Crestron Blackout Fabrics
83 colourways in 11 designs: nothing through the cloth, then the side channels and the exposed blackout hembar that finish the job.
Nothing through the cloth, and then the edges
A blackout roller fabric passes no light through the material, and Crestron's own instruction is to add side channels and the Exposed Blackout hembar when the room has to be completely dark, because the cloth is the easy half. Three of the designs here are Phifer's: SheerWeave 7500, 100% polyester with an acrylic coating, 116 inches wide, dual sided, in Tier 2; SheerWeave 7001, 100% polyester, 116 inches, railroaded and seamed where the other two are not, in Tier 3 with all four hembars; and SheerWeave 7400, polyester with an acrylic foamed backing, 116 inches, dual sided, Tier 2, also on all four hembars and sharing its colour names with the light-filtering SheerWeave 7450. Flocke is Mermet's, 42% fiberglass and 51% acrylic with a cotton flocked back, 93 inches, Tier 4, in the same names as Vizela.
The rest are Coulisse, all 100% polyester and PVC free. Five are the night halves of matched pairs, made under the same colour names as a light-filtering or sheer twin: Bella, 98 inches, railroaded, in Tier 2; Mika, 116 inches, dual sided, in Tier 1; Nava, 98 inches, dual sided, Tier 2; Merinda, 118 inches, dual sided, Tier 3, with all four hembars; and Harika, dual sided at 108 to 110 inches, in Tier 3 beside its 15% sheer. Cosima and Dilanna stand alone, both 110 inches and dual sided in Tier 2, Cosima listed fire retardant with all four hembars and Dilanna railroaded and seamed. Which one is right is decided by the width of the opening, the colour of the daytime shade in front of it, and the paperwork the building asks for.

How dark is dark: the cloth, the edges and the layer in front
The cloth
Every colourway here is opaque, and where Crestron publishes the solar figures the transmittance is 0: SheerWeave 7001 White and Cocoa reflect 71%, SheerWeave 7500 Ice and Midnight 68%, SheerWeave 7400 Cotton 64%, Flocke Blanc 75% and Flocke Loutre 28%. What the street sees is the other question, and Crestron lists SheerWeave 7500 and 7400, Mika, Nava, Merinda, Harika, Cosima, Dilanna and Flocke as dual sided.
The edges
A roller inside the frame leaves a gap at each side, and the gap is what wakes people at six on an east wall. Crestron's answer is its blackout hardware: U-channels at the sides, an H-channel between two shades, a sill angle at the bottom, and the Exposed Blackout hembar made to run in them. Where the depth will not take a channel, an outside mount that overlaps the opening closes most of the gap.
The hembar
Every blackout here takes the Exposed Blackout hembar, the rail made for blackout shades and side channels. SheerWeave 7001 and 7400, Merinda, Cosima and Flocke are listed for all four Crestron hembars, so a blackout that hangs in the open rather than in channels can carry the Designer Half-Wrap, wrapped in its own cloth with no weld line; the others take the Open or the Sealed Pocket instead.
The layer in front
Most of the bedrooms we do run a daytime shade in front of the blackout on one bracket, a dual roller. The Crestron twins exist for that: Bella, Mika, Nava and Merinda keep one colour name in light-filtering and blackout, Harika in sheer and blackout, SheerWeave 7400 matches 7450 and Flocke matches Vizela, so the two layers agree in colour by day and by night.
Which blackout for which room
For a primary bedroom on the water the width of the slider decides first. SheerWeave 7500, 7001 and 7400 and Mika roll 116 inches, Merinda 118, Cosima and Dilanna 110, Harika 108 to 110, Bella and Nava 98, Flocke 93. Beyond the roll, Crestron allows Bella, Dilanna, SheerWeave 7001 and Flocke to be railroaded, which on a blackout means a shade wider than the roll with a seam if it is also taller than the roll width; Mika, Nava, Harika and Cosima may be seamed but not railroaded; SheerWeave 7500 and 7400 and Merinda may be neither, so a wide opening in those is two shades on one line, which we align at a mullion and programme to move together.
