Crestron Keystone Fabric
10 colourways, light dimming / translucent, Crestron Tier 4. Every swatch and every figure Crestron publishes, from the Crestron-certified team in Fort Lauderdale that specifies and installs Crestron shades from Miami to Palm Beach.
The nine-colour horizontal sheer, with a colour list for each opacityTier 4
Keystone is one of the three fabric collections made for the Crestron Horizontal Sheer Shade, and it is not a roller-shade fabric. The shade is two layers of sheer with 3-inch fabric vanes between them. Tilt the vanes open and Crestron's spec sheet gives about 1.5 inches of clear view between vanes; tilt them shut and they overlap into a closed face; raise the shade and the fabric rolls away onto its tube. Crestron publishes no openness factor, roll width or solar figure for any horizontal sheer fabric, so the shade's spec sheet and expectations guide are the reference. Every colourway sits in Tier 4, the highest column of the budget grid on this page.
The card is the largest of the three, nine colours in ten colourways, and it works as two short lists rather than one long one. Translucent comes in Snow, Pearl, Parchment, Mocha and Gray's Harbor; light-dimming comes in Arctic Ice, Eggshell, Natural Linen, Twilight and Gray's Harbor. Gray's Harbor is the only name on both lists, so with Keystone the opacity is decided first and the colour second. With the vanes closed, translucent lets more daylight into the room and light-dimming holds more of it back, so the second list is the one for bedrooms and rooms with a screen, though Crestron is clear that light-dimming is not a blackout.
What Keystone does on your glass, and what it does not
Best use
Rooms lived in by day, where the view matters most of the time and cover only now and then: a family room, a breakfast room, a home office, all from the translucent list. Bedrooms, and any room where a television faces the window, take the light-dimming list. When one colour has to run through both kinds of room, Gray's Harbor is the only Keystone answer.
Privacy
Closed, the vanes overlap and hide the room from outside, by day and after dark; Crestron notes they do not close tightly at the very bottom of the shade, and the overlap still keeps the sightline shut there. Open, they trade cover for view, and a lit room shows through them at night. A translucent vane lit from inside can show the shadow of someone standing close to it; light-dimming shows less.
Glare control
Open, the vanes let direct sun in through the gaps, softened by the two sheer layers; tilted part way, they cut how much reaches the room, much as a blind's slats do. Closed, only diffused light comes through, bright behind a translucent colour and lower behind a light-dimming one, so a television wall or a desk facing the glass takes the second list. With no visible transmission figure published, we judge it at your window.
Limitations
Neither list is a blackout, so a bedroom that has to stay dark past sunrise takes a blackout roller as well, where the depth allows. Like a roller, the shade leaves a light gap of about 3/4 inch at each side. And with no solar figures published, we make no heat claim for Keystone: on a hard west wall, a solar screen with published numbers does that job.
Keystone colourways
9 colours, 10 colourways. Crestron Tier 4.
Colourways
Every Keystone colourway, with Crestron's published figures
Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.
What a Crestron horizontal sheer in Keystone costs
Crestron places every Keystone colourway in price Tier 4. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 prices roller shades only and gives no figure for the Horizontal Sheer Shade, so we do not print one here: we quote the finished shade at the measure, with the fascia, the motor or the manual clutch, and the control.
Where Keystone works here
We specify Keystone for South Florida rooms that face something closer than the horizon: a Fort Lauderdale living room on a canal where boats pass a few yards from the glass, a Palm Beach dining room on the street, a Boca Raton study facing the next garden. We measure the height exactly, because this shade is ordered without the allowance a roller gets. Where the motor budget is not settled, the manual clutch goes in first and the motor follows later, on the same shade.
Keystone is the nine-colour horizontal sheer, split into a translucent list and a light-dimming list that meet only at Gray's Harbor; Vail offers five colours and Telluride three, each made both ways, and Perla and Sena are the Tier 2 Coulisse sheers made for a flat roller shade, seen through the weave rather than between vanes.
Keystone: frequently asked
Can any Keystone colour be ordered both translucent and light-dimming?
Only Gray's Harbor. Crestron lists it twice, once in each opacity, and every other Keystone colour comes one way: Snow, Pearl, Parchment and Mocha as translucent only, Arctic Ice, Eggshell, Natural Linen and Twilight as light-dimming only. If a house wants the same colour name in its living rooms and its bedrooms, the choice is Gray's Harbor or the Vail card, where all five colours are made both ways.
How is a Keystone shade cleaned, and does sea air matter?
Cleaning is dry. Crestron's guidance is a duster, a vacuum on low suction or cool air blown across the vanes, and the five light-dimming colourways, the light-dimming Gray's Harbor among them, cannot be cleaned ultrasonically. On the coast, care includes the weather: Crestron warns that salt air and rain through an open window age the fabric faster, so we hang Keystone on glass that stays shut rather than on a slider left open to the breeze.
