How to Program Somfy Motors
Pair a remote, set the limits and the "my" position, reset and troubleshoot Somfy RTS, WireFree, Zigbee, wired, SDN and PoE motors, Glydea and Irismo drapery, blind motors and Maestria screens, from Somfy's own instructions.
Find your motor, then follow its steps
Somfy programs by family, not by size. Most RTS motors pair remotes and set their "my" position the same way, but a Sonesse 30 RTS resets from a button on its head while an Altus RTS resets by cutting its power twice. Zigbee motors pair differently again, and switch-wired, SDN and PoE motors are set up by the installer. Find your family in the table, then follow its steps.
How we wrote this page. Every step comes from Somfy's own instructions and databooks; the main documents are linked at the end of each section. Where two Somfy documents disagree, we follow the newer one or the version most of Somfy's documents print, or describe the step by what the shade does: it jogs, a brief up-and-down move that confirms the step. Work that needs installer software, a pro app account or the wiring is marked as installer work. Updated October 2026.
Common questions, short answers
How do I add a remote to my Somfy shade?
On a remote that already works the shade, press and hold PROG until the shade jogs. Then briefly press PROG on the new remote: the shade jogs again and the remote is paired. On multi-channel remotes, select the channel on each one first. Zigbee shades pair differently.
Full stepsHow do I set the "my" position?
On most RTS motors, stop the shade where you want it with my, then press and hold my until the shade jogs. A brief press on my later sends the shade there; to delete it, send the shade there and hold my until it jogs. On Zigbee shades, a quick double press on my sends the shade there.
Full stepsHow do I reset a Somfy motor?
It depends on the motor. On a Sonesse 30 RTS or a WireFree RTS motor, hold the programming button on the motor head: release at the second jog to erase the remotes, at the third to erase everything (WireFree Zigbee motors: hold to the third jog only). On a Sonesse ULTRA 50 RTS or an Altus RTS, cut the power to that motor only (2 seconds off, 10 seconds on, 2 seconds off, then on), then hold PROG on a remote until the second jog. If other motors share the circuit, every motor that loses power enters the same mode.
Full stepsHow do I charge a Somfy WireFree motor?
For a built-in battery, plug the Somfy charger into the charging port on the motor head, then into an outlet. Its light is red while charging and turns green when the battery is full. You can use the shade while it charges; Somfy rates a full charge at about a year with one up-and-down cycle a day (Roll Up 24: twice a year). Motors with an external battery pack charge at the pack.
Full stepsHow do I reset a Somfy Zigbee motor?
Hold the programming button on the motor head until the light blinks amber and the shade jogs 3 times, then release. This erases the remotes, limits, "my" position and network pairings, and the motor waits 3 minutes to be set up again.
Full stepsHow do I turn Touch Motion on or off on a Glydea drapery?
Move the drapery away from the ends of the track. Hold Open and Close together until it jogs, then again: each further hold moves to the next setting (high sensitivity, low, off). Hold my until it jogs to save. Do not save right after the first jog: that reverses the drapery instead.
Full stepsWhich Somfy motor do you have?
Somfy prints the model on the motor label. If the label is out of sight, these clues from Somfy's documents narrow it down.

How Somfy RTS programming works
Applies to: all Somfy RTS motors and controls on this page.
RTS (Radio Technology Somfy) is Somfy's radio control for shades, awnings and screens; the signal passes through walls, so you never aim the remote. Each motor stores its stopping points (limits), one favorite position and up to 12 controls, and confirms each programming step by moving. First-time setup (direction and limits) is normally done when the motor is installed; the setup steps below are for a motor that was reset or replaced. Adding remotes and setting the favorite position are yours to do.
How to tell your system is RTS: the remote or switch has UP, my (or STOP) and DOWN buttons and a small programming button, usually recessed on the back.
You need: a working control (or the motor's head button, if it has one) and a paper clip for recessed buttons.
Words used in these steps
- Jog: a brief up-and-down movement that confirms a step.
- Limits: the top and bottom positions where the shade stops by itself.
- "my": one favorite position between the limits; while the shade moves, my stops it.
- Programming mode: for setting limits and pairing; the shade moves only while you hold a button, reception is reduced (stand close), and it ends after 2 minutes without a command.
- Press and hold: keep pressing until the shade jogs. Briefly press: the shade jogs after you let go.
Add a remote or wall switch
- On a control that already works the shade, select the shade's channel (multi-channel controls only).
- Press and hold its PROG button until the shade jogs.
- On the new control, select a channel (multi-channel controls only).
- Briefly press the new control's PROG button. The shade jogs: it is paired.
No working control? If the motor has a programming button on its head, hold it until the shade jogs once, then let go and do steps 3 and 4. On the Sonesse ULTRA 50 DC RTS, hold its three head buttons together until the shade jogs once, then let go. A second jog erases every remote, a third erases everything.
Remove a remote
- On a control that will stay paired, press and hold PROG until the shade jogs. Never start with the one you are removing.
- On the control to remove, select its channel (multi-channel controls only).
- Briefly press its PROG button. The shade jogs: that control is deleted.
A lost control cannot be removed this way: erase all controls (Resets) and pair the others again.
Set, use, change or delete the "my" position
- Move the shade and press my to stop it where you want it.
- Press and hold my until the shade jogs (about 5 seconds). The position is saved, replacing any earlier one.
To use it, briefly press my while the shade is stopped; if it is moving, press twice. To delete it, press my to send the shade there, then press and hold my until it jogs.
Resets: programming button or power cut
- Head-button motors (Sonesse 30 RTS 24V DC, WireFree RTS, and the ULTRA 50 DC RTS with its three head buttons): hold the head button and count the jogs. One: ready to pair a control. Two: all controls erased. Three: factory reset, limits too. WireFree Zigbee motors reset only at the third jog (Zigbee reset).
- Power-cut motors (Sonesse ULTRA 50 RTS, Altus RTS): cut the power twice to that motor only, then press PROG on a control to pair a replacement, or hold it to the second jog to erase the motor. If other motors share the circuit, every motor that loses power enters the same mode, so a single PROG press re-pairs or erases all of them.
- Sonesse 40 RTS and 50 RTS: see Reset a wired motor.
Careful: let go at the right jog. Holding too long erases more than you meant, and after a factory reset the limits must be set again.
Troubleshooting: any RTS motor
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The motor does not work | Control battery low | Replace it; a good battery makes the control's light flash |
| The motor does not work | Control not programmed into the motor | Pair the control |
| The motor stops after continuous use | Thermal protection | Let the motor cool down |
| The motor ignores the control during programming | Reception is reduced in programming mode | Move the control closer to the motor head |

