Crestron Fabric Library

The bright 3% polyester weave, for daylight rather than glareTier 2

SheerWeave 8000 is the 3% openness weave that behaves least like one. It is 100% polyester with no vinyl coating, rated PVC free and recyclable in Crestron's guide, and it passes far more light than its openness suggests: visible transmission runs from 7% to 36% across the seven colours, against 5% to 9% on SheerWeave 4600 at the same 3% openness. The roll is 116 inches, and Crestron allows a seam but not railroading. Phifer's own page is Phifer SheerWeave 8000, and the same Phifer weave is in the Lutron book as well, on its own page in that library.

Seven colourways: Snow, Egg Shell, Ecru, Silver, Smoke, Seal and Kohl. The numbers are unlike any other 3% card here. Snow transmits 38% of the solar energy that reaches it and reflects 54%, absorbing only 8%; Egg Shell transmits 37%; Ecru and Silver 30%. Even the darkest, Kohl, transmits 18% and absorbs 56%, where a Charcoal on a vinyl-coated 3% weave absorbs around 90%. That is the character of the fabric: a screen that leaves the room bright, holds little heat in the cloth, and softens the sun rather than removing it. Seal and Smoke, at 21% and 23% transmitted, are the two we show when some view and some glare control matter as well.

Woven by Phifer; the mill's full data is on our Phifer SheerWeave 8000 page.

Best Use & Limits

What SheerWeave 8000 does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

Rooms where daylight is the point and the sun is not on the glass: a dining room under a balcony, a studio with north light, a child's room on the shaded side. Snow, Egg Shell and Ecru keep a pale room pale; Seal or Kohl where some view and a little more calm matter. Where the sun lands on the glass, a vinyl-coated 3% goes there and 8000 on the quiet side.

Privacy

Little by day and none by night, less than a vinyl 3% weave gives, because light comes through the cloth as well as the holes. Snow and Egg Shell reflect enough daylight to blur the room from the street; Kohl and Seal blur it less. After dark the room is on view through all seven. Where privacy matters, the partner is a light-filtering roller behind it, SheerWeave 7450 on a PVC-free brief.

Glare control

The weakest glare control of any 3% weave in the library: its visible transmission sits well above the vinyl screens at the same openness, so a monitor facing the window will carry a glow all afternoon, worst behind Snow or Silver. Kohl and Smoke tame the sky without dimming the room. When glare is the complaint, 8000 is not the weave: go to 4600, 2410 or 2703, or to a 1% weave such as 2500.

Limitations

No railroading, so a shade cannot be wider than 116 inches unless it is seamed, and we would sooner split the opening into two shades and align the joint with a mullion. No darkening, no night privacy, and less heat control than any dark vinyl screen, because even Kohl stops less of the sun's energy than a Charcoal does. For sleep, a PVC-free blackout such as 7400 or 7500 behind it on a dual bracket.

Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.

The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).

Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.

Where SheerWeave 8000 works here

8000 is the 3% we specify for daylight rather than for glare: a north-facing studio, a kitchen off a shaded courtyard, a stair window, a Palm Beach guest room where the client wants the room bright and the screen quiet. Snow and Egg Shell keep a pale room glowing with the shade down; Kohl and Seal are the choice where some view matters. On the ocean or west side of the same house we keep to a vinyl-coated 3% such as 4600 or 2703.

SheerWeave 8000 is the bright PVC-free 3%, polyester with visible transmission to 36% on a 116-inch roll; 4600, 2410 and 2703 are the vinyl-coated Phifer 3% weaves with far tighter light figures on 124-inch rolls, and Infinity 2 is the other PVC-free screen, TPO at 5% on 96 inches.

Good to Know

SheerWeave 8000: frequently asked

Why does a 3% weave feel so bright?

Because openness and brightness are two different measurements. Openness is the share of the weave that is open air; visible transmission is how much light the whole cloth, yarn included, lets through. At 3% the holes alone cannot account for a visible transmission of 36%, so on 8000 the yarn itself is passing light, which the vinyl-coated yarns here do not: 4600 at the same openness stops at 9%. That makes 8000 a daylight fabric with a screen's texture rather than a glare fabric.

Is 8000 a media room fabric?

No. Kohl, Seal and Smoke are its darker three, but none of them comes near the figures of a charcoal vinyl weave, and visible transmission on this card runs into the thirties, so a television across from the window will fight the shade in the afternoon. For a media room we go to Ebony on 4600, a Charcoal at 1% on 2701, or a blackout on a dual bracket, and keep 8000 for the rooms where brightness is the brief.

Is there a blackout or light-filtering fabric in the same colours?

Not by name. The PVC-free Phifer partners in the Crestron programme are SheerWeave 7450 for light filtering and 7400, 7500 and 7001 for blackout, all polyester, and their colour cards use different names from Snow, Egg Shell, Ecru, Silver, Smoke, Seal and Kohl. We match by swatch instead: a 7500 behind a Snow or Egg Shell shade on a dual bracket is chosen against the 8000 sample in daylight, with the Crestron books open on the sill.

What does a Crestron shade in SheerWeave 8000 cost?

Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 2. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 2 fabric at $1,000 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,300 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,600 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation. Options, the control system, wiring and installation are on top; we quote the finished shade at the measure.

How wide can a Crestron shade in SheerWeave 8000 be?

Crestron lists a usable roll width of 116 inches for SheerWeave 8000; it is not railroaded, so an opening wider than the roll takes two shades side by side, coupled on one bracket with the light gap set at a mullion. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.

Is Crestron SheerWeave 8000 the same fabric as the mill's?

Crestron buys SheerWeave 8000 from Phifer and lists it under its own SKUs and price tier. The weave is the one on our Phifer SheerWeave 8000 page, where the mill's full optical and fire data lives; Crestron's page here shows the colourways and openness Crestron actually stocks for its shades.
