A white-backed blackout with the fullest fire listing, for hotel and condo bedrooms

C-Screen Blackout White Backing is the blackout with the longest fire listing in the flame-retardant range from TOP Window Covering. The cloth is 30% polyester and 70% PVC with a white back, 0.65 mm thick and 550 g/m2, the heaviest fabric in the range, on a 300 cm roll, about 118 inches. Eight colours face the room, Ice White, White, Ivory, White/Gray, Sand, Light Gray, Gray and Charcoal, while the street sees the white back at every window. It is made for hotel guest rooms, condo bedrooms and media rooms, and for any room a fire marshal will look at.

The listings are the reason to choose it over a residential blackout: NFPA 701, NFPA 101, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, IBC Section 803.1.1, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1 and BS 5867 Part 2. Choose the face colour for the room; the white back means the building looks the same from outside whatever colour each room takes. TOP publishes no optical figures for this fabric. Six of the eight colour names also appear on the Essence Screen card, which helps when a screen and a blackout share a window.

Best Use & Limits

What C-Screen Blackout does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

Hotel guest rooms, condo bedrooms in towers with a facade rule, nurseries, media rooms and boardrooms with a projector: anywhere the room has to go dark and the paperwork has to pass. Ivory or Ice White keeps a bedroom feeling open by day; Charcoal or Gray suits a media room. In guest rooms, specify side channels with it from the start, not as an afterthought.

Privacy

Complete, day and night, in every colour: nothing in the room reads through the cloth. What gives a lit room away is the gap at the edges of a roller, which shows from the street as a bright outline at night; side channels close it. For daytime privacy with the view kept, put a solar screen in front on a dual roller.

Glare control

It ends glare by ending the daylight, which suits a media room, a projector wall or a guest room at noon, and suits a desk badly. TOP publishes no optical figures, so treat it as a blackout and plan the daytime light separately. Where people work in the room by day, a solar screen in front does the glare work and this shade comes down at night.

Limitations

No view and no daylight when it is down. The cloth is thick and heavy, so a tall shade builds a large roll: check the pocket depth before ordering. It contains PVC, so a no-vinyl specification rules it out; Orient FR Blackout White Backing is the PVC-free option. A wide opening past one roll takes two shades rather than a seam.

Where C-Screen Blackout White Backing works here

For a hotel guest room or an oceanfront condo bedroom we would make it up as a roller shade in side channels or a ceiling pocket, paired with Essence Screen on a dual roller, so the room keeps a daytime view and gets a night that is actually dark. TOP rates it suitable for humid environments, with an antimicrobial finish tested to ASTM E2149, which suits a damp room on the water.

Orient FR Blackout White Backing is the lighter, PVC-free alternative in six colours, without NFPA 101 or IBC Section 803.1.1 on its datasheet.

Good to Know

C-Screen Blackout White Backing: frequently asked

Does the white backing matter if the face is Charcoal?

Yes. The back is what the building shows, so a Charcoal room and an Ice White room look the same from the street, which keeps a hotel or condo facade even. A white back also reflects more of the sun's heat than a dark one would. Inside, Charcoal gives a darker, calmer room when the shade is down.

Will the room be completely dark?

The cloth is a blackout, so the light that reaches the room comes around it: down the sides of the roller, under the bottom bar and over the top of the roll. Side channels close the sides, a sill detail closes the bottom, and a ceiling pocket or a fascia covers the top. In a guest room we would specify all three.

Which colour suits a media room?

Charcoal or Gray. Every colour stops light the same way, but a dark face reflects less lamp and screen light back into the room, so a projected image keeps its contrast. The white back keeps the building's face unchanged, so the choice inside costs nothing outside.

How wide can a roller shade in TOP C-Screen Blackout White Backing be?

TOP makes C-Screen Blackout White Backing in a 300 cm (118 in) roll. The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 118 inches wide. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades side by side, set to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.

Which shades can be made in C-Screen Blackout White Backing?

C-Screen Blackout White Backing is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.

Is C-Screen Blackout White Backing flame retardant?

TOP's datasheet for C-Screen Blackout White Backing lists NFPA 701, NFPA 101, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, IBC Section 803.1.1, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1, BS 5867 Part 2. For a hotel, a condo common area or an office, ask us for the datasheet with your quote: the building's reviewer or the fire marshal will want the listing in writing.
