The 5% weave for view rooms under a terrace or in filtered sunTier 2
SheerWeave 2390 is the 5% step of the Phifer 2500 family, the weave for a room that is about the view and gets its sun filtered: through the terrace of the floor above, a tree line, the building next door. It is a vinyl-coated fiberglass basketweave, 124 inches wide in all eleven colourways and Tier 2 like the rest of the family, so moving between 2360, 2390, 2410 and 2500 changes the weave and nothing on the budget grid on this page. Visible transmittance runs 5% to 16% across the card, the band where the water still reads sharp through the fabric and a bright afternoon is taken down a step rather than shut out.
The card pairs every base with a companion, and the figures show what each pairing does. Charcoal on its own transmits 4% of the solar energy and reflects 4%; Charcoal/Alpaca keeps the dark face but reflects 18%. Oyster transmits 21% and reflects 61%; Oyster/Beige and Oyster/Pearl Grey step that down to 17% and 14% transmitted. Beige and Beige/Pearl Gray repeat the pattern at 14% and 11%, Pearl Gray stands alone at 10% transmitted and 31% reflected, and Brilliant/White is the brightest and coolest colourway at 22% transmitted and 67% reflected. The mill's page for the family is Phifer SheerWeave 2500, 2410, 2390 and 2360, where the optical and fire data lives in full.
Woven by Phifer; the mill's full data is on our Phifer SheerWeave 2500 series page.
What SheerWeave 2390 does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
A view room whose sun arrives filtered: under a terrace, behind a tree line, on the Intracoastal side of a house that faces east. Not a media room, and not glass that takes the afternoon straight on. Pearl Gray or Oyster/Pearl Grey for a pale room on a shaded elevation, Charcoal/Chestnut or Charcoal/Grey where the water is the reason for the window. Where the sun hits directly, 2410 or 2500 in the same name.
Privacy
Daytime cover in proportion to how pale the face is, none after dark. In daylight the room is dimmer than the street, so a 5% weave hides most of it from a passer-by, more in Brilliant/White than in Charcoal, though anyone at the glass sees in. With the lights on at night the weave is a lit window from outside. A bedroom pairs it with a light-filtering or blackout layer on a dual roller.
Glare control
Enough for a bright living room whose sun is indirect, not enough for a television once the sun swings round. With a screen in the room, choose the darkest colourway the scheme allows, Charcoal/Chestnut at 6% of solar energy transmitted or Charcoal/Grey at 5%, or drop to 2410. A pale colourway at this openness lights up in the sun rather than dimming it. No screen fabric deletes a low sun square in the window.
Limitations
Not the weave for a west wall or a media room, and it darkens nothing. Brilliant/White absorbs 11% of the solar energy and stays coolest in the sun but throws the most light into the room; Charcoal/Alpaca holds 75% at the glass and Charcoal/Chestnut 88%. Above the roll width a shade is railroaded, and Crestron asks that every shade in the room then be railroaded too. For sleep, a blackout behind.

Every SheerWeave 2390 colourway, with Crestron's published figures
Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.

The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Where SheerWeave 2390 works here
On the water we specify 2390 for rooms that sit under something: a living room beneath the terrace of the unit above, a family room behind a covered lanai, an east-facing breakfast room in a Fort Lauderdale beach tower. It is also our first choice on the Intracoastal side of a house, where the light comes off the water without the afternoon behind it. We hold one name across the floor and drop to SheerWeave 2410 on the open glass, so the colour holds and only the weave changes.
SheerWeave 2390 is the 5% weave of the Phifer card that 2360 opens to 10% and 2410 and 2500 close to 3% and 1%; SheerWeave 2705 is the dual-sided twill at the same 5%, and E Screen and M Screen are the Mermet basketweaves Crestron stocks at 5%.
SheerWeave 2390: frequently asked
Can 2390 be the fabric for the whole floor?
On the shaded and view sides, yes; on the west and south-west glass we would rather change the weave than the colour. The eleven names on this page repeat exactly on 2360, 2410 and 2500, so a living room can run 2390 and the office on the west corner 2500 in the same Charcoal/Grey or Oyster, all of it in Tier 2. The one case where we leave 2390 everywhere is a north or east tower unit with no afternoon exposure at all.
SheerWeave 2390 or 2705: which 5% weave?
Same mill, same 124 inches, same tier, same 5%. What differs is the construction, the card and the hembar. SheerWeave 2705 is the dual-sided twill with a Charcoal and Oyster card, and Crestron offers it with all four hembars, the Designer Half-Wrap included. 2390 is the plain basketweave with Beige, Brilliant/White and Pearl Gray in the card as well, on the Open Pocket, Sealed Pocket and Exposed Blackout hembars. Choose 2705 where the back of the shade shows or a wrapped bar is wanted, 2390 for the wider card.
Which colourway keeps the view sharpest at 5%?
Charcoal, then Charcoal/Chestnut and Charcoal/Grey. A dark yarn gives the clearest view through any solar screen, and it does so by absorbing rather than reflecting the sun, so the fabric warms on glass that gets direct light. Charcoal/Alpaca gives some of that energy back and keeps most of the clarity; it is our usual compromise on a wall that sees an hour or two of afternoon. The pale colourways reflect more heat and put a haze over the view.
What does a Crestron shade in SheerWeave 2390 cost?
Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 2. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 2 fabric at $1,000 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,300 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,600 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation. Options, the control system, wiring and installation are on top; we quote the finished shade at the measure.
How wide can a Crestron shade in SheerWeave 2390 be?
Crestron lists a usable roll width of 124 inches for SheerWeave 2390; the fabric can be railroaded, turned 90 degrees on the roll, so one shade can run wider than the roll as long as it is no taller than the roll width, and where it is taller Crestron joins two widths with a horizontal seam, which we line up with a mullion or a transom. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.
Is Crestron SheerWeave 2390 the same fabric as the mill's?
Crestron buys SheerWeave 2390 from Phifer and lists it under its own SKUs and price tier. The weave is the one on our Phifer SheerWeave 2500 series page, where the mill's full optical and fire data lives; Crestron's page here shows the colourways and openness Crestron actually stocks for its shades.
