Crestron Esprit Fabric
32 colourways, basketweave, openness 1%, 3%, 5%, 10%, Crestron Tier 1. Every swatch and every figure Crestron publishes, from the Crestron-certified team in Fort Lauderdale that specifies and installs Crestron shades from Miami to Palm Beach.
The Tier 1 solar screen woven at all four openness factorsTier 1
Esprit is the solar screen we start with when a Crestron project has a whole floor of glass and a budget to respect. It is a Coulisse basketweave of PVC-coated polyester, 70% PVC and 30% PES, it sits in Tier 1, the lowest column of the budget grid on this page, and it is one of only two designs in the Crestron library woven at 1%, 3%, 5% and 10% openness, the other being Mermet E Screen at Tier 2. That combination is what makes it a whole-house fabric: one colour through the home, the weave changing from elevation to elevation, and every finished Crestron shade priced from the first column.
The card is eight colours, each woven at all four openness factors, 32 colourways in all. Four are pale, Chalk, Chalk Beige Cream, Chalk Soft Grey and Beige Pearl Grey, and reflect 37% to 72% of the solar energy that reaches them, Chalk the most. Soft Grey holds the middle of the card. Three are dark, Charcoal Iron Grey, Charcoal Dark Bronze and Ebony, absorb 74% to 96% and publish a solar transmittance of 0 at 1% openness, the lowest figure any weave in this library publishes. Visible transmission runs from 1% to 27% across the card, a wider span than E Screen's 1% to 22%, so one design covers a dim media room and a bright kitchen.
Woven by Coulisse.
What Esprit does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Whole-house Crestron rollers where the fabric budget matters: a wall of sliders on the Intracoastal, a new condo, bedrooms and living room on one specification. Take the weave from the exposure: 1% openness on west and south-west glass and in any room with screens, 3% openness on the water, 5% openness under a deep terrace, 10% openness on the north side only. Pick one colour and let the openness do the work.
Privacy
By day, weave first and colour second: at 1% openness the room is hard to read from outside in any colour, at 10% openness it is not. Chalk reflects 57% to 72% of the sunlight and hides the room better from the street; Ebony reflects 4% to 5%, shows a little more and sees out more clearly. After dark nothing here covers a lit room, so a bedroom takes a blackout on a dual roller.
Glare control
The dark colourways at 1% openness answer a west-facing television room: Ebony, Charcoal Iron Grey and Charcoal Dark Bronze pass nothing measurable there, and the view through them stays clear. Chalk at 10% openness passes 30% of the solar energy and leaves a screen hard to read in direct sun. When glare is the problem go darker before you go tighter, and no weave removes a sun low and square in the window.
Limitations
It darkens nothing: even Ebony at 1% openness is a screen, and a bedroom needs a blackout shade behind it. The dark colourways absorb most of the solar energy they stop and put that heat at the glass, so on a hot west wall a pale weave keeps the room cooler while a dark one keeps the view. A railroaded shade taller than the 118-inch roll takes a seam, which we align with a mullion.
Esprit colourways
8 colours, 32 colourways. Openness 1%, 3%, 5%, 10%; up to 118 in wide; Crestron Tier 1; can be railroaded; fire retardant; woven by Coulisse.
Composition, ratings, certifications, hembar options and cleaning are from Crestron's Fabric Information Guide, revision 3.23.26.
Colourways
Every Esprit colourway, with Crestron's published figures
Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.
What a Crestron shade in Esprit costs
Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 1. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 1 fabric at $900 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,100 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,400 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation.
| Shade size | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 ft wide x 5 ft high | $900 | $1,000 | $1,200 | $1,400 |
| 5 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,100 | $1,300 | $1,600 | $2,200 |
| 10 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,400 | $1,600 | $2,000 | $3,200 |
Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Where Esprit works here
In South Florida we specify Esprit by exposure: 1% openness on west and south-west glass and in rooms with screens, 3% openness on the water, 5% openness where a terrace overhang filters the sun, 10% openness only on a north elevation, never a west wall. Chalk or Chalk Soft Grey on a white facade, Charcoal Iron Grey or Ebony where the view across the Intracoastal matters more than the heat. We cut Coulisse screens in our own workroom for other systems too, so the weave is one we know.
Esprit is the Tier 1 basketweave with the same four openness factors as E Screen, at 118 inches against 120 and eight colours against eleven; Grant is the same Coulisse construction in the same Heritage book at one openness, and Emma and Santos are the 80% PVC weaves beside them.
Esprit: frequently asked
Why is Esprit in Tier 1 when E Screen is in Tier 2, and what do you give up?
A different construction at a lower tier. Esprit is PVC-coated polyester where E Screen is vinyl-coated fiberglass, the roll is 118 inches rather than 120, and the card is eight colours rather than eleven. What you keep is what matters on the glass: the four openness factors, published solar figures for every colourway, a fire-retardant, GREENGUARD and OEKO-TEX listing in Crestron's guide, railroading, seaming and all four hembars. For a residence, its column on the budget grid on this page is the reason to look at it first.
Can one Esprit colour run through the whole house at different openness factors?
Yes, and that is the reason to choose it. Every colour on the card is woven at 1%, 3%, 5% and 10% openness, so a house can hang the 1% weave on the west, the 3% weave on the water side and the 5% or 10% weave on the shaded elevations and read as one colour from the street. The fabric book has the four weaves of each colour side by side, and we hold them against your glass at the measure.
Does Esprit take the Designer Half-Wrap hembar?
Yes. Crestron's Fabric Information Guide lists all four hembars for Esprit, including the Designer Half-Wrap, which wraps the bottom rail in the shade's own fabric with no weld line and a flush end cap. Crestron offers the Half-Wrap up to 120 inches wide on select fabrics, so on a railroaded Esprit shade wider than that we detail an Open Pocket hembar instead, with its ends painted to coordinate.
What does a Crestron shade in Esprit cost?
Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 1. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 1 fabric at $900 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,100 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,400 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation. Options, the control system, wiring and installation are on top; we quote the finished shade at the measure.
How wide can a Crestron shade in Esprit be?
Crestron lists a usable roll width of 118 inches for Esprit; the fabric can be railroaded, turned 90 degrees on the roll, so one shade can run wider than the roll as long as it is no taller than the roll width, and where it is taller Crestron joins two widths with a horizontal seam, which we line up with a mullion or a transom. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.