Somfy WireFree battery motors (RTS)
Models: Sonesse 28 WireFree RTS (Li-ion or External Battery); Sonesse ULTRA 30 WireFree RTS (Li-ion); Sonesse 40 WireFree RTS (Li-ion); Roll Up 24 WireFree RTS (Li-ion); Roll Up 28 WireFree RTS V2 (Li-ion or External Battery).
WireFree motors run on a 12 V lithium-ion battery, built in or in a separate pack, and answer any RTS control. You can charge, pair, pause and reset them yourself; replacing a built-in battery is professional work.
How to tell you have one: no power cord runs to the wall; the motor head has a recessed button, a light and a thin antenna wire, plus a charging port on built-in Li-ion motors.
You need: a charged battery, the Somfy charger for your motor or pack (see batteries and chargers), an RTS control and a paper clip.
Wake up and set up a new motor
- Make sure the battery is charged (Charge a built-in battery).
- Built-in Li-ion: briefly press the button on the motor head, or plug in the charger. The shade jogs and the light turns orange. External battery: plug the battery into the motor cable.
- Press and hold UP and DOWN together until the shade jogs.
- Check the direction and set the limits as in steps 3 to 8 of Set up a new motor; the light blinks green 5 times as each limit is stored.
- Briefly press PROG on the back of the control. The shade jogs and the light blinks green 5 times: the control is paired.
The motor leaves programming mode after 2 minutes without a command and goes back to sleep after 15 minutes untouched; wake it the same way. Limits are fine-tuned as in Fine-tune a limit.
Add a remote from the motor head
If no remote works yet, start at the motor; otherwise use Add a remote.
- Press and hold the button on the motor head until the shade jogs once, then release. The light blinks orange slowly.
- Briefly press PROG on the new remote. The shade jogs and the light blinks green 5 times: the remote is paired.
Reset a WireFree RTS motor
- With a paper clip, press and hold the button on the motor head.
- Release after the third jog. All settings are erased; the light blinks green 5 times, then stays orange.
- Set the motor up again from step 3 of Wake up and set up.
Release after the second jog to erase only the paired remotes. The WireFree instructions describe no power-cut reset.
Sleep mode: pause the remotes
Sleep mode makes a programmed motor ignore its remotes for a while, then ends by itself.
- Press and hold the button on the motor head until the shade jogs, then release.
- Briefly press the button again. The shade jogs twice: sleep mode is on.
- To end it early, briefly press the button once more. The shade jogs.
Charge a built-in battery
- Plug the small connector of the Somfy charger (#9025166) into the charging port on the motor head.
- Plug the charger into an outlet. Its light is red while charging.
- When the light turns green, disconnect the charger from the motor, then unplug it.
You can use the shade while it charges. Somfy rates a full charge at about a year with one up-and-down cycle a day (Roll Up 24: twice a year).
Charge an external battery pack
- Plug the charger (#9025166) into the Li-ion pack (#9021217). If the port is hidden, first unplug the pack and lift it out of its brackets.
- Plug the charger into an outlet. Its light is red while charging and turns green when the pack is full.
- Disconnect the charger from the pack, then unplug it from the outlet.
- Refit and reconnect the pack, with cords clear of the shade and the motor antenna exposed.
The USB-C pack (#9028930) uses the USB-C Li-ion Fast Charger (#9028923): its light flashes green while charging and stays green when full. Never unplug a battery while the motor is running.
Add a solar panel
- Kit #9027294 suits V2 Li-ion motors and pack #9021217; panel #9029114 suits the USB-C pack. Connect one panel per motor, to the motor or its pack; no reprogramming is needed.
- Mount it indoors in direct sun, never on glass with under 65% light transmission (including Low E or tint), behind another pane or a bug screen.
What the motor light means
| Light | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Orange, blinking | Programming mode | Finish the limits and pair a remote |
| Orange, steady | Not set, no remote paired | Do the setup |
| Red, 5 blinks when you press a button | Battery low | Charge the battery |
| Red, slow blinks for 3 seconds before and after moving | Battery at 5% or less | Charge the battery |
| Red, steady | Obstacle; with the USB-C pack, it can also mean the pack is critical | Remove the obstacle, or move the shade the other way; USB-C pack: charge it |
| Red, 2 blinks, repeating | Shade outside its limits | Set the limits |
| Red, blinking continuously | Thermal protection | Let the motor cool down |
| 3 short moves each way, red blinks 3 and 3 | Setting refused: 12 remotes stored, a value at its limit, or limits too close | Erase remotes, redo the setting or readjust the limits |
With the USB-C pack, a delayed start with 2 red blinks means the pack is low.
Careful: do not cut or lengthen the antenna wire, and keep it exposed and off metal. Use only the Somfy charger, charge between 32°F and 113°F (0 to 45 °C), and keep both away from flame, moisture and heat of 140°F (60 °C) or more. Only a professional should replace a built-in battery, with an identical model.
Troubleshooting: WireFree motors
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The shade does not operate (external battery) | Battery pack low | Charge the battery |
| The shade does not operate and the light never comes on | Radio switched off (a storage setting) | Briefly press the button on the motor head |
| The shade stops too soon | Limits set wrong, shade too heavy, or battery low | Reset the limits, replace the shade or charge the battery |

Somfy RTS motors on wired power: Sonesse and Altus
Models: Sonesse 30 RTS 24V DC; Sonesse 40 RTS 404S2, 406A2, 409R2; Sonesse 506S2 and 510S2 RTS; Sonesse ULTRA 506A2 RTS and 504 A8 DC RTS; Altus RTS (40, 50 and 60 mm).
These tubular motors run on 120 V AC (the Sonesse 30 RTS and ULTRA 50 DC RTS on 24 V DC), and any RTS control operates them. You can add or remove remotes, set "my" and fine-tune a limit; a reset that needs the power cut is electrician work if the motor is hardwired and cannot be unplugged.
How to tell you have one: the Sonesse 30 RTS has a programming button (and, on current motors, a light) on its head; the ULTRA 50 DC RTS has a square head with UP, STOP, DWN and a light. On the 120 V Sonesse and Altus 40 and 50 motors, the power cord doubles as the antenna.
You need: an RTS control, power to this motor only during setup, and a paper clip for the Sonesse 30 head button.
Set up a new motor
- Switch on power to this motor only.
- Press and hold UP and DOWN together until the shade jogs. The motor is in programming mode.
- Press DOWN. If the shade goes up, press and hold my until it jogs to reverse the direction.
- Bring the shade to the top position you want.
- Press and hold my and DOWN until the shade starts down, then release. The top limit is stored.
- Press my to stop the shade at the bottom position you want.
- Press and hold my and UP until the shade starts up, then release. The bottom limit is stored.
- Press and hold my until the shade jogs. The limits are saved.
- Press PROG on the back of the control until the shade jogs. The control is paired.
If limit setting goes wrong, switch the power off for 2 seconds and on again, then restart at step 2. Sonesse 30 RTS light: orange blinking in programming mode, green 5 blinks per saved step. ULTRA 50 DC RTS: the head buttons can replace the control.
Fine-tune a limit
- Send the shade to the limit you want to change.
- Press and hold UP and DOWN together until the shade jogs.
- Move the shade to the new position.
- Press and hold my until the shade jogs. The new limit is saved.
Reset a wired motor or replace a lost remote
Sonesse 30 RTS 24V DC
With a paper clip, press and hold the programming button on the motor head. Release after the third jog to erase controls and limits (the light blinks green 5 times, then stays orange), after the second to erase only the controls, or at the first and briefly press PROG on a new remote to pair it.
Sonesse ULTRA 50 DC RTS
Press and hold UP, STOP and DWN on the head together. Release after 3 up-and-down movements to erase everything (the light comes on), or after 2 to erase only the controls.
Sonesse ULTRA 50 RTS and Altus RTS (power cut)
- Move the shade to mid-height.
- Cut power to this motor for 2 seconds.
- Restore power for 10 seconds.
- Cut the power again for 2 seconds.
- Restore power. The shade moves for a few seconds, or jogs if it is at a limit; if an Altus does not move, repeat the power cuts.
- To reset the motor, press and hold PROG on a remote. The shade jogs; keep holding until it jogs again. All settings are erased.
Let go too early and you must start again from step 2. For a lost remote, press PROG on the new remote at step 6 only until the first jog; on the ULTRA 50 RTS this deletes the other remotes but keeps the limits and "my". Somfy's owner instructions for the Sonesse ULTRA 50 RTS and ULTRA 50 DC RTS send you to a professional to replace a lost or broken remote.
Sonesse 40 RTS and Sonesse 50 RTS
No reset is given here: Somfy's documents differ for the current Sonesse 40 RTS, and the Somfy documents behind this guide describe none for the Sonesse 50 RTS. We service and reprogram motorized systems, including ones we did not install: contact us.
Careful: cut power only to the motor you are resetting; every motor on the same circuit enters the same mode, so one PROG press would re-pair or erase all of them. On the Sonesse ULTRA 50 RTS and ULTRA 50 DC RTS, do not leave the power off for more than a week, or the limits can drift. Never shorten a power cord below 12 inches: it is the antenna.
Model differences
| Motor | Buttons on the motor | Reset |
|---|---|---|
| Sonesse 30 RTS 24V DC | Programming button; light on current motors | Head button, 3 jogs |
| Sonesse ULTRA 50 DC RTS | UP, STOP, DWN, light | Three head buttons, 3 movements |
| Sonesse ULTRA 50 RTS, Altus RTS | None described | Power cut, then PROG |
| Sonesse 40 RTS | Documents differ | Not given here |
| Sonesse 50 RTS | None described | None described |
Troubleshooting: wired RTS motors
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Sonesse 30 RTS: light steady orange | Motor neither set nor paired | Do the setup |
| Sonesse 30 RTS: light steady red | Obstacle | Remove the obstacle |
| Sonesse 30 RTS: light blinks red twice, over and over | Shade outside its limits | Set the limits |
| The shade stops too soon or too late | Limits drifted or not set properly | Readjust the limit |

