TOP D-Screen 5% Fabric
5 colourways, solar screen, 5% openness, 300 cm roll, fire listed. TOP Window Covering fabric, made into roller shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed from Miami to Palm Beach.
A 5% screen whose dark colours still reflect heat, for shaded offices and lobbies
D-Screen 5% is a flame-retardant solar screen from TOP Window Covering at 5% openness: 30% polyester and 70% PVC, 0.7 mm thick and 409 g/m2, on a 300 cm roll, about 118 inches. That makes it the thickest of TOP's flame-retardant screens. There are five colours, White, Light Gray, Gray, Taupe and Black. It is a working screen for office floors, hotel public areas and condo common rooms with filtered sun, and for the shaded side of a house.
The unusual figures are at the dark end. Black reflects 35.9% of the sun's energy and Taupe 28.9%, where a dark screen usually reflects far less, and no colour on the card absorbs more than 60%. The price is clarity and glare: Black passes 11% of the visible light and Taupe 10.2%, more than a dark screen at a tighter openness. White reflects 59.8% and passes 24.2%, a bright panel best kept to shaded glass.
What D-Screen 5% does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Filtered and shaded glass: an office floor behind a colonnade, a hotel corridor or restaurant under a deep overhang, a condo clubroom facing a courtyard, a covered loggia at home. White or Light Gray keeps the space bright; Black is for where the view out matters. For unshaded west or south-west glass this is the wrong openness: choose it only where the sun arrives softened.
Privacy
Some daytime privacy, more in White and Light Gray than in the darker colours, and none at night once the lights are on: at 5% the room shows clearly. Guest rooms and bedrooms need a blackout behind it, ideally on a dual roller so both layers share one bracket.
Glare control
It reduces glare without removing it. With visible transmission between 10.2% and 24.2%, a monitor facing the window works under filtered light but not with direct sun on the glass, even in Taupe or Black. A low sun lined up with the window will show through, as it does through any screen, and more brightly than through a tighter weave.
Limitations
No darkening, no night privacy, and not enough glare control for hard west glass. White passes the most light on the card and can read as a lit panel in a bright room. It contains PVC, so it is out for a no-vinyl specification. If you need a tighter flame-retardant screen, see Essence Screen.

Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, Tuv = UV transmitted, in percent for the fabric alone, as published on TOP's datasheet; a dash means TOP publishes no figure for that colour. We bring TOP samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.
Where D-Screen 5% works here
We would use it on a shaded office floor, a hotel corridor or a condo clubroom where the glass gets filtered sun, and in a covered loggia at home. Its datasheet lists NFPA 701, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1, BS 5867 Part 2 and Classe 1 (Italy). On west glass facing the water we would move to a tighter weave.
C-Screen Linen 5% is the same openness and roll width with linen in the cloth and six colours, but without Classe 1 (Italy) on its datasheet.
D-Screen 5%: frequently asked
Why choose Black if it lets in more light than Taupe?
For the view out. Black and Taupe are close on glare, 11% and 10.2% visible transmission, but Black reflects more of the sun's energy, 35.9% against 28.9%, and a black face gives the crispest outlook. Taupe is the pick when the room is warm in tone and the desks matter more than the view; Gray, at 12.1%, sits just behind both.
How wide can a roller shade in TOP D-Screen 5% be?
TOP makes D-Screen 5% in a 300 cm (118 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 118 inches wide. Wider openings get two roller shades side by side, set to move together, or a split placed where a mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in D-Screen 5%?
D-Screen 5% is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Is D-Screen 5% flame retardant?
TOP's datasheet for D-Screen 5% lists NFPA 701, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1, BS 5867 Part 2, Classe 1 (Italy). For a hotel, a condo common area or an office, ask us for the datasheet with your quote: the building's reviewer or the fire marshal will want the listing in writing.
