Crestron Solar Screen Fabrics
292 colourways in 26 designs, from 1% to 15% openness: the view kept, the glare and the heat taken out of it, on a Crestron roller.
The view kept, the sun taken out of it
A solar screen is the weave you see through. Crestron files these as sheer and basketweave fabrics, woven so that what is outside stays visible through the openings, and rates each by its openness factor, the share of the weave that is open space: on this page from 1% to 15%. At the tight end are the vinyl-coated fiberglass screens, Mermet's E Screen and M Screen and the Phifer SheerWeave designs, with E Screen KOOLBLACK for a charcoal that reflects heat, and the coated polyester Esprit, Emma, Santos and Grant. At the open end are the Coulisse polyester sheers, Perla, Nohea, Wende, Rachel, Sena and the sheer side of Harika, which Crestron lists without solar figures and which do a different job: a soft daytime layer rather than sun control.
Every design on this page is listed below with its openness, tier, width and mill, so the choosing is what this page is for, and it goes in three steps. Openness comes from the exposure: 1% for hard west and south-west glass and any room with screens, 3% as the default on the water, 5% for view rooms under a terrace or in filtered sun, 10% only on north and shaded elevations. Colour comes from the trade between view and heat: a dark weave gives the clearest view and absorbs heat at the glass, a light one reflects heat and hazes the view. The family comes last, from the paperwork and the width: fire retardant listings, PVC free or not, roll width, railroading, and whether Crestron publishes the solar figures for it.

Openness first, then colour, then the family
1% for the hard exposures
West and south-west glass, and any room where a screen faces the window. E Screen 1%, SheerWeave 2500 and the dual-sided SheerWeave 2701 are the fiberglass answers, Esprit 1% the Tier 1 one, and E Screen KOOLBLACK 1% the charcoal that sends heat back out, in Tier 4. SheerWeave 2500 Charcoal transmits 1% of the solar energy and reflects 4%; the rest is absorbed at the glass.
3% as the default on the water
The living room on the Intracoastal or the ocean, where the view is the point. E Screen 3%, M Screen 3%, SheerWeave 2410, 2703, 4600 and 8000 and Esprit 3% cover it in fiberglass and polyester; Perla, Nohea and Santos are the 3% weaves from the decorative side; E Screen KOOLBLACK 3% is the charcoal choice, in Tier 3.
5% and 6% under cover
View rooms under a deep terrace, or glass that only ever gets filtered sun. E Screen 5%, the weave on Trump Tower III, M Screen 5%, SheerWeave 2390, 2705, 4500 and Infinity 2, Esprit 5%, Emma and Grant sit at 5%, with Wende at 5% and Rachel at 6% among the sheers. E Screen White/White at 5% transmits 20% of the solar energy and reflects 71%.
10% and beyond, shaded sides only
E Screen 10%, Esprit 10%, SheerWeave 2360 and 2710 are for north and shaded elevations, never a west wall: E Screen White/White at 10% passes 25% of the solar energy. Sena at 11% and the sheer Harika at 15% are decorative sheers; they belong in front of a blackout on a dual roller, not on their own against the sun.
Colour: dark for the view, light for the heat
The figures make the trade plain. E Screen Charcoal/Charcoal at 3% transmits 4% of the solar energy, reflects 5% and absorbs 91% at the glass; White/White at 3% transmits 16% and reflects 73%. E Screen KOOLBLACK Charcoal/Charcoal at 3% reflects 34%, which is the whole point of that family: the charcoal view without the charcoal heat.
Which family, once the openness is set
The vinyl-coated fiberglass screens are the ones with the most paper behind them. E Screen and M Screen are 36% fiberglass and 64% vinyl, 120 inches wide, listed fire retardant and GREENGUARD certified, allowed to be railroaded and seamed, and offered with all four Crestron hembars; E Screen carries its colours through 1%, 3%, 5% and 10% and M Screen through 3% and 5%, so one colour can run the whole floor with only the weave changing. The Phifer SheerWeave screens work the other way, one design per openness with the same colour card across SheerWeave 2500, 2410, 2390 and 2360 and across the dual-sided twills 2701, 2703, 2705 and 2710, 124 inches wide, with 2701, 2703 and 2705 also on all four hembars. Crestron's care note applies to all of them: PVC-coated fiberglass yarns can fray a little at a cut edge over time, and the fix is a pair of scissors.
The polyester and coated-polyester weaves trade some of that for other things. Esprit, at 70% PVC and 30% polyester, is the Tier 1 screen, 118 inches, fire retardant, railroaded and seamed like the fiberglass, in 1%, 3%, 5% and 10%; Grant is the same construction at 5%, in the same Heritage book. Emma and Santos are 80% PVC and 20% polyester, neither listed fire retardant. SheerWeave 4500 and 4600 are vinyl on polyester, SheerWeave 8000 is 100% polyester and SheerWeave Infinity 2 is 100% TPO, the last two PVC free, and Infinity 2 rolls only 96 inches with no railroading or seam. The Coulisse sheers, Perla, Sena, Rachel, Wende, Nohea and Harika, are 100% polyester and PVC free, and Crestron publishes no solar figures for them or for Grant, so they are chosen by holding the sample to the glass, which is what the consultation is for.

