Crestron Fabric Library

A dual-sided 3% basketweave in three two-tone colourwaysTier 2

Santos is the smallest card in the Heritage book: a Coulisse basketweave at 3% openness, 80% PVC and 20% PES, at Tier 2, in three colourways that each pair a dark tone with Ivory, Soft Grey Ivory, Dark Bronze Ivory and Ebony Ivory. It is dual sided, so either face can be turned to the room, which is what a Decor hardware shade with an open roll or a glazed partition asks for. The reason to choose it over a plain 3% weave is the numbers: visible transmission of 4% to 5% across the whole card, the narrowest span in this library, with solar reflectance of 52% to 55%.

The card is built as one weave in three faces rather than one colour at several openness factors. Dark Bronze Ivory publishes a solar transmittance of 5% and reflects 52%; Ebony Ivory and Soft Grey Ivory each pass 7% and reflect 54% and 55%. Reflectance in the fifties is what a pale weave does and transmission in single figures is what a dark one does, and Santos does both, which is the two-tone construction at work. Crestron's guide lists it GREENGUARD and OEKO-TEX certified, lead free, mould and bacteria resistant and recyclable, without a fire-retardant rating, and offers the Open, Sealed and Exposed hembars but not the Designer Half-Wrap.

Best Use & Limits

What Santos does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

A shade seen from both sides or whose roll is on show: Decor hardware in a loft or an office, a glazed partition, a slider that a terrace looks back into. At 3% openness it suits east and south glass and a water view under shade. Ebony Ivory where the room is dark, Soft Grey Ivory where the wall is pale. For a west wall choose a tighter weave from another design.

Privacy

By day it covers well for a 3% weave: a card that reflects more than half the sunlight that reaches it and passes under a tenth reads as a pale surface from the street while the room sees out clearly. After dark the cover is gone with the lights on, as with every screen, and a bedroom takes a blackout behind it on a dual roller.

Glare control

Among the tightest 3% weaves in the library for a screen or a television: the room goes soft rather than dim and the sun's reflection off the water is taken out. The three colourways are close enough in their figures that the choice is about the wall, not the glare. A sun sitting low and square in the window still comes through any 3% weave, this one included.

Limitations

No night privacy and no darkening; a blackout layer does that. It cannot be railroaded, so a run wider than 118 inches takes a seam or a pair of shades, and the Designer Half-Wrap hembar is not offered on it, so the bottom rail is an Open Pocket, Sealed Pocket or Exposed hembar. The card is three colourways, so a scheme that needs a white or a beige goes to Esprit.

Where Santos works here

Santos is a fabric we specify for a particular window rather than a whole floor: a shade on Decor hardware where the back of the roll faces the room, a glazed partition, a bathroom slider seen from a terrace. At 3% openness it takes east and south glass and a water view under some shade; on a west wall we go to a 1% weave. On a whole floor we would rather run Esprit and keep Santos for the window that needs two finished faces.

Santos is the dual-sided 3% basketweave with the narrowest visible transmission on its card, 4% to 5%; SheerWeave 2703 is the dual-sided Phifer twill at the same openness with a wider card and a fire listing, Esprit the four-openness Coulisse weave beside it, and Nohea the dual-sided 3% sheer in the Designer book.

Good to Know

Santos: frequently asked

Which face of Santos goes to the glass?

Either, which is what dual sided means in Crestron's guide: both faces are finished, and the shade can be ordered with either one turned to the room. On Architectural hardware in a pocket or behind a fascia the choice is about the room; on Decor hardware, where the roll is exposed, both faces show and the dual-sided card is the reason to pick Santos. We decide with you at the measure, against your own glass and wall colour.

What does a Crestron shade in Santos cost?

How wide can a Crestron shade in Santos be?

Crestron lists a usable roll width of 118 inches for Santos; it is not railroaded, so an opening wider than the roll takes two shades side by side, coupled on one bracket with the light gap set at a mullion. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.
