heat is held at the glass. Crestron publishes no Ts, Rs or As for Cosima, so where an energy model or an association submission needs heat figures, choose among the Phifer blackouts, which publish them for part of their cards. Crestron's full-blackout detail takes the Exposed Blackout hembar, so a channelled shade gives up the Designer Half-Wrap.
Cosima colourways
6 colours. Up to 110 in wide; Crestron Tier 2; dual sided; fire retardant; woven by Coulisse.
Composition, ratings, certifications, hembar options and cleaning are from Crestron's Fabric Information Guide, revision 3.23.26.
Colourways
Every Cosima colourway, with Crestron's published figures
Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.

Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Where Cosima works here
Cosima goes into the bedrooms and nurseries of a Boca Raton or Fort Lauderdale house, where 110 inches covers a 9-foot slider in one piece, and into the condo bedroom whose association wants a fire listing on file before a shade goes in. Behind a solar screen it is the night setting; alone, in a nursery, it is the shade that is down at one in the afternoon. Where the room has to be dark to the edges we add Crestron's side channels and the Exposed Blackout hembar.
Cosima is the fire-listed Coulisse blackout with all four hembars; Dilanna is the sibling that railroads and carries Black, Indigo and Aubergine, and the Phifer SheerWeave 7500, 7400 and 7001 are the 116-inch polyesters with published solar figures.
Cosima: frequently asked
Cosima or Dilanna?
Cosima when the specification wants a fire listing or the Designer Half-Wrap hembar. Dilanna when the shade has to be wider than 110 inches in one piece, since Crestron railroads Dilanna and not Cosima, or when the scheme wants Black, Indigo or Aubergine, which are on Dilanna's card and not this one. Both are 100% polyester, 110 inches, Tier 2, dual sided and seamable, and both take the same motors, hardware and channels.
Is Cosima suitable for a nursery?
It is the Coulisse blackout we would put there. Crestron's guide lists it OEKO-TEX certified, PVC free, lead free and mould and bacteria resistant, with the fire listing on top, and it is cleaned with a damp cloth. The shade itself is the usual nursery detail: an inside mount with side channels and the Exposed Blackout hembar Crestron pairs with them, so the room is dark for the afternoon nap, and a motor on the room's scenes so nobody reaches over the cot.
What does a Crestron shade in Cosima cost?
Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 2. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 2 fabric at $1,000 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,300 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,600 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation. Options, the control system, wiring and installation are on top; we quote the finished shade at the measure.
How wide can a Crestron shade in Cosima be?
Crestron lists a usable roll width of 110 inches for Cosima; it is not railroaded, so an opening wider than the roll takes two shades side by side, coupled on one bracket with the light gap set at a mullion. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.
