TOP Vinyl Blackout Color Backing Fabric
8 colourways, blackout, colour backing, 300 cm roll, fire listed. TOP Window Covering fabric, made into roller shades in our Fort Lauderdale workroom and installed from Miami to Palm Beach.
A thin fiberglass and PVC blackout that shows its face colour to the street
Vinyl Blackout Color Backing is a flame-retardant blackout from TOP Window Covering: 40% fiberglass and 60% PVC with a laminated finish, 0.3 mm thick and 430 g/m2, on rolls of 200 and 300 cm. The colour backing means the street sees the face colour, not white. The card lists White, Ivory, Cream, Champagne, Light Gray, Gray and Black, plus item 43005, which TOP lists without a colour name; Champagne is on the datasheet without a swatch picture. It suits hotel rooms, offices and condo amenity rooms, and houses where a coloured street face is allowed.
TOP publishes Tv 0 for every colour it gives figures for, so nothing passes through the cloth itself. What changes from colour to colour is heat: Ivory and White reflect 67.7% and 67.2% of the sun's energy, while Black reflects 4.3% and absorbs 95.7%, which makes a black shade warm on west glass. A fiberglass base does not stretch, which helps a wide shade hang flat. The trade-off is the facade: a dark colour reads as a dark window from outside.
What Vinyl Blackout does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Media rooms, nurseries, staff and meeting rooms, conference rooms with projectors, pool houses and spa rooms that need a wipeable, fire-listed blackout. White, Ivory or Cream for any glass that takes sun; Gray or Black only on shaded or north windows, or where the room should feel enclosed. If the building requires a white facade, choose the white-backed C-Screen Blackout instead.
Privacy
Total through the cloth, day and night. The gaps at the sides of a roller shade still leak light, and after dark they tell the street the room is lit; side channels close them. For a view by day and privacy at night, pair it with a solar screen on a dual roller.
Glare control
Nothing gets through: with Tv 0 published for every colour that has figures, a projector, a television or a monitor has no daylight to compete with once the shade is down. That also means no daylight at all, so it is the wrong fabric for a room people work in by day unless a screen hangs with it. The only light left comes in at the edges.
Limitations
No view, no daylight, and a coloured street face that some condo associations will not accept. It contains PVC, so it does not meet a no-vinyl specification. Item 43005 has no published colour name and Champagne has no swatch picture, so see the physical sample before ordering either. For a bedroom under a facade rule, see blackout shades.

1 colourway is listed on TOP's datasheet without a swatch picture on TOP's site; we bring the sample. TOP publishes no colour name for the colourways shown by item number. Swatch pictures and room photos: TOP Window Covering. Screens and monitors shift colour: judge on the sample.
Every Vinyl Blackout Color Backing colourway, with TOP's published figures
Tv = visible light transmitted, Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed, Tuv = UV transmitted, in percent for the fabric alone, as published on TOP's datasheet; a dash means TOP publishes no figure for that colour. We bring TOP samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.
Where Vinyl Blackout Color Backing works here
We would use it in a condo gym, a hotel meeting room or a media room where a fire listing is needed and the building accepts a coloured window, and in a house where nobody regulates the facade. TOP rates it suitable for humid environments, so a pool house or a spa room is fine. The datasheet lists NFPA 701, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1 and BS 5867 Part 2.
C-Screen Blackout White Backing is the white-backed alternative for a building that needs a uniform facade, with NFPA 101 and IBC Section 803.1.1 added to its fire listings.
Vinyl Blackout Color Backing: frequently asked
Is a dark colour a problem on a west window?
It can be. Black reflects only 4.3% of the solar energy and absorbs nearly all the rest, so on unshaded west glass the shade gets hot and shows a black window to the street. Gray reflects 31.6% and Light Gray 47.6%. For a west room we would take Ivory, White or Cream, which reflect 58.1% to 67.7%.
How wide can a roller shade in TOP Vinyl Blackout Color Backing be?
TOP makes Vinyl Blackout Color Backing in rolls 200 and 300 cm (78.7 and 118 in). The roll width is the widest single piece we can cut, so one roller shade can be made a little under 118 inches wide. A seam in a blackout shows as a line of light, so wider openings get two shades side by side, set to move together. We confirm the exact limit for the operating system when we measure.
Which shades can be made in Vinyl Blackout Color Backing?
Vinyl Blackout Color Backing is a roller shade fabric. We buy it from TOP Window Covering by the roll and make the shades ourselves in our Fort Lauderdale workroom: cut square, finished with a weighted hem bar and fitted to a Lutron, Somfy or Crestron motor or a manual chain, then installed by our own team from Miami to Palm Beach.
Is Vinyl Blackout Color Backing flame retardant?
TOP's datasheet for Vinyl Blackout Color Backing lists NFPA 701, California Title 19, CAN/ULC-S109, EN 13773, DIN 4102 B1, BS 5867 Part 2. For a hotel, a condo common area or an office, ask us for the datasheet with your quote: the building's reviewer or the fire marshal will want the listing in writing.