Somfy RTS remotes, wall switches and the TaHoma app
Models: Situo RTS (1, 5, 5 Variation); Telis RTS (1 and 4 Patio, 16, 1 Chronis); Smoove (1 RTS II, Origin RTS); DecoFlex WireFree RTS (1 to 5 channels, 3-Button, Surface, Table Top); URTSI II; RTS Repeater; TaHoma switch.
Any RTS control can run any RTS motor once paired, and each channel of a multi-channel control pairs separately. Pairing starts from a control that already works (Add a remote).
Where the programming button is: on the back of Situo, Telis and Smoove controls (recessed on Situo and Telis), on the face of DecoFlex WireFree switches, and inside the DecoFlex Surface module next to the battery.
You need: a paper clip and the right battery: CR2032 (Situo 1 and 5, Smoove 1 RTS II), CR2430 (Situo 5 Variation, Telis Patio, Smoove Origin, DecoFlex Surface), CR2450 (DecoFlex switch and 3-Button) or 2 AAA (Telis 1 Chronis).
Pick a channel
- Situo 5, Situo 5 Variation and Telis 4: press the channel selector. Lights 1 to 4 show the channel; all four lit means channel 5. The Situo 5 Variation also has a tilt wheel that turns the slats one notch at a time.
- Telis 16: use the arrow buttons; the screen shows the channel number and name.
- DecoFlex WireFree switch: press a channel button (its light comes on); select several to run them in turn.
Select the channel before you pair, set "my" or operate. A channel can run one shade or a group: pair each shade of the group to it.
Replace a lost remote with a new Situo
On a motor with a head programming button, the quickest way keeps the limits: hold the head button until the shade jogs once, then briefly press PROG on the new Situo (Situo 5: select the channel first). Somfy's Situo sheet starts over instead:
- Press and hold the programming button on the motor head until the shade jogs 3 times. Limits and remotes are erased.
- On the new Situo (Situo 5: select the channel first), press and hold UP and DOWN together until the shade jogs.
- Check the direction and set the limits as in steps 3 to 7 of Set up a new motor: my and DOWN store the top limit, my and UP the bottom one.
- Press and hold my until the shade jogs once. The limits are saved.
- Press and hold PROG on the back of the Situo until the shade jogs again. The Situo is now programmed.
- Test with UP and DOWN; if the limits are wrong, repeat.
Telis 1 and 4 RTS Patio
Remotes for awnings, screens and shutters; the Telis 4 has five channels. Add one from a paired Telis (Add a remote). With no Telis paired yet, on a motor with a programming button on its head:
- Press and hold the motor's programming button until the motor jogs once, then release.
- On a Telis 4, select the channel.
- Briefly press PROG on the back of the new Telis. The motor jogs: the Telis is paired.
- Press UP or DOWN to check; if nothing moves, repeat steps 1 to 3.
Release the motor button at the first jog: on Somfy motors with a head button, a second jog erases every paired control.
Telis 16 RTS: put shades on a channel
Each of its 16 named channels runs one shade or a group. Set each motor's limits and "my" with its own single-channel remote first.
- On the shade's own remote, press and hold PROG until the shade jogs. You then have 2 minutes.
- On the Telis 16, pick the channel with the arrow buttons.
- Briefly press PROG on the Telis 16. The shade jogs: it is on that channel.
- Repeat for each shade of the group. The same steps take a shade off a channel.
Telis 1 Chronis RTS timer
It sends one UP and one DOWN time a day (factory setting 7:30 am and 8:00 pm). Set the limits with another RTS remote first. To pair the Chronis, press and hold PROG on a remote already paired to the shade until the shade jogs, then press and hold PROG on the Chronis until the shade jogs again. To save the current time as the UP (or DOWN) time, select that time and hold UP (or DOWN) until SET appears and disappears.
Smoove wall switches
The Smoove 1 RTS II front buttons are off when new: long-press the On/Off button on the back of the module until the light shows green. Pair a Smoove as in Add a remote; the Smoove Origin sheet has you set the shade halfway first. Do not mount it on or near metal.
DecoFlex WireFree switches
- 1 to 5 channel switch and Table Top: hold the programming button of a paired switch or channel for 3 seconds until the motor confirms, select the new channel, then press its programming button for 1 second at most. Delete the same way, one channel at a time, starting with a different switch or channel than the one you are deleting.
- 3-Button: to set "my", stop where you want and hold STOP until the shade jogs. Surface: indoor or outdoor (IP54), not on metal.
URTSI II and the RTS Repeater
What it takes: the Universal RTS Interface II links a home automation system (infrared, RS232 or RS485) to up to 16 RTS channels.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
The RTS Repeater extends range and needs no programming: plug it into a 120 V outlet at least halfway between the controls and the shades.
Add an RTS motor to the TaHoma app
The TaHoma switch links RTS motors to the TaHoma by Somfy app on a phone or tablet (Bluetooth on). Set the motor's limits first.
- In the app, tap the Home icon, then "+", and choose the device type (for example Roller shade).
- Choose your control type and scan the QR code on its back, or follow the app if there is none.
- Choose the label on the control (for example RTS) and, if it has several, the channel.
- On the control already paired to the shade, press and hold PROG until the shade reacts, then tap "Next".
- When the search ends, tap the device found and test it.
- Tap "Yes" if it moved, or "Nothing happened" to repeat the pairing.
- Name the device, tap "Validate" and choose its room.
Troubleshooting: RTS controls
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The shade does not react to a Smoove | Battery weak, Smoove not programmed, or radio equipment nearby | Replace the battery, pair the Smoove, or switch off the other equipment |

