TOP Fashion Screen 3% Fabric
12 colourways, solar screen, 3% openness, 280 cm roll, fire listed. TOP Window Covering fabric, made into roller shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed from Miami to Palm Beach.
A 3% screen that holds glare down in every colour, for offices, lobbies and media walls
Fashion Screen 3% is a flame-retardant solar screen from TOP Window Covering, made at a single openness factor, 3%, in twelve colours. The cloth is 30% polyester and 70% PVC, 0.56 mm thick and 420 g/m2, on a 280 cm roll, about 110 inches. What sets the card apart is what it leaves out: there is no white. The colours run from Almond Oil and Silver Birch through Celadon, Hemp, Gravel and Vetiver to Moon Rock, Dark Slate and Black/Red, so the shade reads as a soft colour at the window rather than a bright panel. It is meant for lobbies, offices, guest rooms and living rooms that face the sun.
The figures make the case for it. Visible transmission stays between 4.6% and 10.2% across the card, so even the palest colour keeps glare down. Heat is where the colours part company: Silver Birch reflects 49.5% of the sun's energy, while Dark Slate reflects 4.6% and absorbs 90.2%. Take the pale end on west glass that gets the afternoon sun, and Castlerock or Arona where the glass is shaded and the room wants a clearer view out. UV transmission runs from 4.5% to 5.5%.
What Fashion Screen 3% does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Rooms where glare is the complaint and the view still matters: an office floor with monitors, a hotel bar or lobby facing the water, a condo clubroom, a family room with the television on the window wall. TOP marks it suitable for workstations, and the glare control holds across the whole card, so choose by heat and by the room's palette. On west glass, take Silver Birch or Almond Oil.
Privacy
For a screen it hides the room well by day, since the whole card passes little light; the paler colours hide more and the darker ones see out better. After sunset, with lamps on inside, a 3% weave shows the room in every colour. Hotel rooms and bedrooms need a blackout as well, either a second shade or a dual roller on one bracket.
Glare control
This is the card's strength. Moon Rock, Wild Dove, Dark Slate and Black/Red pass between 4.6% and 5.2% of the visible light, which keeps a monitor readable with the sun on the glass, and the palest colour, Almond Oil, still holds it to 10.2%. What no 3% screen can do is stop a low sun sitting in line with the window: on west glass late in the day the disc still shows through the weave.
Limitations
It will not darken a room and gives no night privacy. The darkest colours, Dark Slate and Black/Red, reflect 4.6% and 8% of the sun's energy and absorb most of the rest at the glass, so keep them to shaded or north windows. There is no white for a facade rule, no tighter openness for the worst glare and no PVC-free version. For bedrooms, see blackout shades.

Every Fashion Screen 3% colourway, with TOP's published figures
Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, Tuv = UV transmitted, in percent for the fabric alone, as published on TOP's datasheet; a dash means TOP publishes no figure for that colour. We bring TOP samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.
Where Fashion Screen 3% works here
This is the screen we would specify for a commercial lobby or a condo clubroom on the Intracoastal where the glass faces west and a reception desk or a television faces the glass. Its datasheet lists NFPA 701, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1, BS 5867 Part 2 and Classe 1 (Italy), a list matched only by D-Screen among TOP's flame-retardant screens. In a house it belongs in a family room with a large television on the window wall.
Finesse Screen 3% is the same openness on a thinner, lighter cloth and a wider roll, with White and Ivory on its seven-colour card where this one has no white.
Fashion Screen 3%: frequently asked
Why is there no white on the card?
TOP does not make Fashion Screen in white. The palest colour, Almond Oil, passes 10.2% of the visible light and reflects 47.5% of the sun's energy, so glare stays down even at the light end, but no colour here sends heat back the way a white screen does. If a condo rule calls for a white street face, Essence Screen in White or Ice White is the TOP answer.
Which colour for a room with a television on the window wall?
Moon Rock and Wild Dove, at 4.6% and 4.8% visible transmission, the two lowest on the card. Of the two, Wild Dove is the better choice on hot glass: it reflects 30.6% of the sun's energy against 13.9% for Moon Rock, so less heat builds up in the cloth. Dark Slate and Black/Red pass slightly more light and hold more heat.
How wide can a roller shade in TOP Fashion Screen 3% be?
TOP makes Fashion Screen 3% in a 280 cm (110 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 110 inches wide. Wider openings get two roller shades side by side, set to move together, or a split placed where a mullion hides it. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in Fashion Screen 3%?
Fashion Screen 3% is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Is Fashion Screen 3% flame retardant?
TOP's datasheet for Fashion Screen 3% lists NFPA 701, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1, BS 5867 Part 2, Classe 1 (Italy). For a hotel, a condo common area or an office, ask us for the datasheet with your quote: the building's reviewer or the fire marshal will want the listing in writing.
