Crestron E Screen Fabric
44 colourways, basketweave, openness 1%, 3%, 5%, 10%, Crestron Tier 2. Every swatch and every figure Crestron publishes, from the Crestron-certified team in Fort Lauderdale that specifies and installs Crestron shades from Miami to Palm Beach.
The Crestron solar screen we specify first, at four openness factorsTier 2
E Screen is the fabric we specify first for a Crestron roller shade. It is a basketweave of vinyl-coated fiberglass yarn that Crestron stocks at 1%, 3%, 5% and 10% openness, so one cloth can be tuned window by window: tight where the sun is hard, more open where the view matters and the glass is already shaded. It is a solar screen in Crestron's own sense of the word, a weave the eye passes through to the outside while it takes out the glare and much of the solar heat, and it is not a privacy fabric after dark. Crestron files it in the Heritage Collection at Tier 2, the second column of the budget grid on this page.
The card is eleven colours, each woven at all four openness factors, 44 colourways in all. Five pair Charcoal with Apricot, Charcoal, Cocoa, Gray-Stone or Grey; three pair Pearl with Grey, Linen or Pearl; three pair White with Linen, Pearl or White. The colour decides what the shade does with the sun as much as the weave does. White/White at 5% openness reflects 71% of the solar energy that reaches it and absorbs 9%; Charcoal/Charcoal at the same openness reflects 6% and absorbs 90%, which is the price of the clearest view on the card. The Pearl pairings sit between, reflecting 27% to 37% at that openness, for a room that wants neither a white shade nor a dark one.
Woven by Mermet; the mill's full data is on our Mermet E Screen page.
What E Screen does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
A west-facing living room gets 1% openness; a wall of sliders on the Intracoastal or the ocean gets 3% openness, the setting most Crestron floors end up on; a room under a deep terrace, 5% openness; a north-facing study or a stair, 10% openness. An office with monitors takes 1% openness whatever it faces. Where one house needs all four, this is the fabric, because the colour name holds while the weave changes.
Privacy
By day, in proportion to how tight the weave is: 1% openness hides most of a room from the street, 10% openness little, and a pale pairing veils more from outside than a charcoal because it throws daylight back at the viewer. After dark none of it holds: with a lamp on, the room reads through every colourway on the card. A bedroom takes a blackout or light-filtering layer behind it on a dual roller.
Glare control
Tight and dark is the glare setting. Crestron's visible transmittance across the card runs from 1% to 22%: at the low end a television stays watchable with the shade down, at the high end the water is crisp and a screen picks up reflection. Charcoal at 1% openness sits at the low end by every figure, White/White at 10% openness at the high end. No weave removes a low sun square in the glass.
Limitations
It darkens nothing: even the tightest weave here passes light, so a bedroom needs a second layer and a home theatre a blackout. At 10% openness enough heat and light come through that we keep it to north glass. A charcoal absorbs most of the solar energy it stops and gives some back into the room from the glass, the gap E Screen KOOLBLACK was made to close. An open weave does little for sound.

Every E Screen colourway, with Crestron's published figures
Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.
What a Crestron shade in E Screen costs
Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 2. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 2 fabric at $1,000 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,300 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,600 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation.
| Shade size | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 ft wide x 5 ft high | $900 | $1,000 | $1,200 | $1,400 |
| 5 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,100 | $1,300 | $1,600 | $2,200 |
| 10 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,400 | $1,600 | $2,000 | $3,200 |
Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Where E Screen works here
On the water we specify E Screen at 3% openness in living areas and 5% openness where a terrace already shades the glass, as at Trump Tower III, Sunny Isles Beach: Crestron Digital QMT rollers in E Screen 5% White/White in recessed ceiling pockets through the living spaces, commissioned into the residence's Control4 system with the home's AV partner. West glass drops to 1% openness; 10% openness is for north elevations only. A white pairing faces the street on a condo facade; a charcoal goes where the view matters.
E Screen is the broad card at four openness factors and Tier 2; M Screen is the same fiberglass and vinyl at 3% and 5% with more pale pairings, E Screen KOOLBLACK is the charcoals rewoven to reflect heat at Tier 3 and 4, and S Screen is a four-colour weave with a polyester yarn at 4%, Tier 3.
E Screen: frequently asked
What changes between the four openness factors in one colour?
The view, the light and the glare, and not the price. In White/White, Crestron's solar transmittance goes from 14% at 1% openness to 16% at 3%, 20% at 5% and 25% at 10%, and the reflectance slides from 75% to 66%; in Charcoal/Charcoal it goes from 1% to 12% across the same run. More open means more of the water and more sparkle on a screen. Every one of the 44 colourways is Tier 2, so the openness factor is chosen for the window, never for the budget grid.
Can E Screen and E Screen KOOLBLACK be mixed in one home?
Yes, and it is how we usually specify a house with one hot elevation. Charcoal/Apricot, Charcoal/Charcoal, Charcoal/Cocoa and Charcoal/Gray-Stone are on both cards, so the west and south-west glass can take E Screen KOOLBLACK at 1% or 3% openness and the rest of the floor plain E Screen in the same name, at the same openness or a more open one. The KOOLBLACK colourways sit in Tier 3 and 4 against Tier 2 here, and the budget grid on each page shows what that means per shade.
Can the hembar be wrapped in the fabric?
Yes. E Screen is one of the fabrics Crestron allows all four hembars on, including the Designer Half-Wrap: the weighted bottom rail wrapped in the shade's own cloth, with a flush end cap and no weld line, available up to 120 inches wide on select fabrics. On an open-roll Decor mount, where the shade is seen as an object, that is the hembar we draw first. Behind a fascia or in a pocket the Open Pocket hembar, taped inside a welded pocket with painted ends, is the quiet default.
What does a Crestron shade in E Screen cost?
Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 2. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 2 fabric at $1,000 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,300 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,600 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation. Options, the control system, wiring and installation are on top; we quote the finished shade at the measure.
How wide can a Crestron shade in E Screen be?
Crestron lists a usable roll width of 120 inches for E Screen; the fabric can be railroaded, turned 90 degrees on the roll, so one shade can run wider than the roll as long as it is no taller than the roll width, and where it is taller Crestron joins two widths with a horizontal seam, which we line up with a mullion or a transom. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.
Is Crestron E Screen the same fabric as the mill's?
Crestron buys E Screen from Mermet and lists it under its own SKUs and price tier. The weave is the one on our Mermet E Screen page, where the mill's full optical and fire data lives; Crestron's page here shows the colourways and openness Crestron actually stocks for its shades.