Somfy Zigbee motors: Sonesse wired and WireFree
Models: Sonesse 28 WireFree Zigbee (Li-ion or External Battery); Sonesse ULTRA 30 WireFree Zigbee (Li-ion); Sonesse 30 Zigbee 24V DC; Sonesse 40 Zigbee 404S2, 406A2, 409R2 (120 V); Sonesse 40 WireFree Zigbee (Li-ion) (USB-C).
These roller shade motors use Zigbee, a two-way radio: the remote's light confirms each setting. They run from Ysia remotes alone or through a TaHoma switch and its app. You pair remotes, set the "my" favorite position, charge and reset; limit changes and advanced settings are installer work.
How to tell you have one: a status light and a small programming button on the motor head, and QR-code labels, one kept on the motor.
You need: a charged battery or power, a Ysia Zigbee remote (Situo Zigbee remotes cannot pair directly) and a paper clip.
First setup
Somfy recommends the TaHoma pro app; a Ysia remote alone also works (steps below). What it takes: TaHoma pro and a Somfy Pro account, to scan the motor's QR code, set direction and limits, and adjust speed or tilting travel.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Pair a Zigbee motor to TaHoma
Somfy's TaHoma pro guide sets the order for bringing a home's Zigbee products onto a TaHoma switch:
- Set every motor's limits first.
- Connect the switch to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi; a solid white bottom light means online.
- Add wired motors (they act as repeaters, relaying the signal), then battery motors, scanning each motor's QR label.
- Add each remote last: hold its PROG 7 seconds and release (solid green, two red blinks), then link it to its shades in the app.
Joining TaHoma deletes a motor's existing remote pairings; afterwards, manage remotes in the app.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Set up a motor with a Ysia remote (no hub)
- Wake the motor: briefly press the head button with a paper clip, or plug in the charger or battery; the shade jogs (a brief up-and-down move). Wired motors: switch on the power.
- The light should blink amber (programming mode, 3 minutes). If not, hold the head button about 3 seconds, until the shade jogs once, then let go; the light then blinks amber. Holding on to the third jog (about 15 seconds) resets the motor.
- Select the channel (Ysia 5). Within 5 feet, briefly press UP and DOWN together: the nearest motor in programming mode jogs. Wrong shade? Press again. A red remote light means none was found.
- Press UP. If the shade goes down, hold my until it jogs.
- Hold UP to the top position, then press my and DOWN together. The shade jogs: top limit set.
- Hold DOWN to the bottom position, then press my and UP together. The shade jogs: bottom limit set.
- Briefly press PROG on the back of the remote. The shade jogs and the remote's light turns solid green, then off: set and paired.
Limits can be set in either order.
Add a remote
Shades on a TaHoma switch: add or remove remotes in the TaHoma app instead.
First remote on a set motor: hold the head button about 3 seconds, until the shade jogs once, then let go; the light then blinks amber. Holding on to the third jog (about 15 seconds) resets the motor. Select the channel (Ysia 5), then briefly press PROG on the remote nearby. The shade jogs.
A second remote must first join the existing remote's network, away from the motors:
- On the new remote, hold PROG until the light goes off after the third red blink; it then blinks amber. Use a new or unused remote: this resets it.
- Next to it, briefly press PROG on the existing remote. The new remote's light turns green.
- Pair it to each shade as above, then test every shade and re-pair any that stopped responding.
Remove a remote
Shades on a TaHoma switch: add or remove remotes in the TaHoma app instead.
- Select the channel (Ysia 5) and hold PROG on the remote until the shade jogs (about 3 seconds).
- Near the motor, briefly press UP and DOWN together. The shade jogs.
- Hold PROG until the remote's light turns solid green, then red (about 5 seconds), then let go at once. The shade jogs: removed. Holding on to a second red blink takes the remote off its network.
A motor reset removes every remote, including lost ones.
Set and use "my"
- Stop the shade where you want it with my.
- Hold my until the shade jogs, then release: saved.
- To go there, press my twice quickly; one press stops a moving shade.
One "my" per motor: a new one replaces it, and a factory reset clears it.
Change a limit
What it takes: the paired remote (hold PROG until a jog, press UP and DOWN, move the shade, press my and DOWN for the top or my and UP for the bottom, then hold UP and DOWN) or TaHoma pro; Somfy says the installer should do it.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Reset the motor
- Hold the head button until the light blinks amber and the shade jogs 3 times (about 15 seconds), then release.
- The motor waits 3 minutes in programming mode: set it up again.
This permanently erases remotes, limits, advanced settings, "my" and network pairings, as does "Reset device" in TaHoma pro.
Leave a network
A factory reset takes a motor off its network. Resetting a Ysia takes its motors off too, keeping their limits, with 10 minutes to be paired again.
Charging, battery signs and lights
- Plug the motor's own charger into the charging port on the motor head. The motor's light blinks green while charging.
- At solid green, unplug the charger.
Recharge about once a year (average shade, one cycle a day); charging takes under 4 to 5 hours (Sonesse 40 WireFree Zigbee: 4 hours, USB-C charger #9028923), at 32°F to 104°F.
| Motor light | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Amber, blinking | Programming mode |
| Red, 3 blinks when you press a paired remote's button (built-in battery) | Battery low: plug in the charger |
| The shade starts late and the light blinks red twice (USB-C battery pack) | The pack is low: charge it; a steady red light means it is critical |
| Red on, then off | Thermal protection: let it cool |
| Red, blinking | Obstacle: remove it |
| Red, 2 blinks, repeating | Outside its limits: needs readjusting |
Model differences
- Sonesse 28 and ULTRA 30 WireFree Zigbee (Li-ion): their sheets print identical steps.
- Sonesse 30 and 40 Zigbee (wired): power-on puts a new motor in programming mode; nothing to charge. The Sonesse 40 Zigbee sheet prints no "my" steps; use the ones above.
- Sonesse 28 WireFree Zigbee (External Battery): Somfy's general Zigbee steps above apply; its battery is a separate pack.
This guide gives no steps for the Sonesse 40 WireFree Zigbee.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Careful: program one motor at a time with the remote within 5 feet; reception is reduced in programming mode. Never unplug the battery while the motor runs, and never cut the antenna wire.
Troubleshooting: Zigbee motors
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The shade does not respond | Motor not set, or remote not paired | Set it up or pair the remote |
| Pairing fails | Remote too far away | Try again closer to the motor |
| The remote's light stays off | Remote batteries low | Replace them |
| The shade stops too soon or too late | Limits slipped, or shade too heavy | Have the limits readjusted |

Somfy Zigbee remotes, DecoFlex keypads and TaHoma switch
Models: Ysia 1 and Ysia 5 Zigbee; Ysia 1 and 5 Variation Zigbee; Ysia 5 TDBU Zigbee; DecoFlex WireFree Zigbee (surface-mount or in-wall); TaHoma switch.
Ysia remotes pair directly to Zigbee motors; DecoFlex WireFree Zigbee keypads are programmed only in the TaHoma pro app; the TaHoma switch brings Zigbee and RTS shades into the TaHoma app.
How to tell you have one: a Ysia has UP, my, DOWN, a light on top and PROG on the back; a DecoFlex has UP, MY/STOP and DOWN per channel; the TaHoma switch has Scene 1, Stop and Scene 2 buttons.
You need: 2 AAA (LR03) alkaline batteries per remote or keypad (never rechargeables in a DecoFlex), and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi for a TaHoma switch.
Channels and the remote's light
On a Ysia 5, the channel selector steps through the channels; all 4 lights on means channel 5.
| Remote light | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green, steady | Setting confirmed by the motor |
| Amber, blinking | Setting mode or scanning |
| Red, 3 blinks | Setting or command failed: check the batteries |
Run several shades from one channel
- Hold the next motor's head button about 3 seconds, until the shade jogs once, then let go; its light then blinks amber. Holding on to the third jog (about 15 seconds) resets the motor.
- Within 5 feet, select the channel and briefly press PROG on the remote. The shade jogs.
- Repeat for each shade, then test.
Reset a Ysia remote
- Hold PROG until the light blinks red 3 times (about 15 seconds), then release. The light blinks amber: the remote is reset.
Motor limits are kept; its motors leave the network and wait 10 minutes to be paired again. Releasing at the second red blink sends the remote looking for a TaHoma switch.
Change the batteries
- Ysia: press below the channel selector and slide the cover down; do not mix old and new batteries.
- DecoFlex: surface-mount, push the bottom tab with a flat-head screwdriver and lift the front plate; in-wall, remove the front plate, screws and battery door.
Program a DecoFlex WireFree Zigbee keypad
What it takes: the TaHoma pro app; the in-wall version is programmed before it is mounted.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
TaHoma switch lights
| Light | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Bottom, solid white | Online |
| Bottom, red | Not connected to the cloud server |
| Top, blinking red | Connection outage |
Ysia TDBU and Ysia Variation
- Ysia 5 TDBU Zigbee: joystick one moves the middle bar, joystick two the lower bar; the lock button lets them move both bars together. my: once to stop, twice for the favorite, hold to save or erase it.
- Ysia Variation Zigbee: adds a variator to tilt slats or vary lighting.
Careful: sharing a network can drop earlier pairings, so keep remotes away from the motors while sharing and test afterwards. Do not unplug the TaHoma switch during an update.
Troubleshooting: Zigbee controls
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No light when you press a button | Batteries low | Change them |
| The light blinks red when you press a button | Command failed, empty channel, or remote not on the shared network | Check the batteries first, and that the selected channel has a shade on it. If the red blinks began after you added a second remote, repeat the network sharing for that new remote only: reset the new remote, never the one that already works. |
| Products will not set or pair | Not in programming mode | Make sure each one blinks amber |
| The TaHoma switch's bottom light is red | Connection failure | Select "Retry" in the app |

