The 3% half of the polyester-core pair, for the water sideTier 2

SheerWeave 4600 is the tighter of two Phifer basketweaves built on a polyester yarn under a vinyl coating, 3% openness against the 5% of SheerWeave 4500, and Crestron's guide gives it a little more polyester in the blend: 22% polyester and 78% vinyl, where 4500 is 17% and 83%. Everything else is shared: the same ten colour names, the same 124-inch roll, railroading and seaming allowed, the same Tier 2 column in the budget grid on this page. Phifer's own page covers both as SheerWeave 4500 and 4600, and it is the pair we use when a client wants a single-name colour on a 3% screen rather than a two-tone card.

At 3% the card tightens up. Ebony transmits 3% of the solar energy that reaches it and absorbs 94%; Dark Bronze transmits 4% and absorbs 91%; Chalk, the palest, still reflects 74% but now transmits 10%. Visible transmission runs only 5% to 9% across all ten colours, the narrowest band of any Phifer screen in the Crestron programme, so colour decides the brightness of the room and the clarity of the view more than it decides the glare. Capuccino and Pewter absorb 76% and 64%; Golden Sand, Sandstone and Granite absorb a little over half; Ecru and Linen sit with Chalk at the reflective end.

Woven by Phifer; the mill's full data is on our Phifer SheerWeave 4500/4600 page.

Best Use & Limits

What SheerWeave 4600 does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

The water side of a house that wants one colour on every window: the east glass of an oceanfront tower, a south living room, a corner unit with glass on two sides, a primary bedroom that reads the water in the morning. Ebony or Dark Bronze where the view leads, Pewter or Granite where the room has to stay a touch brighter, Chalk only where brightness is the brief. Under the terrace, switch to 4500.

Privacy

A 3% weave hides a little more by day than a more open one, and the pale colours hide the most: Chalk, Linen and Ecru bounce the daylight back and blur the interior from the street; Ebony and Dark Bronze are the two a neighbour sees through. None of the ten holds after dark with a lamp on. A bedroom needs a second roller, light-filtering or blackout, on the same dual roller bracket.

Glare control

Colour, not weave, is the decision here, since the weave does most of the work: every colour on the card lands at the quiet end of the visible-light scale, so even Chalk leaves a monitor readable, and Ebony, Dark Bronze and Capuccino make an afternoon television room out of a west window. No 3% weave removes a low sun square in the glass; for that, a 1% weave or a blackout on the second bracket.

Limitations

Nothing for night privacy or darkness, and the dark colours pay for their view in heat held at the glass, Ebony above all. The pale colours reflect that heat but turn a view of the water milky. On a hard west wall 3% is still a compromise; SheerWeave 2500 at 1% is the tighter Phifer answer. For a specification that excludes PVC, look at SheerWeave 8000, the polyester 3%, and accept its brightness.

Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.

Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).

Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.

South Florida

Where SheerWeave 4600 works here

4600 is the 3% we specify when a polyester-core screen goes on the water: a slider wall on the Intracoastal in Fort Lauderdale, a south-facing living room on Collins Avenue, the glass above a pool deck in Boca Raton. Ebony and Dark Bronze hold the view; Pewter and Granite are the middle; Chalk, Linen and Ecru brighten the room and haze the view. The 124-inch roll takes most sliders in one piece, and where one shade in a room must be railroaded we railroad them all, as Crestron recommends.

SheerWeave 4600 is the 3% half of the polyester-core pair, the same ten colours as 4500 with the tightest visible-light band of the Phifer screens here; the other Phifer weaves at 3%, 2410 and 2703, are fiberglass under the vinyl, and 8000 is the bright PVC-free polyester.

Good to Know

SheerWeave 4600: frequently asked

4600 or 4500 on a wall facing the Intracoastal?

4600. Three percent is our default on the water, and on this pair the difference is measurable in the same colour: Linen passes 8% of the solar energy at 3% and 11% at 5%, Pewter 5% against 6%. Keep 4500 for the rooms the terrace shades. Because the ten names are identical, a house can run 4600 on the water side and 4500 under the overhang, and the colour holds from room to room.

Does a pale 3% still glare on a television?

Less than a pale 5%, and less than most pale screens: visible transmission on Chalk, Linen and Ecru sits inside the card's narrow band, so a screen across the room is usable in the afternoon with the shade down, though not as calm as behind a 1% weave. What the pale colours add is brightness in the room and a milkier view, not glare. For a media room proper, Ebony is the choice on this card, with a blackout behind it on a dual roller for a matinee.

What does a Crestron shade in SheerWeave 4600 cost?

Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 2. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 2 fabric at $1,000 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,300 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,600 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation. Options, the control system, wiring and installation are on top; we quote the finished shade at the measure.

How wide can a Crestron shade in SheerWeave 4600 be?

Crestron lists a usable roll width of 124 inches for SheerWeave 4600; the fabric can be railroaded, turned 90 degrees on the roll, so one shade can run wider than the roll as long as it is no taller than the roll width, and where it is taller Crestron joins two widths with a horizontal seam, which we line up with a mullion or a transom. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.

Is Crestron SheerWeave 4600 the same fabric as the mill's?

Crestron buys SheerWeave 4600 from Phifer and lists it under its own SKUs and price tier. The weave is the one on our Phifer SheerWeave 4500/4600 page, where the mill's full optical and fire data lives; Crestron's page here shows the colourways and openness Crestron actually stocks for its shades.
