For Architects

Pocket and recess details, Lutron specification per opening, fabric data in the mills' own figures and a crew that walks the framing with your electrician: window treatments drawn into the building rather than hung on it.

For Architects

Treatments that belong to the architecture

The best window treatment is the one the building was drawn for: a pocket in the ceiling plane so the shade disappears when it is up, a track recessed flush so the sheer hangs from nothing, power and bus where the motor will be, and a fabric whose figures were chosen, not guessed. We do that part with you, early, in the units your consultants use.

Reference projects: a 12,000 sq ft Lutron Palladiom estate in Fort Lauderdale, every treatment recessed into a stepped, curved oceanfront ceiling at Trump Tower III, and a six-villa Lutron myRoom program in Turks and Caicos.

What You Get

Documentation your consultants can build from

Pocket and recess details

Pocket width and depth per treatment and motor, Blindspace concealment boxes with CAD details, access panels, and the drywall return that keeps the light gap honest. Recessed treatments.

Per-opening system specification

Lutron Palladiom or Sivoia QS, Crestron or Somfy SDN per opening, with motor, power, bus and keypad schedules that match your window tags.

Fabric data, published

Openness, Ts, Rs, Tv, fire listings and roll widths from the mills, on every fabric page, so the solar control in the energy model is the fabric that gets installed.

Coupled and oversized glass

Shades to 144 in wide in one piece, coupled beyond that with the joint drawn to the mullion; drapery tracks to 36 ft; curved and bent tracks to the measured wall angle.

Meetings and walks

Design development, pre-wire walk with the electrician at framing, and the punch list. We leave the pocket dimensions on the wall.

Submittals

Fabric cuttings, shop drawings, motor data sheets and fire certificates in one package.

Sequence

Where we sit in the project

1. Design development

Treatment type, pocket strategy and control platform settled per elevation; budgetary numbers per opening.

2. Construction documents

Pocket details, Blindspace models, power and bus locations and the motor schedule issued to the set.

3. Framing and pre-wire

Site walk with the electrician against our pre-wire guide; pocket dimensions verified before drywall.

4. Finish

Site measure after paint, fabrication in our workroom, installation and commissioning into the control system.

Good to Know

Frequently asked

What do you need from us to size a shade pocket?

The ceiling build-up, the glass head height, the treatment (roller, dual roller, drapery, both) and the motor system. We return the pocket width and depth, the access side and the Blindspace box model where one fits, with CAD details. Our pocket page gives the typical dimensions.

Can you specify Lutron per opening?

Yes. Palladiom or Sivoia QS roller and drapery systems per opening, with motor, power supply, bus and keypad counts your electrical engineer can build from, in a schedule that matches your window tags. See Palladiom and Sivoia QS.

What is the largest single shade?

One roller shade up to 144 in wide by 120 in tall on our standard systems; wider glass is built as coupled shades on one motor, and we draw the joint where the mullion falls. Drapery tracks run to 36 ft on Somfy Glydea in one motor.

Do you attend design and site meetings?

Yes, from design development through framing walks and the punch list. The pre-wire visit with the electrician is the one we insist on.

Which fabrics are specifiable?

Every fabric in our online libraries carries the mill's published figures: openness, solar and visible transmittance, reflectance, fire listings, roll widths. Lutron, Mermet, Phifer, Crestron and Alendel for drapery.

Do architects get the trade discount?

Yes, 10% for registered architects, and program terms on multi-unit work, quoted in writing.