Somfy Glydea ULTRA drapery motors
Models: Glydea ULTRA 35 and 60 Motor RTS and Motor DCT (10' plug), Wired Motor (no plug); RS485 (SDN, 2-way) and Zigbee (2-way) Modules for Glydea ULTRA; Glydea ULTRA 50 WireFree Zigbee.
These motors pull drapery along a track and learn its end stops on their first run. The RTS version takes a Somfy radio remote, the DCT a wired dry contact switch, the Wired version an AC wall switch. You can pair remotes, set "my", switch Touch Motion and change speed. Somfy writes setup, resets and the add-on modules for installers; the setup and reset steps are below for reference, and the modules are installer work.
How to tell you have one: a 10 ft cord with a molded plug (RTS, DCT) or a 5 ft four-wire cable (Wired); on the motor's underside, an RJ12 socket, holes marked S and M, and a SILENT / HI-SPEED switch. Somfy's Pocket Guide pictures the S button with the bottom cover off, and Somfy's 2017 DCT sheet draws one unmarked button below the socket instead of S and M.
You need: the motor's remote or switch, power to this drapery only during setup, and a pin for the S button.
Add or remove a remote (RTS version)
As on any RTS motor (add, remove): hold PROG on a working remote until the drapery jogs (moves briefly back and forth), then briefly press PROG on the remote to add or remove.
Set, use or delete the "my" position
- Press Open or Close, then briefly press my to stop the drapery where you want it.
- Press and hold my until the drapery jogs. The favorite position is saved.
To use it, briefly press my while stopped; to delete it, send the drapery there and hold my until it jogs. DCT version: use Stop.
Turn Touch Motion on or off
Touch Motion starts the drapery when you pull the fabric.
- Move the drapery away from the ends of the track.
- Press and hold Open and Close together until the drapery jogs.
- Press and hold them again until it jogs. Each hold moves to the next setting: high sensitivity, low, off, then high again.
- Press and hold my until the drapery jogs to save.
Do not skip the second hold: holding my right after the first jog reverses the drapery's direction instead. DCT version: start with Open, Stop and Close together and let go as soon as the drapery moves once (holding on to three moves erases everything); then hold Open and Close together until it moves to change the setting, and save with Stop. Here too, do not hold Stop right after the first move: that changes the direction instead.
Change the speed or choose silent mode
Slide the SILENT / HI-SPEED selector on the motor: silent runs at 7.5 cm/s (2.95 in/s); HI-SPEED, the default, is adjustable.
- On HI-SPEED, press and hold Open and my together until the drapery moves back and forth.
- Press Open for faster or Close for slower: 12.5, 15 (default), 17.5 or 20 cm/s.
- Press and hold my until the drapery jogs to save.
DCT version: start with Open and Stop and save with Stop.
First setup (RTS version)
- Pull the drapery by hand to the middle of the track.
- Plug in this motor only.
- Press and hold Open and Close together until the drapery jogs. The remote is pre-programmed.
- Briefly press Open or Close. The drapery runs by itself to record both end stops.
- Press Open. If the drapery closes, press and hold my (about 2 seconds) until it jogs: the direction is reversed.
- Press and hold PROG on the back of the remote until the drapery jogs. The remote is recorded.
First setup (DCT version)
- Switch on the power.
- Press Open (top button) or Close (bottom). The drapery makes a first run to record the end stops.
- Press Open. If the drapery closes, press and hold Stop (middle) for about 2 seconds until it jogs: the direction is reversed.
Steps from Somfy's 2023 sheet; older units may differ.
Fine-tune where the drapery stops
- Send the drapery to the end you want to change.
- Press and hold Open and Close together until the drapery jogs.
- Move the drapery to the new position with Open or Close.
- Press and hold my until it jogs. The new end stop is saved.
DCT version: hold Open, Stop and Close in step 2 and let go as soon as the drapery moves once (holding on to three moves erases everything); hold Stop in step 4. To reverse direction later (RTS), do step 2 away from the ends, then hold my until it jogs.
Erase the remotes or reset the motor
- Push a pin into the S hole on the motor's underside and hold it.
- Release after two jogs to erase every remote; the end stops and "my" stay.
- Or hold until three jogs to erase everything, end stops and "my" included, then set it up again.
DCT: hold Open, Stop and Close, or S, until three moves. Wired: hold S until three moves.
After erasing the remotes, pair one again: hold the pin in S until the drapery jogs once, let go, then briefly press PROG on the remote. The drapery jogs: it is paired. Somfy's owner instructions send you to a professional to replace a lost or broken remote on this motor.
Wired version settings
What it takes: a permanently powered live wire and a paper clip for the M (Mode) and S (Set) buttons. Hold M until the light turns green; S then changes direction, back-release position and speed, each confirmed with M.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
RS485 (SDN) module
What it takes: the module inserts into the bottom of the motor and joins an SDN (Somfy Digital Network) bus for up to 16 intermediate positions and 16 groups, reporting the real position even after a hand move. On RTS motors, the first remote is paired with the module out.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Zigbee module
What it takes: the plug-in Zigbee (2-Way) Module pairs a Glydea ULTRA 35 or 60 with Ysia Zigbee remotes and TaHoma. Somfy recommends the TaHoma pro app for setup; on drapery, UP opens and DOWN closes.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Everyday use: Zigbee "my".
Glydea ULTRA 50 WireFree Zigbee
This battery version runs on a rechargeable 21.9 V lithium-ion pack charged by USB-C (under 4 hours to 80%), with Zigbee 3.0 and Bluetooth; speed, scenes and timers are set in the app. This guide gives no steps for pairing or setting it up.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Model differences
Same steps for both sizes; the 60 carries up to 132 lb on tracks to 36 ft, the 35 up to 77 lb on 32 ft.
Careful: program one drapery at a time. Disconnect the motor before cleaning or maintenance, and keep people clear while the drapery moves.
Troubleshooting: Glydea ULTRA
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The drapery does not move | Wiring incorrect | Check and reconnect the power supply |
| The drapery does not move | Remote battery weak, or control not compatible | Replace the battery or the control |
| The drapery does not move | Remote not programmed into the motor | Use a programmed remote or program this one |
| The drapery does not move | Thermal protection | Wait for the motor to cool down |

