Crestron Fabric Library

The PVC-free polyester sheer at 3% opennessTier 2

Perla is a Coulisse sheer at 3% openness in 100% polyester, PVC free, in the Designer book. Crestron files it as a sheer rather than a basketweave, and the difference for a buyer is the yarn: no PVC coating and no fiberglass, so the edge-fray note that Crestron attaches to its PVC-coated fiberglass screens does not apply. On the glass it behaves the way a 3% screen behaves, objects seen through the weave, glare cut, daytime cover and no privacy at night; the point of choosing it is a polyester cloth without PVC and the eight-colour card that comes with it.

The card is eight colours at one openness, so there is no ladder of weaves to climb, only a colour to choose: Blanc, Gardenia, Buff, Twill, Dove, Steel Gray, Caviar and Raven. Crestron publishes no solar figures for Perla, so the guidance on this page comes from the openness and the names rather than from Ts and Tv, and the rule still holds: a pale yarn reflects heat and hazes the view, a dark yarn absorbs heat and keeps the view sharp. It is one of the Designer book's polyester sheers and, with Nohea, one of the two woven at 3%; the other three sit further up the openness ladder.

Best Use & Limits

What Perla does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

A PVC-free brief, or a room that wants a polyester cloth rather than a coated screen: a north or east living room, a bedroom over a terrace, an office where a screen must stay readable. At 3% openness it is a water-view fabric for glass under shade and the light side of a house. Raven, Caviar or Steel Gray on a slider that takes the afternoon; Blanc or Gardenia where the room should stay bright.

Privacy

Daytime only: with sun on the glass a 3% weave hides most of a room from the street, the pale colourways more than the dark ones because they reflect more light back, the dark ones giving the clearer view out. With no transmission figures published, we judge the cover with the sample at your window. After dark a lit room shows through every colourway, and a bedroom needs a blackout layer on a dual roller.

Glare control

A 3% weave takes the sun off a screen, and the darker the yarn the more glare it absorbs: Raven and Caviar for a television wall, Steel Gray and Dove where the room should not go dim. Blanc and Gardenia leave a monitor hard to read in direct sun. Without published Tv figures we compare the shortlist on your glass at the worst hour, and no weave removes a low sun square in the window.

Limitations

No darkening and no privacy after dark, as with every 3% weave. No tighter option: Perla is woven at 3% openness only, so a west wall that needs a 1% weave goes to Esprit or E Screen. It is not railroaded, so a shade wider than 116 inches carries a seam at a mullion. It publishes no solar figures, so where a submission needs Ts, Rs, As or Tv, choose a design that carries them.

Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.

The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).

Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.

Where Perla works here

Perla is the sheer we specify where the specification says no PVC, or where the designer wants a polyester cloth to match the draperies: a Brickell condo with a north or east exposure, a primary bedroom over a terrace, an office with a screen to keep readable. Caviar, Raven and Steel Gray on the glass that takes sun, Blanc and Gardenia where the room should stay bright. Its 3% openness makes it a water-view fabric; a west wall wants a tighter weave, and Perla has none.

Perla is the PVC-free 3% sheer in the Designer book, eight colours on a 116-inch roll that seams; SheerWeave 8000 is the Phifer 100% polyester basketweave at the same openness and width with published solar figures, Nohea the dual-sided 3% sheer in five metal names at Tier 3, and Santos the dual-sided PVC basketweave at 3%.

Good to Know

Perla: frequently asked

Is Perla a solar screen or a sheer?

Crestron files it as a sheer, and on the glass it does what a 3% solar screen does: you see objects through the weave, the sun is cut to a soft light, and there is daytime cover but none after dark. The difference is the cloth. Perla is 100% polyester with no PVC coating, where the Heritage screens are PVC-coated fiberglass or PVC-coated polyester, so it is the 3% weave for a project with a PVC-free brief.

Why does the Perla page show no solar figures?

Because Crestron publishes none for it: the fabric shop lists Perla's colourways without Ts, Rs, As or Tv, and the Fabric Information Guide gives composition, ratings, hembars and cleaning only. Where a client needs the numbers, for an energy model or an association submission, we specify a design that carries them, such as Esprit or E Screen at the same openness, and keep Perla for the rooms where the colour and the cloth decide. The swatch against your own glass tells you more than the table would.

What does a Crestron shade in Perla cost?

Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 2. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 2 fabric at $1,000 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,300 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,600 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation. Options, the control system, wiring and installation are on top; we quote the finished shade at the measure.

How wide can a Crestron shade in Perla be?

Crestron lists a usable roll width of 116 inches for Perla; it is not railroaded, so an opening wider than the roll takes two shades side by side, coupled on one bracket with the light gap set at a mullion. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.
