Crestron Fabric Library

The light-filtering weave for buildings that ask for a fire listingTier 1

Ella is the light-filtering fabric for a building that wants a fire listing on its shades. Crestron's guide marks it fire retardant, the only Coulisse light-filtering cloth in the library to carry that rating, and it is 100% polyester woven with an openness factor under 1%, so daylight arrives diffused and the view outside reduces to light and shadow. Every colour is Tier 1 in the budget grid on this page. Crestron offers it with all four of its hembars, the Designer Half-Wrap included, which among the Coulisse light-filtering fabrics only Merinda shares, so a shade whose bottom rail is on show can finish in its own cloth.

The card is eight colours, in Crestron's code order Snow White, Pearled Ivory, Pale Khaki, Silver Cloud, Atmosphere, Cinder, Caviar and Limestone, all light-filtering and all in the same tier, so the decision is the colour, with one small exception: Caviar comes off a 111-inch roll and the other seven off 110, which matters only on a shade cut to the limit. What Ella does not have is a blackout under the same names, as Bella, Mika, Nava and Merinda do. A bedroom that must go dark therefore takes a second fabric on the same dual roller, chosen for its paperwork as much as its colour.

Best Use & Limits

What Ella does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

Bathrooms, secondary bedrooms, a home office facing the next tower, a stair or corridor window: rooms that want daylight without a sightline, in a building whose rules call for a fire listing. Where the bottom rail is in view, finish it with the Half-Wrap bar. A bedroom that must sleep dark adds a blackout on the same bracket. A view window or a media room is the wrong place for Ella.

Privacy

Complete by day: while the light is outside, nobody sees into the room through Ella. Once the lamps are on inside, it shows silhouettes and movement to anyone looking in, which an upstairs bath can accept and a bedroom facing a balcony cannot. Those rooms need a blackout as well, and Cosima is the one that keeps the fire listing on both tubes.

Glare control

The sun comes through Ella diffused, never as a beam, and the shade itself becomes the brightest surface in the room. For a desk or a television facing the window, choose from the darker names on the card rather than Snow White or Pearled Ivory, and judge them against the glass, since Crestron publishes no light figures for Ella. A screen that must stay fully readable needs a blackout.

Limitations

No view out at any hour, and no darkening: alone, Ella leaves a bedroom light at dawn. It is not dual sided, so the building sees a different face from the room, which matters in a tower with rules about what shows outside; we show the reverse before ordering. Glass with a view wants a solar screen.

Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.

The guide excludes control processors, keypads, interfaces, wiring, power supplies, programming and installation. Source (PDF).

Figures are Crestron's own budgetary MSRP guide of June 2022 for one motorized 5 Series roller shade, motor included, before options. They exclude the control system, wiring, power, programming and installation, and Crestron may have changed them since. We quote every project at the measure.

South Florida

Where Ella works here

We put Ella in condo towers between Hallandale Beach and Pompano Beach whose associations ask for fire-retardant fabric: the bathrooms, the second bedroom and the den that face the next building, where the shade's job is daylight without being seen. In the primary bedroom it shares a dual bracket with Cosima, both on Half-Wrap bars, and the ocean side of the unit takes a solar screen.

Ella is the Coulisse light-filtering weave with a fire listing and every Crestron hembar but no blackout twin; Desiré matches its width and tier with four colours and none of those extras, Vizela is the fire-listed fiberglass weave with published solar figures, and Bella, Mika, Nava and Merinda come with same-name blackouts.

Good to Know

Ella: frequently asked

What blackout goes with Ella in a bedroom?

Cosima, as a rule. Crestron's guide lists the two Coulisse polyesters with the same ratings, fire retardant and mould and bacteria resistant among them, the same four hembars and the same 110-inch roll, and both are seamed rather than railroaded past it, so both tubes of a dual shade carry the same listings. The colour names do not overlap, so we pair them by eye with both books at your window. Without the fire requirement, Dilanna adds Black and Indigo to the choice.

Ella or Desiré: same width, same tier, so what separates them?

Paperwork, hembars and what happens past the roll. Ella carries the fire listing and the mould and bacteria line in Crestron's guide, takes the Designer Half-Wrap, and can be seamed when an opening is wider than the roll; Desiré has none of those and stops at 110 inches. Ella also offers eight colours to Desiré's four. We choose Desiré only when Grain, Bark, Charcoal or Mist is the colour the room is built around.

What does a Crestron shade in Ella cost?

Crestron places this fabric in price Tier 1. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 lists a motorized 5 Series roller shade in a Tier 1 fabric at $900 for 3 ft x 5 ft, $1,100 for 5 ft x 10 ft and $1,400 for 10 ft x 10 ft, MSRP, motor included, before options, control, wiring and installation. Options, the control system, wiring and installation are on top; we quote the finished shade at the measure.

How wide can a Crestron shade in Ella be?

Crestron lists a usable roll width of 111 inches or 110 inches for Ella; it is not railroaded, so an opening wider than the roll takes two shades side by side, coupled on one bracket with the light gap set at a mullion. We confirm the limit for the chosen hardware when we measure.