Somfy Irismo drapery motors: plug-in and WireFree
Models: Irismo 35 (Mini DC) DCT and RTS (24 V DC power supply included); Irismo 45 WireFree RTS (rechargeable battery); RS485 (SDN) modules for Irismo.
Irismo motors drive indoor curtain tracks: the Irismo 35 on 24 V DC, the Irismo 45 WireFree on a rechargeable battery. Most remote steps match the Glydea ULTRA's. You can pair remotes, set "my", change Touch Motion and speed, and charge. Somfy writes the setup for installers; those steps are below for reference, and SDN is installer work.
How to tell you have one: Irismo 35: a power supply plugged into the motor, an RJ12 socket and a small PROG hole in the head. Irismo 45: a battery pack twisted onto the motor's bottom, an LED button, and beeps.
You need: your RTS remote (on the DCT, the DCT setting tool), a pin for the Irismo 35, and for the WireFree, Somfy's own charger.
Add or remove a remote (RTS versions)
As on any RTS motor: add or remove; the drapery moves to confirm.
Set, use or delete "my"
- Press Open or Close, then briefly press my to stop the drapery where you want it.
- Press and hold my about 5 seconds until the drapery moves: saved.
To use it, briefly press my while stopped; to delete it, send the drapery there and hold my until it moves. On the DCT, use Stop.
Touch Motion, speed and end stops
For Touch Motion and end stops, use the Glydea steps.
- For speed, press and hold Open and my together until the drapery moves.
- Press Open for faster or Close for slower: 12.5 (default), 15, 17.5 or 20 cm/s.
- Press and hold my until the drapery moves. The speed is saved.
Irismo 45 light: yellow for Touch Motion (fast blinking high, slow blinking low, steady off); green and red alternating for speed.
First setup (RTS versions)
- Pull the drapery by hand to the middle of the track.
- Power this motor only: plug in the Irismo 35's power supply, or twist the Irismo 45's battery pack on until it clicks. Irismo 45: one beep with blinking green means ready; blinking red means charge first.
- Follow steps 3 to 6 of Glydea first setup.
Irismo 35 DCT: the first Open or Close records the end stops; to reverse direction, move the drapery away from the ends, hold Open, Stop and Close and let go as soon as it moves once (holding on to three moves erases everything), then hold Stop until it moves.
Erase the remotes or reset the motor
- Irismo 35 RTS: hold a pin in the PROG hole. Release at two moves to erase the remotes (end stops and "my" stay), at three to erase everything.
- Irismo 35 DCT or RTS: hold Open, Stop and Close on the DCT setting tool until three moves: everything is erased.
- Irismo 45 WireFree: hold the LED button; two moves erase the remotes, three erase everything.
Somfy's owner instructions send you to a professional to replace a lost or broken remote on these motors.
Charge the Irismo 45 WireFree battery
- Plug Somfy's charger into the bottom of the battery pack (or its top, if the pack is off the motor). Its light is red while charging; the motor cannot run.
- When the light turns green, unplug the charger.
| Motor signal | Meaning |
|---|---|
| One beep and blinking red when the pack is fitted | Battery weak: charge it |
| A beep before and after each run | Battery low: charge it |
| One beep and fast red blinking | No battery charge: charge it |
Charging works best at 0 to 40 °C; Somfy suggests charging before first use.
RS485 (SDN) modules
What it takes: the RS485 Module for Drapery Motors plugs into the Irismo 35's RJ12 socket (not for Glydea ULTRA motors). It reports where the drapery should be, not where a hand left it.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Careful: use only Somfy's power supply or charger. Do not charge the battery during maintenance nearby, such as window cleaning; never open the pack or expose it to shocks, liquids or fire.
Troubleshooting: Irismo
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The drapery does not move | Wiring incorrect (35) or battery pack weak (45) | Reconnect the power supply, or charge the pack |

Somfy tilt, cord-lift and top-down bottom-up motors
Models: Tilt 50 WireFree Through-Shaft RTS and Zigbee; Cord Lift WireFree TLW25 RTS and TLW25 Zigbee; Cord Lift WireFree CL32 RTS; Cord Lift WireFree TLV25 Zigbee; Top-down Bottom-up 25 and 45 WireFree Zigbee; Clever Tilt Blind Motorization Kit.
The Tilt 50 tilts venetian blind slats; the cord-lift motors raise and lower cellular, pleated and Roman shades. RTS versions answer any RTS remote; Zigbee versions work like the Zigbee motors above. This guide gives no steps for the top-down bottom-up motors, the TLV25 or the Clever Tilt kit (see the end of this section).
How to tell you have one: the Tilt 50 has its programming button on top (Zigbee version: a light beside the printed "PROG"); the TLW25 (a 24 mm tube) and the box-shaped CL32 have it on the motor head (TLW25 Zigbee: next to the cable exit).
You need: a charged 12 V pack or power supply, the right remote, and the motor's antenna wire (Tilt 50 RTS, TLW25 RTS) or a paper clip (CL32) for its button.
Set up an RTS blind motor (Tilt 50, TLW25, CL32)
- Power only this motor, then hold UP and DOWN until the blind jogs.
- Press UP; if it goes the wrong way, hold my until it jogs.
- With DOWN, go to the bottom position (Tilt 50: the lower slat position); hold my and UP until it starts up, then release.
- Stop it at the top with my; hold my and DOWN until it starts down, then release.
- When it stops at the bottom, hold my until it jogs: limits saved.
- Press PROG on the back of the remote. The blind jogs: paired.
Limits can be set in either order. If power is cut before step 6, the limits stay: redo step 1, then step 6.
Remotes and "my" (RTS)
Use the general steps to add a remote, remove one and set "my", holding my until the blind jogs.
- No working remote: hold the motor's programming button until the blind jogs once, then let go; a second jog erases every remote, a third erases everything. Then briefly press PROG on the new remote.
- Tilt 50 RTS and TLW25 RTS (tilting mode by default): my goes to the bottom limit first, then to "my"; to save a slat angle, start there and tilt with UP.
Fine-tune a limit (RTS)
- Send the blind to the limit to change.
- Hold UP and DOWN until it jogs.
- Move it to the new position.
- Hold my until it jogs. The new limit is saved.
Reset an RTS blind motor
- Hold the motor's programming button (top of the Tilt 50 RTS casing; motor head on the TLW25 RTS and CL32).
- Release at 2 jogs to erase only the remotes, or at 3 to erase everything; after a full reset, set it up again.
Tilt 50 Zigbee and TLW25 Zigbee
Plug in the battery to wake the motor, then use the Ysia setup and other Zigbee steps above. On the Tilt 50 Zigbee the limits are slat positions, and my goes to the bottom limit first.
Charge the battery pack
- Li-ion pack #9021217: charger #9025166; its light is red while charging, green when full.
- USB-C pack #9028930: USB-C charger #9028923, which flashes green, then stays green when full; the internal headrail battery #9029224 uses the same charger.
- Recharge about once a year (top-down bottom-up motors: twice). Low-battery signs: on the TLW25 Zigbee, the motor light blinks red 3 times when you press a paired remote's button; with the Li-ion pack, a motor that has a light on its head blinks it red slowly; with the USB-C pack, the blind starts late and the light blinks red twice. On the TLW25 Zigbee, a red light that blinks while the blind is blocked means an obstacle: remove it.
Top-down Bottom-up 25 and 45 WireFree Zigbee
Fits HT Window (TDBU 25 only), Turnils and Coulisse headrails; internal headrail battery, USB-C pack or 12 V plug-in supply; controlled by the Ysia 5 TDBU Zigbee or a TaHoma switch. This guide gives no steps for pairing, limits or reset on these motors.

Somfy Maestria RTS motors for exterior screens
Models: Maestria RTS 510A2, 525A2, 535A2 and 550R2.
Maestria 50 RTS motors are 120 V motors with electronic limits for exterior solar screens, controlled by a Somfy RTS remote. They ship with no limits or remote; first setup is installer work. Afterwards you can add or remove remotes, fine-tune limits and adjust obstacle detection.
How to tell you have one: a 50 mm motor with a star head, on 120 V AC, hardwired or plug-in.
You need: an RTS remote with UP, MY (MY/STOP), DOWN and a PROG button on the back, a paper clip to press it, and access to the screen's power.
First setup and the ways to set limits
What it takes: programming mode ends after 2 minutes without a command.
- Power this motor; disconnect every other screen.
- Briefly press UP and DOWN together. The screen jogs (a brief up-and-down movement): programming mode.
- Press DOWN. If the screen goes up, press and hold MY until it jogs: the direction is reversed.
- Set the limits by one of the methods below.
- Briefly press PROG on the back of the remote. The screen jogs: paired, in user mode.
- Automatic (screens with a hard stop): from halfway, briefly press UP and DOWN (jog), press DOWN and let the screen find the bottom, then press MY until it jogs.
- Semi-automatic (hard stop; you set the bottom): at the bottom, press MY and UP, stop with MY, then press MY until it jogs.
- Manual (any screen): at the top, press MY and DOWN; stop at the bottom, adjust with UP or DOWN, press MY and UP, then hold MY until it jogs.
- Lock systems (automatic catch at the bottom): start with UP and DOWN held 5 seconds, then set the catch's entrance and exit points.
After automatic or semi-automatic setup, the motor learns the top limit in its first 4 cycles. If automatic setup cannot find the bottom, use semi-automatic.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Add or remove a remote
- On a remote that already works the screen, press and hold PROG for about 3 seconds until the screen jogs.
- On the remote to add, briefly press PROG. The screen jogs: added.
To remove a remote, start step 1 with a different remote than the one you are deleting, then do step 2 with the remote you want deleted.
Fine-tune where the screen stops
- Send the screen to the limit you want to change with UP or DOWN.
- Press and hold UP and DOWN together until the screen jogs.
- Move the screen to the new position with UP or DOWN.
- Press and hold MY/STOP until the screen jogs. The new limit is saved.
Make obstacle detection more sensitive, or turn it off
Obstacle detection works as the screen goes down. Press each button within 2 seconds of the last, or the setting ends.
- Move the screen halfway.
- Briefly press MY and UP together, then press and hold them until the screen jogs.
- Briefly press UP twice to turn detection off, or DOWN twice for more sensitivity. A slow, long jog confirms; a short jog means you reached the default: press the same button again.
- Press and hold MY/STOP until the screen jogs to save.
Reset the motor to factory mode
- Disconnect any other screen on the same circuit.
- Cut the power to this motor for 2 seconds.
- Restore the power and leave it on for 8 to 10 seconds.
- Cut the power again for 2 seconds.
- Restore the power. The screen jogs.
- Press and hold PROG on the back of the remote. The screen jogs after about 2 seconds; keep holding until it jogs again. The motor is reset.
Factory mode means no limits and no remotes: set it up again.
Careful: program with only this motor powered; if it is hardwired and cannot be disconnected, contact an electrician. If the remote's direction is set wrong, Eolis or Soliris RTS sensors will not work as intended, and the screen could be damaged or someone injured.
Troubleshooting: Maestria
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The motor leaves programming mode | No command for 2 minutes | Start again from the first step |
| Short jog back to user mode during the obstacle setting | A press came over 2 seconds after the last | Start the obstacle setting again |
| An Eolis or Soliris sensor does not work as intended | Remote direction not programmed correctly | Check that DOWN lowers the screen; the direction is set in step 3 of first setup |