Crestron's budgetary guide for these fabrics
The solar screens on this page sit in Crestron price Tier 1 and Tier 2 and Tier 3 and Tier 4. This is Crestron's own guide for one motorized shade, by tier and size.
| Shade size | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 ft wide x 5 ft high | $900 | $1,000 | $1,200 | $1,400 |
| 5 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,100 | $1,300 | $1,600 | $2,200 |
| 10 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,400 | $1,600 | $2,000 | $3,200 |
Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Solar screens on our installations
The one Crestron solar screen we have published is Trump Tower III in Sunny Isles Beach: Crestron Digital QMT roller shades in E Screen 5% White/White, recessed in ceiling pockets throughout the living spaces and commissioned into the residence's existing Control4 system with the home's AV partner. The same weaves go onto Lutron and Somfy rollers from our own workroom all along the coast, and the specification does not change with the motor: 3% on the open water, 5% under a terrace, 1% on a west wall, charcoal where the view matters most and a white or a pearl where the heat does. Bring the exposure and we bring the E Screen, SheerWeave and Coulisse books.
Solar screens: frequently asked
Which openness should I choose for a west-facing living room?
1%. Afternoon sun on a west wall in South Florida is the hardest case in the house, and the tighter weave is what keeps the room usable at four o'clock: E Screen 1%, SheerWeave 2500 or 2701, or E Screen KOOLBLACK 1% if the client wants charcoal without the heat. Only when the glass sits under a deep terrace, with the sun filtered before it arrives, do we move to 5%. Nothing on this page removes a low sun sitting square in the window; for that hour a dual roller with a blackout behind is the answer.
Do solar screens give privacy?
In daylight, roughly in proportion to how tight the weave is and how pale its face: a white 1% veils the room well from the street, a charcoal 10% very little. After dark, none at all, in any colour at any openness; Crestron's design guide says so plainly, and a lit room reads from outside through the weave. Where a bedroom or a bathroom faces a neighbour, the daytime screen goes in front of a light-filtering or blackout layer on a dual roller, or the room takes a light-filtering weave outright.
Which Crestron solar screens are PVC free?
SheerWeave Infinity 2, which is 100% TPO, SheerWeave 8000 in 100% polyester, and the Coulisse sheers Perla, Sena, Rachel, Wende, Nohea and Harika in 100% polyester. Everything else on this page is vinyl-coated fiberglass, vinyl on polyester or PVC-coated polyester. The PVC-free weaves give up some width, Infinity 2 rolls 96 inches and Sena 94, and Infinity 2 can be neither railroaded nor seamed, so a wide slider in one of them is two shades on one line.
E Screen or SheerWeave 2500: what is the difference?
Both are vinyl-coated fiberglass, fire retardant, GREENGUARD certified, Tier 2, and made to be railroaded or seamed. E Screen is 36% fiberglass and 64% vinyl, 120 inches wide, and carries its colours through 1%, 3%, 5% and 10% in one design with all four Crestron hembars; SheerWeave 2500 is 37% fiberglass and 63% vinyl, 124 inches, at 1% only, with its 3%, 5% and 10% siblings as SheerWeave 2410, 2390 and 2360, and takes the Open, Sealed or Exposed hembar. The cards differ too: E Screen pairs charcoals, pearls and whites, SheerWeave charcoals, oysters and beiges.
What does E Screen KOOLBLACK add?
A charcoal that reflects instead of absorbing. Crestron's figures put the KOOLBLACK charcoals at 34% to 40% solar reflectance where the same colours in plain E Screen at the same openness sit between 4% and 18%, with Tv from 2% to 7% across the card. It comes in 1% and 3% only, in charcoal pairings only, 116 inches wide at 1% and 120 at 3%, cannot be railroaded or seamed, and sits in Tier 3 at 3% and Tier 4 at 1%. It is the answer when a client wants charcoal on hot glass and the room behind it kept cool.
Are the Coulisse sheers really solar screens?
Crestron lists them as sheers rather than basketweaves, and they behave differently. Perla and Nohea at 3%, Wende at 5%, Rachel at 6%, Sena at 11% and Harika at 15% are 100% polyester weaves with no published solar figures, so nobody can tell you what they do to heat; what they do is soften the light and dress the window. We put them where a sheer drapery would have gone, a dining room or a living room on a shaded side, usually in front of a blackout on a dual roller, and never on a hard west wall.
