A thin flame-retardant light-filtering fabric for bright, private daytime rooms
Ancona FR is a flame-retardant light-filtering fabric from TOP Window Covering: 100% polyester with a dip-coated finish, and at 0.28 mm and 120 g/m2 the lightest cloth in TOP's contract range. It comes on a 300 cm roll, about 118 inches, 50 m long. As a light-filtering fabric it has no openness factor, so there is no view through it, only light. The seven colours run from Ice White and White through Light Brown, Gray Violet and Brindle to Castlerock and Deep Black. It is made for hotel corridors, meeting rooms, offices and condo common areas, and it works in a home office or a bathroom too.
The colour decides how bright the room stays. White and Ice White pass 53.3% and 53.6% of the visible light, so the room stays bright and the glare is reduced rather than removed. Deep Black passes 10.2% and Castlerock 18.2%, which gives soft, even daylight. Ancona is a light cloth and does little against heat: the whites pass about half of the sun's energy, and even Deep Black passes 31.1%. Choose it for daylight and daytime privacy, not for cooling a room.
What Ancona FR does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Rooms that want daylight and privacy rather than a view: a hotel corridor or meeting room, a condo fitness room facing the parking deck, an office looking into the next building, a guest bath. Ice White or White for the most daylight, Light Brown or Gray Violet for a warmer tone, Castlerock or Deep Black where a screen or a projector is in use. For a corridor, start with White.
Privacy
By day nobody sees in, in any colour, because the cloth has no openness to look through. After dark the face glows from the lamps behind it and shows silhouettes, most clearly in the whites, which pass over half the light. A bedroom or a ground-floor bathroom needs a blackout layer behind it, on a dual roller.
Glare control
It removes the view, so direct sun arrives as a glow rather than a disc, but it does not remove the brightness: the whites become a lit panel on a sunny window. Brindle, at 25.9%, sits in the middle of the card. For a monitor or a projector, Castlerock or Deep Black turn direct sun into soft, even light, and TOP marks the fabric suitable for workstations.
Limitations
It is not a heat fabric. The whites pass more than half of the sun's energy, and UV transmission runs from 13% to 42.2% depending on colour, so on a west wall the room still warms and furnishings near the glass still take UV. Where Ancona FR works here
In South Florida we would specify Ancona FR for a condo lobby, a hotel corridor or a conference room that looks at a parking deck or the next tower, where daylight is welcome and the view is not. The datasheet lists NFPA 701, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1, BS 5867 Part 2 and Classe 1 (Italy). On sunny west glass we would pair it with a solar screen on a dual roller, or use the screen alone.
Orient FR is the heavier light-filtering sibling, PVC-free on TOP's datasheet, with far less light through its darker colours and a blackout version under the same name.

Is Ancona FR PVC-free?
TOP's datasheet does not say so. The composition is 100% polyester with a dip-coated finish, and the datasheet lists it as free of lead, halogens and phthalates, but its PVC-free field reads no. On a project that requires a fabric with no vinyl, we would use Orient FR, which TOP lists as PVC-free.
Can Ancona FR go in a bathroom?
Yes. TOP rates it suitable for humid environments, lists an antimicrobial finish, and fungal resistance tested to ASTM G21-96, and gives a damp cloth as the care instruction. In a bathroom on a street or a walkway, choose a dark colour or add a blackout behind it, because a lit room puts silhouettes on a light-filtering fabric at night.
How wide can a roller shade in TOP Ancona FR be?
TOP makes Ancona FR in a 300 cm (118 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 118 inches wide. Wider openings get two roller shades side by side, set to move together, or a split placed where a mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in Ancona FR?
Ancona FR is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Is Ancona FR flame retardant?
TOP's datasheet for Ancona FR lists NFPA 701, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1, BS 5867 Part 2, Classe 1 (Italy). For a hotel, a condo common area or an office, ask us for the datasheet with your quote: the building's reviewer or the fire marshal will want the listing in writing.
