Crestron S Screen Fabric
4 colourways, basketweave, openness 4%, Crestron Tier 3. Every swatch and every figure Crestron publishes, from the Crestron-certified team in Fort Lauderdale that specifies and installs Crestron shades from Miami to Palm Beach.
Four mid-tone colours with a polyester yarn in the weave, at 4%Tier 3
S Screen is the Mermet weave in the Crestron Heritage Collection that adds a polyester yarn to the fiberglass and vinyl of E Screen and M Screen. Crestron stocks the Origins colours, at a single 4% openness, between the 3% living-room standard and the 5% under-terrace weave. It is a solar screen, view kept, glare and heat cut by day, no privacy at night, chosen for the weave itself rather than for a tuning option: what the polyester yarn does to the hand of the cloth is in the swatch and on the mill's page. Crestron lists it at Tier 3, one column right of E Screen and M Screen on the budget grid on this page.
The card is four colours at one openness, so four colourways: Cork, Granite, Papyrus and Porcelain. There is no white and no charcoal among them, and Crestron's visible transmittance for all four sits in a narrow band, so the choice between them is heat and colour rather than glare. Porcelain is the reflective one, sending back 59% of the solar energy that reaches it and absorbing 29%; Papyrus reflects 38% and absorbs 51%, Cork 35% and 55%, and Granite, the darkest by the figures, reflects 31% and absorbs 60%. That spread is narrower than the E Screen card's, which is the other thing S Screen is: a fabric that behaves much the same in any of its colours.
Woven by Mermet; the mill's full data is on our Mermet S Screen page.
What S Screen does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
A room where the shade is seen down most of the day and the weave is part of the scheme: a dining room, a study, a family room behind a loggia, a north or east bedroom. A Tier 3 fabric at one openness earns its place on glass a 3% or 5% E Screen would otherwise take, not on a hard west wall. Porcelain where the room runs warm, Granite where the view matters most.
Privacy
Daytime only, and modest: at 4% openness the weave is open enough that a lit room shows from outside after dark in every colour, and by day the pale Porcelain veils the room from the street more than Granite does, which is the same trade as on any screen, cover against view. For a bedroom or a bathroom, S Screen goes in front of a light-filtering or blackout layer on a dual roller.
Glare control
The four colours sit mid-range for a solar screen: the view stays crisp, direct sun softens to a glow, and a television across from the window still picks up some reflection. Granite, which absorbs the most of the four, is the pick when glare is the complaint, Porcelain when the room must stay pale. None removes a low sun in line with the glass or matches a 1% charcoal for an office with screens.
Limitations
No room darkening, no night privacy, and no tighter weave for the glass that needs one. Crestron does not railroad or seam S Screen, so a wall wider than 120 inches is two shades on one line, met at a mullion. The three darker colours absorb more than half the solar energy that reaches them and warm at the glass; on unshaded west glass, E Screen KOOLBLACK is the charcoal that does not.
S Screen colourways

Colourways
Every S Screen colourway, with Crestron's published figures
Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.
What a Crestron shade in S Screen costs
Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 3. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 3 fabric at $1,200 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,600 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $2,000 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation.
| Shade size | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Tier 4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 ft wide x 5 ft high | $900 | $1,000 | $1,200 | $1,400 |
| 5 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,100 | $1,300 | $1,600 | $2,200 |
| 10 ft wide x 10 ft high | $1,400 | $1,600 | $2,000 | $3,200 |
Options in the same guide: fascia $20 per ft; top and back cover $20 per ft; pocket $50 per ft; dual shade (two fabrics, one bracket) double the single-shade figure. The guide names example fabrics per tier: Tier 1: Bella, Mika, Merinda, Nava; Tier 2: E Screen, SheerWeave 2500, 2700 and 7500, Perla, Dilanna; Tier 3: SheerWeave 7000, Rachel, Nohea, Cosima; Tier 4: Flocke, Vizela, Harika; a few have changed tier since, and every fabric page gives the tier the Crestron fabric shop lists today. The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).
Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.
Where S Screen works here
S Screen goes into a Boca Raton house where the shade will be seen down all day and the weave is part of the scheme: a study, a dining room, a family room off a covered loggia. At 4% openness it does what a 3% or 5% E Screen does, so we use it on east, north and covered exposures and keep it off a bare west wall, where a 1% charcoal belongs. On a slider wall we check the width first, because Crestron neither railroads nor seams it.
S Screen is the four-colour Mermet weave with a polyester yarn, at 4% and Tier 3; E Screen and M Screen are the plain fiberglass and vinyl basketweaves with far larger cards at Tier 2, and E Screen KOOLBLACK is the charcoal heat-reflective version of E Screen at 1% and 3%.
S Screen: frequently asked
Is 4% much different from the 3% and 5% of E Screen?
In use, no: a 4% openness weave sits between the two and behaves like both, with the view kept and direct sun taken down to a glow. Crestron's visible transmittance for the four S Screen colours is 8% to 10%, in the middle of what the E Screen card publishes, so the glare control is that of a mid-tone screen, less than a charcoal, more than a white. The reason to choose S Screen is the polyester yarn and the four colours, not a different level of shading.
Does S Screen pair with E Screen or M Screen in the same home?
Yes, by swatch rather than by name: Cork, Granite, Papyrus and Porcelain have no twins on the E Screen or M Screen cards, so where S Screen is in the family room and E Screen in the bedrooms we hold the two books against the same wall and match tone rather than name. In practice S Screen takes the rooms where the shade is looked at, and the plainer basketweaves take the rest of the floor at 3% or 5%, a tier lower on the budget grid.
Does the polyester yarn change the fire rating or the certifications?
Not on Crestron's list. The Fabric Information Guide gives S Screen the same ratings as E Screen and M Screen: fire retardant, GREENGUARD certified, lead free, mould and bacteria resistant, and certified environmentally safe. The polyester is 6.8% of the cloth against 33.6% fiberglass and 59.6% vinyl, and the mill's own listings and full data are on our Mermet S Screen page. For an association or a commercial specification we send that page with the Crestron sheet.
What does a Crestron shade in S Screen cost?
Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 3. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 3 fabric at $1,200 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,600 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $2,000 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation. Options, the control system, wiring and installation are on top; we quote the finished shade at the measure.
How wide can a Crestron shade in S Screen be?
Crestron lists a usable roll width of 120 inches for S Screen; it is not railroaded, so an opening wider than the roll takes two shades side by side, coupled on one bracket with the light gap set at a mullion. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.
Is Crestron S Screen the same fabric as the mill's?
Crestron buys S Screen from Mermet and lists it under its own SKUs and price tier. The weave is the one on our Mermet S Screen page, where the mill's full optical and fire data lives; Crestron's page here shows the colourways and openness Crestron actually stocks for its shades.