Somfy switch-wired motors: Sonesse, LT50 and Roll Up
Models: Sonesse ULTRA 50 506A2 (switch-wired, +RH); Sonesse 40 WT 404S2 / 406A2 / 409R2; Sonesse 50 506S2 / 510S2 (switch-wired, PA, RH); LT50 / LT60 wired (506S2 ... 6100R2 SJTW, 412R2); Roll Up Wired R28.
No radio and no pairing: the wall switch powers the motor's up or down wire, and the motor stops at its limits, the top and bottom stopping points. Somfy says a professional installs them and sets the limits.
How to tell you have one: the 120 V Sonesse and LT50 models have a four-wire power cable: white neutral, red and black for the two directions, green ground. The Roll Up Wired R28 instructions (Roll Up 28 WT) describe a 24 V DC motor with a two-wire cable.
You need: one wall switch per motor; Somfy says not to wire motors in parallel.
Who sets the limits, and how
The installer runs the shade to each limit, then sets it on the motor head: white and yellow buttons under a protective housing (Sonesse ULTRA 50), two adjustment screws (Sonesse 40 WT) or two slide switches (Roll Up Wired R28).
For the Sonesse 50 and LT50, Somfy's databook gives the limit switch type (rapid or progressive adjustment) but no setting steps; none are published here for the LT60 either.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Use the wall switch
- Briefly press UP or DOWN. The shade runs to its top or bottom limit and stops.
- To stop it on the way, press STOP.
Careful: switch the power off before touching any wiring. On the Sonesse ULTRA 50, do not cut the power for more than a week, or the limits can drift.
Troubleshooting: switch-wired motors
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Does not move | Thermal protection: the motor overheated | Wait for it to cool; Somfy says a normal installation should not trigger this, so have the installation checked. |
| Does not move | Wiring incorrect, or switch not compatible | Have the wiring and switch checked. |
| Stops too soon or too late; a Roll Up does not move | Limits drifted, badly adjusted, or set at the same place | Have the limits readjusted. |

Somfy Sonesse 30 DCT dry-contact motors
Models: 1241146 Sonesse 30 DCT 24V DC; accessory 9014599 Limit Setting Tool.
The Sonesse 30 DCT is a 24 V dry-contact motor: its control wires go to a plain switch contact, never to power. You can set a favorite ("my") position and the speed; the limits need Somfy's Limit Setting Tool.
How to tell you have one: two cables, 2-wire power (red +, black -) and 4-wire control (white/blue Up, blue Stop, white/orange Down, orange common), plus a status light and a programming button on the head.
You need: a dry-contact control such as the Sonesse 30 DCT wall switch (1800219). Somfy calls the stop button Stop, my or my/Stop.
Set the limits (installer, Limit Setting Tool)
What it takes: the Limit Setting Tool on the control cable; each step is confirmed by 5 green blinks.
- Press Up. If the shade goes down, hold Stop until it moves up and down: direction reversed.
- Hold Up to the top position, then press Stop and Down together and release when the shade moves: top stored.
- Press Stop at the bottom position, then press Stop and Up together and release when the shade moves: bottom stored; it returns to the top.
- Hold Stop until the shade briefly moves up and down: limits saved.
Older motors (2008 instructions) use different button combinations.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Set, use or delete the "my" position
- Move the shade where you want it.
- Press and hold my until the shade briefly moves up and down (5 green blinks): saved. Only one my position is kept.
A brief press on my stops a moving shade or sends it to the my position. To delete it, send the shade there, then hold my until it briefly moves up and down.
Change the speed
- Away from the limits, hold Up, my/Stop and Down together until the shade briefly moves up and down once; it then cycles up and down.
- Hold Up (faster) or Down (slower) until it briefly moves up and down; repeat as needed.
- Hold my/Stop until it briefly moves up and down and the green light blinks 5 times: saved.
Two minutes without a command cancels the adjustment.
Reset to factory settings
- Hold the programming button on the motor head, or Up, Stop and Down together, until the shade briefly moves up and down 3 times.
- The green light blinks 5 times, then the orange light stays on: all settings are erased.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Careful: never put power on the control cable. Holding all three buttons starts speed adjustment at one brief up-and-down and a reset at three: count them. After a reset, the limits need the Limit Setting Tool again.
Troubleshooting: Sonesse 30 DCT
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Orange light steady, shade does not work | Not set | Have the limits set (installer). |
| Red light on, then off | Thermal protection | Wait for the motor to cool down. |
| Red light steady | An obstacle blocks the shade | Remove the obstacle. |
| Red light blinks twice, repeatedly | Outside its limits | Have the limits set (installer). |
| Stops too soon or too late | Limits slipped or badly adjusted, or the shade is too heavy | Have the limits readjusted and the shade checked (installer). |

