Crestron Fabric Library

Three colours, each made both ways: the shortest horizontal sheer cardTier 4

Telluride is the smallest of the three fabric collections for the Crestron Horizontal Sheer Shade: three colours, Dove, Dockside and Indigo Mood, each made in a translucent and a light-dimming version, six colourways in all. Inside the shade, 3-inch fabric vanes run between a pair of sheer layers. Opened, the vanes part to about 1.5 inches of view per gap, the figure on Crestron's spec sheet; closed, they overlap and screen the room; and raising the shade clears the glass altogether. Telluride sits in Tier 4, like Keystone and Vail, and the budget grid on this page shows that column.

A short card is quick to settle. Crestron samples its three horizontal sheer collections in a book of their own, so Telluride's six swatches come to the consultation with the other two, and the choice is made at the window in one sitting: the colour first, then the opacity. Translucent lets more daylight through with the vanes closed; light-dimming holds more back and is the version for a bedroom, though Crestron does not rate it a blackout. Three names means the scheme has to meet the card; where it will not, Keystone and Vail hold fourteen more colours between them.

Best Use & Limits

What Telluride does on your glass, and what it does not

Best use

One room or a few windows where the palette is already settled and a colour on the card fits it: a dressing room, a home office, the bedroom of a townhouse over a busy street. Light-dimming for the room someone sleeps in, translucent for a room used by day, and the same colour in both where two rooms sit side by side. For a whole floor, the longer cards give more to choose from.

Privacy

Closed vanes give privacy from outside by day and at night. Open vanes are for the view, and after dark with the room lit they show it, so they close at dusk, by hand on the clutch or on a schedule once a motor is fitted. Where the room faces a street or a neighbour's windows, choose light-dimming: a lit room shows less through it than through translucent.

Glare control

With the sun on the glass, the general rule for sheers applies through the open vanes: a paler fabric glows and hazes the view, a darker one keeps it clearer. Hold Dove, Dockside and Indigo Mood up at the window to see where each falls. Closed, light-dimming gives the lower light a screen wants and translucent the brighter one, and with no transmission figure published, that comparison is made against your own sun.

Limitations

The card is short, so a scheme that none of its colours suits moves to Keystone or Vail. Crestron's minimum width is 17.5 inches, which rules out a narrow sidelight beside a front door. Keep cleaning gentle and dry: dust it, vacuum it on a low setting or blow cool air across it, and never send the light-dimming version for ultrasonic cleaning.

Ts = solar energy transmitted, Rs = solar energy reflected, As = solar energy absorbed and Tv = visible light transmitted, in percent, as Crestron publishes them in its fabric shop and its Fabric Information Guide (revision 3.23.26) for each colourway; Ts, Rs and As add up to 100. Openness is Crestron's figure; width is the usable roll width. We bring samples of the colours you shortlist to the consultation.

What It Costs

What a Crestron horizontal sheer in Telluride costs

Crestron places every Telluride colourway in price Tier 4. Its budgetary guide of June 2022 prices roller shades only and gives no figure for the Horizontal Sheer Shade, so we do not print one here: we quote the finished shade at the measure, with the fascia, the motor or the manual clutch, and the control.

South Florida

Where Telluride works here

Telluride is our card for one room rather than a whole floor: a street-side guest suite in a Delray Beach house, a study in a Las Olas townhouse, a Palm Beach cottage bedroom facing the neighbours. A room used a few weeks a year can run on the manual clutch, with a motor added later if it joins the home's Crestron scenes. We keep it on glass that stays closed, because salt-laden air and rain blowing in through an open window wear the fabric sooner, by Crestron's account.

Telluride is the short end of the horizontal sheer range, three colours to Vail's five and Keystone's nine, with every colour made both ways as on Vail; where a room wants a sheer without vanes, Perla is the flat Coulisse roller sheer at Tier 2, and the only other card in the library with a colour called Dove.

Good to Know

Telluride: frequently asked

Will light-dimming Telluride make a bedroom dark enough to sleep in?

Darker, not dark. Light-dimming is the right Telluride for a bedroom, but it is a dimming fabric rather than a blackout, and light also finds the edges: roughly 3/4 inch down each side, the same side gap a roller leaves, and a little along the bottom, where the vanes do not close tightly. For sleep past sunrise, add a blackout roller behind it where the opening has the depth, and keep the Telluride for the evening and the day.

Why does a Telluride window have to be measured so exactly?

Because Crestron builds the horizontal sheer to the exact height of the opening. A roller shade is usually ordered with a little margin; this shade is not, so the height we send Crestron is the height it is made to, and there is no spare length to absorb a mistake. We take the final measurements ourselves on site before the order goes in, and our measuring guide sets out the general method.

Is Telluride Dove the same colour as Perla Dove?

Not necessarily. Dove is a name on both cards, but Telluride is a horizontal sheer fabric and Perla is a Coulisse sheer for a flat roller shade, two different fabrics from two different sample books. Where a house pairs them, a Perla roller in the living room and a Telluride shade in the bedroom, we hold the two swatches together at the window and match them by eye, never by name.