Then the paperwork and the tier. Crestron lists SheerWeave 7500, 7001 and 7400, Cosima and Flocke as fire retardant, which a condo association, a hotel brand or a commercial specification may require; Bella, Mika, Nava, Merinda, Harika and Dilanna carry no fire listing in the guide. Mika is the Tier 1 blackout; Bella, Nava, Cosima, Dilanna, SheerWeave 7500 and 7400 are Tier 2; Merinda, Harika and SheerWeave 7001 Tier 3; Flocke Tier 4. The cloth is chosen in ten minutes at the consultation. The edges take the measure, and they are what the client notices on the first bright morning, which is why we detail channels and mounts before we talk about colour.

Crestron's budgetary guide for these fabrics
The blackout on this page sit in Crestron price Tier 1 and Tier 2 and Tier 3 and Tier 4. This is Crestron's own guide for one motorized shade, by tier and size.
| Shade size | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 ft wide x 5 ft high | $900 | $1,000 | $1,200 | $1,400 |
| 5 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,100 | $1,300 | $1,600 | $2,200 |
| 10 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,400 | $1,600 | $2,000 | $3,200 |
Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Blackout on our installations
Our published Crestron homes run other shade brands inside Crestron control, Lutron Sivoia QS at the Ritz-Carlton Residences in Sunny Isles and Somfy through a TaHoma switch at Salato in Pompano Beach, and the bedroom detail does not change with the motor: a light colour to the glass, side channels where the pocket depth allows, an overlapping outside mount where it does not, and a solar screen in front on a dual bracket so the room has a day setting. On a Crestron shade the channels and the Exposed Blackout hembar come from Crestron's own Architectural hardware, specified with the fabric in the same order, and the shade is commissioned into the bedroom scene with the integrator.
Blackout: frequently asked
Will a Crestron blackout make the bedroom completely dark?
The cloth will; the edges are the question. Every colourway on this page is opaque, and Crestron itself says that a complete blackout needs side channels and the Exposed Blackout hembar as well as the fabric. A shade in Crestron's U-channels, or an outside mount that overlaps the frame generously, gets a bedroom to sleep-dark; a plain inside mount leaves a line of light at each side. We show both at the measure and channel the rooms that have to be dark.
Which Crestron blackouts are fire rated?
SheerWeave 7500, 7001 and 7400, Cosima and Flocke are listed fire retardant in Crestron's Fabric Information Guide; Bella, Mika, Nava, Merinda, Harika and Dilanna are not. For a condo association, a hotel or a commercial specification that asks for a listing, the Phifer three cover most widths at 116 inches and Cosima at 110; Flocke, at 93 inches and Tier 4, is the fiberglass option, in the same colour names as Vizela.
Can a blackout match my daytime shade?
By name, on the twins: Bella, Mika, Nava and Merinda are made in light-filtering and blackout under the same colour names, Harika in sheer and blackout, SheerWeave 7400 in the same names as the light-filtering SheerWeave 7450, and Flocke in the same names as Vizela, so a dual roller carries one colour by day and by night. Against a solar screen the match is by eye: the blackout sits behind the screen and only shows after dark, so a white or a sand behind a white or pearl screen is the usual answer.
How wide can a Crestron blackout be in one piece?
As wide as the roll: 118 inches on Merinda, 116 on SheerWeave 7500, 7001 and 7400 and on Mika, 110 on Cosima, Dilanna and Harika's Anthracite, 108 on the other Harika colours, 98 on Bella and Nava, 93 on Flocke. Crestron allows Bella, Dilanna, SheerWeave 7001 and Flocke to be railroaded past that, with a seam if the shade is also taller than the roll width; on a blackout a seam shows in daylight, so we always show the alternative of two shades on one line before deciding.
What does dual sided mean on a blackout?
That the fabric has the same appearance on both sides, which Crestron flags on SheerWeave 7500 and 7400, Mika, Nava, Merinda, Harika, Cosima, Dilanna and Flocke, and not on SheerWeave 7001 or Bella. It matters in two places: on Decor hardware, where the back of the roll faces the room, and from the street, where a building may want every window to read the same. It says nothing about how dark the room gets; every fabric on this page is opaque.
Do blackout shades help with heat?
The light colours do, where Crestron publishes the figure: SheerWeave 7001 White and Cocoa reflect 71% of the solar energy, SheerWeave 7500 Ice and Midnight 68%, SheerWeave 7400 Cotton 64% and Flocke Blanc 75%, against Flocke Loutre at 28%. Crestron gives no solar figures for the Coulisse blackouts. On a west-facing bedroom we favour a light colour and, for the daytime, a solar screen in front on a dual bracket, since a blackout down all afternoon is a dark room.