Somfy SDN (RS485) digital network motors
Models: 1241144 Sonesse 30 RS485 24V DC; Sonesse 40 RS485 404S2 / 406A2 / 409R2; Sonesse 50 506S2 / 510S2 RS485; LT50 515S2 / 535A2 RS485; Sonesse ULTRA 50 506A2 RS485 and 504 A8 DC RS485; Roll Up 30 Short RS485 24V DC.
SDN, the Somfy Digital Network, links motors, keypads and control systems on a wired RS485 data network. Each motor has a factory-set address and reports its position; shades run singly or in groups, with up to 16 preset positions. Setup is installer work.
How to tell you have one: a Weidmüller power-and-data pigtail (Sonesse 30, Roll Up 30), an RJ45 data cable (Sonesse 40) or an RJ9 data socket (Sonesse 50, LT50, ULTRA 50 on 120 V). Sonesse 30, Sonesse 40 and Roll Up 30: a light and a PROG button on the head; ULTRA 50 DC: three head buttons.
You need: DecoFlex SDN keypads, RTS remotes through an RTS Receiver for SDN V2, or the home or building system your installer connected.
What it takes to set up SDN motors
- RS485 Setting Tool (9017142): a battery-powered tool for one motor at a time. It reads the node ID (the motor's network address) and sets direction, limits, presets 1 to 16 and factory reset. Weidmüller motors need cable 9019873; the Sonesse 40, tool version 9017142C.
- Set pro by Somfy: software that scans the bus, flags motors without limits, sets limits, presets, groups, direction, speed and locks, and programs DecoFlex SDN keypads.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
Sonesse ULTRA 50 DC: limits from the head buttons
- Press Up and Down together: the shade moves up and down (setting mode).
- Press Up. If the shade goes down, hold Stop until it moves up and down: direction reversed.
- Hold Down to the bottom position, then press Up and Stop together until the shade moves: bottom stored.
- Hold Up to the top position, then press Down and Stop together until it moves: top stored.
- Hold Stop until the shade moves up and down and the light goes off: limits saved.
Factory mode: hold all three buttons until the shade moves up and down once (about 7 seconds).
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
The PROG button
On the Sonesse 30, Sonesse 40 and Roll Up 30, a short press (under 1.5 seconds) steps the shade through up, stop, down, stop. Hold until the first feedback (about 2 seconds) to post the node ID on the network, or until the third (about 12 seconds) to reset it to factory settings.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
What the lights mean (Sonesse 30, Sonesse 40, Roll Up 30)
| Light | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green, 2 seconds at power-up | Power on |
| Green, 5 blinks | Setting accepted |
| Green, on then off briefly | Bus communication |
| Orange, steady | Not set |
| Orange, 2 blinks | Node ID sent to the network |
| Red, steady | Obstacle detected |
| Red, on then off | Crown not turning, or thermal protection: let it cool; do not touch it, it can burn |
| Red, 2 blinks | Outside its limits |
| Red, 3 sets of 3 blinks | Setting impossible |
Careful: data pins Somfy marks "not connected" must stay free; connecting them can damage the motor. On the Sonesse ULTRA 50 RS485, do not cut the power for more than a week, or the limits can drift.
Troubleshooting: SDN motors
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|

Somfy PoE (Power over Ethernet) motors
Models: 1241147 Sonesse 30 PoE; Sonesse 40 PoE at 2/25, bt 4/25, bt 6/25; Roll Up 30 Short PoE 48V DC.
PoE (Power over Ethernet) motors take power and data from one network cable plugged into a PoE switch; each motor has its own IP address, web page and PIN. Home and building systems control them through Somfy's APIs. Setup is installer work.
How to tell you have one: a short RJ45 network pigtail (19 cm) with a shielded coupler, a light and a programming button on the head, and labels with the hostname and a four-digit PIN.
You need: a PoE switch, IEEE 802.3at (PoE+) or higher (802.3bt for the Sonesse 40 PoE 4 Nm and 6 Nm); a router acting as DHCP server; a web browser, or a Windows PC with Somfy's PoE Config Tool.
First power-up and setup (installer)
What it takes: plug the motor into the PoE switch. Log in from a browser at https:// plus the motor's IP address or label hostname, using the PIN. The web page sets rotation, end limits, up to 16 presets and 16 group addresses, and speed; the motor jogs (a brief up-and-down move) to confirm a reversed direction and each saved limit. For many motors, Somfy's PoE Config Tool discovers them, shares one security key and copies settings between identical shades. The Sonesse 40 PoE needs LLDP disabled on the switch.
With "Hold to Move" off, the motor keeps moving until you press STOP.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
PROG button and the two reset levels
- Limits and presets only: on the motor's Home page, select "Reset end limits and preset positions", then "Confirm". Other settings stay.
- Factory default: select "Set factory default", then "Confirm". All settings and the copied security key are removed; the motor jogs once.
On the motor, a short press on PROG steps the shade through up, stop, down, stop. Holding it to the first jog (about 2 seconds) sends a DHCP request, to the second (about 7 seconds) forces DHCP addressing, and to the third (about 12 seconds) resets it to factory mode.
Installer workWe do this at installation and on service calls.
What the lights mean
| Light | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green, 2 seconds | Power-up |
| Green, blinking | Bus communication |
| Orange, steady | Limits not set |
| Orange, 2 blinks | Sending its IP address to the network |
| Red, steady | Obstacle detected |
| Red, blinking about once a second | Thermal protection: wait a few minutes; do not touch the hot motor |
| Red, 2 blinks | Outside its limits |
| Red, 3 sets of 3 blinks | Setting impossible |
| Red, fast blinking | Not connected to the network, no IP address |
| Off | Limits set, motor idle |
Careful: keep the motor information labels. Somfy says not to discard them, and the PIN on them is needed to log in.
Troubleshooting: PoE motors
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Does not work | Wiring incorrect, or the wrong extension cable | Have the wiring checked; Somfy calls for Cat 5e cable at minimum. |
| The login screen comes back | Security timeout | Enter the PIN again. |
| Config Tool shows "Warning: No Key" | Not stated by Somfy | Close and reopen the tool and run a new discovery. |

When to call us instead
Some steps in these guides are installer work: wired networks, control-system programming and anything that means opening a motor or its wiring. We program every motor we install and document the setup, and we service and reprogram motorized systems, including ones we did not install.
Frequently asked
Why does my Somfy shade only move while I hold the button?
If a brief press does nothing and the shade moves only while you hold UP or DOWN, setup was not finished and the motor is still in programming mode; radio reception is reduced in that mode, so stand close. A new or fully reset RTS motor does not move at all until you press UP and DOWN together on a control. On venetian blinds and other motors set to tilting mode, holding UP or DOWN tilts the slats and a press shorter than half a second sends the blind to its limit: that is normal.
Can I reset a Somfy WireFree motor by unplugging it?
Somfy resets WireFree motors with the programming button on the motor head, not by cutting the power. On a WireFree RTS motor, hold it with a paper clip until the shade jogs 3 times to erase all settings, or release after the second jog to erase only the paired remotes. On a WireFree Zigbee motor, hold it until the light blinks amber and the shade jogs 3 times, which erases everything. After a full reset, set the limits and pair a remote again.
Can one Somfy remote control several shades?
Yes. Pair the same remote, or one channel of a multi-channel remote, to each motor, and that channel runs them together as a group. Channels can mix single shades and groups, for example channels 1 and 2 for single shades and channel 5 for all of them.
My Somfy remote stopped working. What should I check?
Check the remote's battery first: with a good battery, its light flashes when you press a button. On a multi-channel remote, make sure the right channel is selected, and check that the remote is still paired to the motor. On a WireFree RTS motor, a red light blinking 5 times when you press a button means the motor battery is low; on a WireFree Zigbee motor with a built-in battery it blinks 3 times, and with the USB-C battery pack the shade starts late and the light blinks red twice. After long continuous use, let the motor cool down.
Can I use Somfy Zigbee shades without a hub?
Yes. Ysia Zigbee remotes pair directly to the motors and run them with no hub, and a TaHoma switch can be added later for the app. The remote and the motor talk both ways, so the remote's light confirms each setting. Advanced settings such as speed and tilting travel need the TaHoma pro app, which installers use.
Can I adjust the limits on a wired Somfy motor myself?
Somfy writes its switch-wired motor instructions for professional installers. The limits are set on the motor head (buttons on the Sonesse ULTRA 50, screws on the Sonesse 40 WT, slide switches on the Roll Up Wired R28), and Somfy says to switch the power off before any wiring work. If the shade stops too soon or too late, have the limits readjusted.
Why does a new Somfy drapery motor run to both ends by itself?
Glydea ULTRA and Irismo drapery motors learn their end stops automatically: at the first Open or Close command during setup, the motor runs to record the stops at each end of the track. To fine-tune an end stop later with an RTS remote, send the drapery to that end, hold Open and Close until it jogs, move it, then hold my until it jogs. On DCT versions, hold Open, Stop and Close instead and let go as soon as the drapery moves once, move it, then hold Stop to save.
What is Somfy SDN?
SDN, the Somfy Digital Network, links Somfy motors, keypads and control systems on a wired RS485 data network. Each motor has a unique address set at the factory and reports its position, so shades run singly or in groups with up to 16 preset positions. The installer sets limits and presets with Somfy's RS485 Setting Tool or Set pro software, and group addresses with Set pro.
